your video made me pledge this scanner, so now it's your fault 😂. The 35% off is gone, I took the 33% one. Me as well! I am in contact with Revopoint every day and am waiting for a stable release of Revoscan before any content is filmed. I also have an old 7th gen i7 laptop. 10th gen i7 desktop and a 13th gen i7 laptop on the way to test how it works on different machines. They haven't released specs for the system publicly but laser scanners need an upgraded system for sure so something to keep in mind! It is looking like my review won't be out until the 22nd at the earliest unfortunately.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign yes indeed .... intel core i9 !! and it might not be clear for the average user what the CPU is in charge of and what the GPU would bring. it is better to have lots of RAM or is it a marginal gain, etc. Also what exactly would lower specs affect ? Is it frame rate ? tracking ? what else ?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
@@christophec.482 Yeah for sure. I ordered an i7 laptop with the rtx3500 just to test this out... So there are a lot of factors and as the revoscan software evolves for the MetroX we will know more. Historically RevoScan hasn't utilized the GPU so for them to require specific GPU specs makes me think the new version is trying to optimize that. Just a few general points... RAM - This is a big factor in how many points/frames you can capture. Those running lower spec processors and low ram will see slow capture performance BUT likely run into a RAM limit. I talked about this in the Miraco Plus video how the 16gb Miraco will get 4k frames of color and 5k frames of non color. 32gb will get 8k color and 10k non color frames. Expect similar results on a PC/Laptop with the Caveat that the laser scanner will be collecting more raw data... CPU speed - Most applications are still not great at multi threading, so tons of cores don't really help because it can't parallel process the capture of data sadly. So higher speed CPU is key. Most newer CPUs are boosting in the mid 5ghz range while 15 years ago i had to have a liquid cooled overclocked expensive computer just to cross the 4ghz range. That said the CPU will be a limiter in your framerate of capture. GPU - as stated right now this does little to nothing for us with Revoscan but hoping that will change with the specs for the MetroX. Keep in mind that vRAM on a Gcard will capitalize the physical ram on your computer. So knowing that ram is a limiter to captured data, if you get a 16gb vRam graphics card and only have 32gb ram on your system, as soon as Revoscan is able to use the GPU for repetative tasks like smoothing, fusion, and overlap detection, expect to need to double your RAM requirements as you might start to hit limits. IF the metroX takes off and gets more attention/development I would not be surprised if 64 or 128gb RAM would be the goTo spec and a Gcard with 12 or 16gb vRam. The system i purchased didn't have a configuration option with my limited timeframe so it has 12gb vram on the card and the system only 32gb ram. So i would expect to hit that limit quick and need to upgrade ram.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thanks for the detailed and thorough feedback. I think it will be worth showing the differences in your video. I did not know those software do not multithreaded much on multiple cores and do not process tasks on the GPU. For the CPU, if you want a high frequency, you automatically have many cores ... so there is not much playing there. For the GPU, my guess is it's mostly for the visual interface, when moving the model around once it's captured. But yes, let's hope those algorithm are pushed towards multithreading and GPU usage .... Good luck with the next video !

The only thing I have funded on kickstarter was a 5x5x5in 3d printer many years ago :) One thing that is different with Revopoint as they have done this with several scanners, is that they have developed the hardware and software already. So really for them i think its an interest thing to see how many units to produce(my guess there). But even at $1000 for a laser scanner its a good deal.

Yeah the Mini2 is a great unit, but the retail on the mini2 is the same as the kickstarter price for this unit. The laser scanner only has a single set of depth cameras but should pick up small details much better than a pure IR structured light unit. What is minimum scan volume on the scanner. The second question is this a laser scanner version of mini/pop/range or is the scan volume like the Miraco?
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
Minimum scan volume is 10mm cube. max is 1m cube. The close range is 200mm and the far range is 400mm. The scanner is not just a laser version of the others BUT its full field mode is blue structured light like the Mini2. In Full field mode you can think of it a bit like a mini for slightly larger objects with slightly better precision and accuracy. The parallel and cross laser modes are unique to this scanner.
@byronwilliams65322 ай бұрын
@ Thanks you for this information. At this time a have both range scanners for large items. Since I basically scan people and midsize to large objects. I bought a Cr ferret, prior to the Ranges due my lack of knowledge of scanning with the Pop2 which was not for large objects. Ferret was supposed to be a do all scanner, but can’t do small or large object only medium with any type of quality. Even though I got burn with Creality’s Ferret, I’m torn between the Otter. Revopoint’s Miraco, the Mini and the Metro X. Which I am aware is still in In its Kickstarter stage. Other than dark objects, I am highly impressed with my ranges and the ever evolving Revo 5.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
@@byronwilliams6532 The otter is impressive on scanning black objects. I will say the MetroX is not for scanning people. I suppose you could maybe do that on full field mode but because of the lasers I would say don't plan on scanning people with it. The Miraco is a wonderul scanner and probably my favorite still. Its portability really is handy. If i need to scan something that is usually the first scanner i grab. I have a miraco, inspire, mini2, otter, ferret, and this metroX. Only the miraco is truly wireless. Creality offers scanning to a smart phone or with wifi6 bridge but the Miraco can capture and process without having to stack all the devices together which is a big bonus. The downside to the miraco is that its IR structured light, not blue like the Otter or the MetroX full field mode. Blue structure is really the key for those shiny objects. All scanners do best when the surface is right like with scan spray, but the blue structure of the metroX, mini2, and otter are the way to capture those shiny parts. Global marker tracking is also something that is new on the miraco, the metroX and i believe some of the others from Revopoint. Basically you scan the markers first, then scan your object with the markers preloaded. This greatly speeds up the scan and accuracy and is a very nice addition.

