Almost all people doing bike reviews are getting sponsored. Those that dont get sponsored do not want to say anything negative that would frighten potential future sponsors. Thus everything most reviewers say must be positive. When you watch a bike review know that at some level you are getting gas lighted. I watch alot of reviews but I am extremely cynical of what they say. I usually dont listen to what they are saying because its mostly b.s. but instead watch them to really check out the bike and build a conclusion based off of my own experience and knowledge.

As a daily rider I would suggest to consider maintenance, reliability and long term dependency. Definitely there are certain brands that consider these

Seem to remember him addressing this once and stating that it's not feasible to review such things in the time they have the bikes. I can see that point, but also very much see yours. Certainly when you or I, as daily riders, shop for motorcycles this is something we consider. Not tryna daily ride an Italian without at least one backup bike, amirite? Turns out I do have a backup bike. A Honda. And what is it currently backing up? Another Honda. I like riding; (not wrenching.)

@@paulburgess3088 Ahhh the good old high spec R1100 RS, no ride by wire, no ABS, no ride modes, no phone connectivity, no sat.nav, no fully adjustable suspension, and yet +500lb kerb weight. I totally see that your relic of a bike compares with the 2025 GS 1300...... and 280.000km in 32 yrs is only about 5.500 MLS a year - so no wonder nothing goes wrong.

And those 280,000km were ridden in NZ South Island not American freeways. A straight road here is about 5km long (tongue in cheek), so the engine, suspension and gearbox get plenty of work.

My vote is for the V100. Guzzi is pretty aggressive on rebates, etc. The MSRP always feels like a suggestion. I got my white base for around 13 otd. After a proper windscreen, heated grips, etc. I'm closer to 14 but it's a perfect commuter bike imo.

It’s a sexy bike for sure. I’d quite like to see a ’basso’ version of it sans active aero at a slightly lower price point. I mean, there’s the Stelvio (which I’d love to see on DR) but I’d still like to see the V100 get a few more SKUs (like the V85TT/Strada).

It’s a great bike with too many issues for 2024. I did a demo ride- the bikes were leaking oil and coolant and the transmission didn’t shift properly. Beautiful bike, lovely engine though.

I owned an "adventure" bike for a decade. It drained my desire to ride. I sold it, bought an RnineT Pure, did a series of sensible mods and have ridden more and further in 6 months than I did in 6 years previously. Don't be a fashion victim, kids. Buy the bike that stirs desires, not what you "think" you should buy. While I love what Zak and Ari do, picking the R1300 as the "best" bike of the year is utterly inexplicable to me. Normal people can't afford it.

A Versys 650 “drained” your “desire to ride”. Fair enough. But does that really damn adventure bikes? I think not. There are plenty of more exciting and capable adventure bikes than the Kawi 650. And nobody riding a Versys 650 is a “fashion victim” 😂. The R1300GS may be utterly inexplicable to you, but Zack clearly and objectively articulated why it was the BEST of the year, covered the cost question, and spoke of other value conscious options in a very objective manner. What more could be asked? And there are plenty of “normal” people riding GS, SAS, Tigers and the like. Not like the RnineT is bargain basement my friend. The good thing is we have choice, and we all can pick what turns the crank.

Fortunately I can afford a r1300gs and got one this year (2024). I absolutely love it - been riding for 40 years and have owned various bikes and the gs is fantastic. Can’t wait for spring to roll around to start riding it again.

@@davidkendall1614 It absolutely did. It's anodyne and ugly and has carefully had any idea of "fun" engineered firmly out. Here in NZ the R1300GS is massively out of reach @$40k before options. For less than half the price of a new R1300, I've bought a 2 year old R nineT pure with 1800km on the clock and specced it to my liking. It's a dream compared to the Versys, and if I were to replace with a similar cost ADV bike I'm looking at V-Strom 800 DE which has been beaten so hard with the ugly stick, you can only feel sorry for it.

@ I rode the R1300GS around Europe this past summer. We had 8 bikes we swapped back and forth (the GS, Tiger 900 and 1200, Ducati DesertX and Multistrada V4S, BMW S1000XR, Suzuki GX-S1000GX, and KTM SA1290S). Like Zack in this review, the GS was the bike I kept returning to as the best daily ride all-rounder. Some of the others were better is certain areas, but in tight alpine switchbacks the GS is just so freakin’ balanced. That being said, I still find that I like my R1250GS even better, for comfort and looks, plus I think the clatter of the engine on the 1300 was less pleasant. But awesome motorcycle in either iteration. Enjoy!

