I followed your steps last night and mini went from .09 to .04 accuracy and it was brand new out of the box. Thank you for this great step by step!

0.04 is great! do you have super sturdy hands or did you do something different with the set up? I think 0.05 is my PB at the minute. Glad it's helped you out.

@@tabletopscanman Just thinking, you could probably mount it with some elastic bands or velcro or tape 3d scanners, to the movable axis of a cnc machine or 3d printer for a type of most stablized method to achieving highest possible calibration. I have a neuromuscular challenge that feels like a mix of parkinsons and MS that can sometimes spike in realtime during actuation of the basil ganglia. I try to consider solutions from this perspective, if a disability can result in achieving ability. I scored a Revopoint Miraco and am enjoying its scanning, though am still learning about the various forms of procedure, syntax and perspectives shared open source from other people who have experience. This helps me to learn without missing the points made in trying to interpret a user manual that can sometimes go over the dyslexic brain left to wonder in fathomable mysteries in order to hopefully achieve a accurate level of understanding core points of contention made by other people, sometimes spanning across different languages even. Cheers and stay creative.

Hello, I received my scanner yesterday I made several attempts to scan a bust, the scan looked pretty good, until I lost the tracking, which messed up my capture. I tested several light conditions, from very bright to even dark, played with the depth and brightness settings. Nothing works really I always end up with a loss of tracking that makes my work unrecoverable. It's very frustrating when you feel like it's starting out great, then a tracking error destroys everything. Even when it finds its track back, it always ends up with big offsets. I think it's a good idea to help, but would you have any solutions to make my scans always successful ? I mainly scan small mechanical parts for reverse engineering, as well as more organic sculptures, and retopo for jewelry. And for the moment I have to say that Polycam on my phone gives me results that I can use while this 800 euros scanner is not useful for me for the moment, even if I feel the potential in it. Thanks in advance for your advices.

I wonder if for lost tracking concerns, this might be improved away from by trying to use a faster processor to handle the number crunching bath of 0's and 1's in geometric depth field challenged applications such as 3d scanning seems to present. I have a different 3d scanner than this one mentioned in the presentation, mine being the revopoint miraco for short and long range uses, it offers the ability to direct cable connect to any computer for use during the scanning process and even for after the scanning process to mesh the various scans and others into a hopefully desired result. This scanner treats all dark enough surfaces as antimatter, portholes across the universe of which requires a entire coating of flour or baby powder not made from the chelation of actual babies being milled like the wheat germ flour was, maybe a washable waterpaint sprayed with a mist and dried into place prior to scanning. Also, the utmost importance of having prior approval before simply going ahead and scanning things such as busts that are not your own, the scanning attempts would greatly improve, such attempts should only be consentual.

This will help me, as I have never done this before. What I was worried about is my calibration card is just that - card, the creaform ones were on glass so I wonder whether mounting this to a flat pate might help as it is by nature flexible? Would you get better results with a tripod dya think ? Wonder if there is a league table for calibration scores 😆 Would like to see the difference in a scan between a calibrated and un-calibrated model - as I say i've never given this a go.

Hope it helps dude! I think the card is on thick enough stock that deformation might not be an issue. Moisture ingress over time might be a problem though but maybe they plan to ship upgraded ones with the actual release of the software. Its the first of this kind I have seen , I've played with a GOM scanner in the past that had perfectly spherical objects transported in military grade cases for calibration so these are a bit wafty in comparison! I was kind of hoping the comment section here would be full of "those are rookie numbers" memes with people boasting about how they got better than I did. I honestly think setting up the mini on a tripod and moving the card is the way forwards but you run into another issue where its so still you don't get enough time to align it.🤷‍♂️ calibrated scanner vs uncalibrated scanner you say? I feel a team up coming on!!!!!

Can't you just do this right within the revo scan app? Is there something different about going to a website and downloading calibration nonsense?

would it not be simpler to attach it to some sort of stand at the prescribed distance (~15cm) and move the calibration target below on the table ?

Yes I believe it would! I toyed with the idea of printing a different tripod option just for this.

will this help the tracking any? i've yet to make a successful scan with the mini

I would try it but not expect much. What are you scanning? Try scanning in the good range rather than excellent I find it does just as well.

Would you recommend a calibration run like this if the scanner is giving a bumpy point cloud for smooth objects? Just got my scanner yesterday and feel something may be off!

You can run an accuracy check as part of the calibration software that will let you know if it needs it or not. Run it 3 times and take an average to see if it's required. Surface noise has loads of other possibilities though, try limiting external light sources, keeping your depth gain as low as possible and meshing at a higher value.