There have been some software delays.... When the scanners went out to the affiliates the first ask was an unboxing video and was supposed to be quickly followed up by scanning reviews. Well as you saw there are unboxing vids but no scanning ones other than from official Revopoint channels. They learned their lesson from the Miraco release where they had pushed software too quick and I think when they sent out the software to a few key people they had more feedback to address than planned. I have been personally providing feedback on their software requirements. They were wanting 13th gen i7 as the minimum spec, but for a $700-$1000 scanner you aren't going to have people rushing out to buy $3500 laptops (which i just did to test this out as mine was super old). So I know they have been working hard to get it more efficient on older systems. I don't think the GPU optimization is there yet but im told ill have a viable product tomorrow to test and hopefully that means i can record a review video with some real data for you all.

@@Gaston12345 Revopoint has been releasing a few "real time" videos with no edits showing the scanning process on a few objects. Videos are 30+ mins long and I believe do show the real thing. I have been providing feedback on the performance and software, but sadly I don't have a video yet. I have been testing it on many different types of objects on multiple computers and will get some content out as soon as I feel it is "complete". Right now the "Full Field" mode is the winner for me that uses the structured light and laser and can scan without markers. The parallel and cross laser lines both require a lot of markers currently and i think always will require markers as there is no feature tracking option. I think the GPU optimization is going to be key to making this thing a good deal. Right now its scanning at 45fps in laser mode without the GPU utilization. FWIW like with all my videos on revopoint scanners and other scanners, Software is the big key to all of this. I think the hardware stuff they have sorted as I think they have been working on the laser scanner for more than a year. It will really come down to the user experience and I know they are working hard and fast on it....
@steve644642 ай бұрын
Do you have any performance footage yet or specification on the working distance? apparently there's 16 days left in the kickstarter and i need to make a decision somehow.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
The scanning distance is between 200 and 400mm in Full Field and cross line laser mode. In parallel line mode its between 250 and 350mm so a bit tighter. Turntable mode is the only one that allows for RGB color capture and the turntable is connected via BT. In turntable mode it does single shot, rotates, then again and so on. The metroX has global marker alignment and that works way better to pre-capture the markers before laser scanning. both laser modes require markers and a lot of them currently, but they are optimizing it to need fewer markers I am told. You can see in the revo videos the number of markers they use. The Full Field which has the structured light projector and the lasers for me so far is the best mode. no markers required and it seems to do a good job. Right now the physical product works and I have been scanning with it, but they are constantly optimizing and updating revoscan to make it better. Revopoint has been releasing realtime videos of them scanning with no edits and thats as good as it gets at the moment for content, because they have the newest version of Revoscan to work with while us Affiliates aren't on the same beta version. I am keeping an eye on the timeline on when users can pull their funding from Kickstarter and they are well aware of that too. Honestly the biggest issue is that the software keeps getting updates so if i made a video with any of the recordings from last week they show it slower than say the software they sent over today. I know its not a great answer but hopefully there is some comfort in knowing they are working very hard to improve the experience. I haven't been keeping track of other affiliates to see if anyone has released any videos with the MetroX yet, but I would venture they are in a similar boat. We record, play with the scanner, give some feedback, and in a day or so whatever feedback we provide is being worked on and improved, rinse repeat. There was a little of this with the Miraco, but not like this. Revopoint is putting in a lot of effort (it seems to me) and I am hopeful it will payoff, but also am keenly aware that people are waiting and wanting to know how the thing works from someone other than Revopoint directly. Hope that helps.

@@LearnEverythingAboutDesign Thanks for the clarification , Im just trying to get a idea on how close it can capture tiny detail and how it would compare to the mini2 scanner.
@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
@@steve64464 So Full Field mode is blue structured light like the mini2, but the metroX has a wider range it can scan. 200-400mm . I think the mini 2 is 120-250mm. So you can be a bit further back from what you are scanning which helps get details on bigger objects. One thing right now is that the metroX color capture is only available on turntable mode while the mini2 that isn't true. Tehcnically the single frame precision on the MetroX is .01mm while the mini2 is .02mm. Not that big of a difference and those are ideal numbers. So theoretically it could replace the mini2. not sure its a good companion scanner as they do overlap.

@LearnEverythingAboutDesign2 ай бұрын
yeah.... so as an affiliate there are certain requests like "unboxing video". and Originally the timeline of the unboxing and the scanner videos were together, but there were some delays in the Software. When revopoint launched the Miraco they pushed out scanners quickly and I think they got some initial negative feedback. I personally had 4 different Miracos and firmware changed with the most current Plus model being the best. I think they learned from that and had some problems they wanted to solve. For example I was told the min requirement was a 13th gen i7 processor. And i said that really wasn't going to work well at the price point from my perspective. They have kept working and I think have it running well on 10th gen i7 processors which is 3 or 4 years old. There are certainly going to be higher requirements for this scanner than the old and they are trying to get it right before the reviews go out. timing sucks on this but i think testing the software on their end vs letting people test it on many different systems opened up more problems that needed to be addressed.

Oh No! When you set it to turntable mode, does the turntable just spin? It should move whatever degree you set, stop and take a single frame shot. Then move again, then another and so on.