@@JDWDMC 😁 Outrageously pricey here in Canada too. My perspective changed after a heart attack and emergency open heart surgery in 2020. Then I said “F-it” and bought a 2021 R1250GS in 2021. I never thought I would spend that amount on a bike. Previously it was all Japanese. Yamahas and Kawasakis. Mostly the latter…KLR650, Z750S, GTR1400 (Concours14 here in North America). But there are a lot of dirt roads in this part of Canada and I got tired of turning around on street bikes. GS fits the bill for me at present. I do love the styling of the RnineT and some of the new R12s. Enjoy brother. My real brother some months back floated the idea of renting some motorcycles in New Zealand in February…but that looonnnnng flight…

I had 890 SMT as a wild card in my choices for new bike and ended up buying it (partly thanks to daily rider review). After one season and couple thousand km, I love that bike and now I want to learn to wheelie and back it in, so thanks Zack :D

@@ganuvien I had it since June and made 8000 km on it. Before it was owned by dealership and it had 8k when I was buying it. Altogether the bike has 16k km and I had no issues. I also had the yearly service done on it few weeks back and nothing showed up. It is not super long period or mileage, but its all I can say. Personally I think the issues are blown out of proportions. It is true that there were/are issues with camshafts on certain models and it is also true that KTM has financial problems.

Not blown out of proportion. But it's not just cam shafts, which is the issue shown the most in forum posts and headlines. These platforms will have leaking coolant from weak hose clamps and warped thermostat housing. Oil leaking from the valve cover. Immobiliser issues, blinker and brake light issues. Transmission falling out of second gear if you kick the shift lever too quickly. And flame outs in stop and go traffic because of euro 5 fueling. Your dealer owned bike was probably a trade in from an owner who got his bike repaired for the fifth time and said that's enough. He went through the growing pains and QA/QC'd the bike for you!

ADV bikes are to motorcycles like SUVs are to automobiles. They are unnecessarily expensive, hardly anyone uses their full capabilities, and they all look the same. They're also becoming a self fulfilling prophecy in that they "sell" because that's all companies seem to sell anymore. But a great year as always content wise

One of the bikes that was long discontinued here, in the EU, but holds a soft spot in my memories, is the DR-Z400S/SM. Now that Suzuki decided to resurrect it, I'd like to see it in the Daily Rider for 2025. I've been waiting for a long time for this new iteration, but I also fear that it'll come short of many peoples' expectations, especially because it's still a 5 speed.

Congratulations on 100 episodes, and thank you for recapping 2024 and sharing some of the criteria used in the Leaderboard. Re ADV bikes on the top of the list, didn’t a Honda Transalp make it at or near the top for 2023? I believe that bike is around 11k out the door, which feels like a fair deal for what you’re getting relative to other ADVs. For 2025, newer subscribers like myself could benefit from a walkthrough of your process, the elements you cover on the ride and why. Very good video journalism. Many thanks!

I've been watching Daily Rider and RevZilla for a while now and it's really getting me into all kind of bikes I wouldn't have an interest by myself. Of course your choices are partial and personnal, but it always comes with the honesty of recognizing it. You and Ari are one of my favourite in the youtube motorbikes "game", you're real enthusiasts and share it perfectly and that's why you came this way up to 100 episodes and more to come. And this year you also participated in my reflexion to switch bike from a 2017 Triumph Street Triple 765 R to the KTM 890 SMT. The Triumph was a better bike in many ways but the SMT is a lot of fun for a fairly more comfortable bike. To me it's already a pricy bike but that's the one I wanted after a testing I did at a bike festival in my country. So I looked for an used one from 2023 to get it at a more reasonnable price and with the scandalous shifter/cruise control options already paid for the same price as any other used model. I miss the sound of the triple engine and parallel twin are huhh not good regarding sound, but the rest of the bike I enjoy it a lot already. The plan is also that i'll use it occasionnaly as a light tourer on vacations and I think it'll be enough on french and european roads, at least It should be better than a naked roadster for that. Best part of this series is that it helps me do a bit of a research of what bike I would like to ride next... worst part is that I found few years ago that scooters are best and most practical daily riders... Thus, there is no point of me watching DR series at all, but I still do :D

I know 300cc bikes are probably not very popular in the USA, but seeing something like the YZF R3 or even the R15 would be nice (and personally help me decide if I'm going for one as my first bike for going to work). Thanks for the awesome job and I love the videos!

Judging from what they said on a few podcast episodes, the R3 is horribly out of date and underpowered compared to the current newest bikes in the class (the class being up to ~50hp and 500cc or so), so they rarely even consider it for anything. R15 is India only so no one has any clue what that bike is (I’m guessing from the spec list it’s not better)

Yeah, our roads are just too large and drawn out for 300's, good to learn on if you're concerned of a bigger engine, but not meant for our highways and it sucks to find out after you've spent your cash on a bike. Yamaha makes a great bike i recommend trying something 500CC and up or maybe even a Triumph speed 400 if thats your style, for american roads.
