I always wonder: How would the Ninja1000/Z1000SX stack up to the Versys 650 LT on your board? I ride a 2018 Z1000SX myself, but i have never ridden the Versys 650 (i have ridden the Z650 though, and i love it). MCN has for years given the "All Around Bike Of The Year" award to the Z1000SX/Ninja1000, so it is a legitimate question.

To be honest most of the electronics turn me off, and I've literally never needed a blind spot detector thanks to the ability to move my head, but it's one of those things that in spite of what auto makers make out, is insanely easy and cheap to install. I don't want any eletronics in the mirror/stalk though lol. but yeah, a few cheap sensor around the bike and some LED's in the dash isn't going to cost much or have any impact on people who don't want to use it ... so long as you can turn it off.

I will never, EVER, get tired of Zack giggling like a child while doing wheelies and backing in a nearly 600lb motorcycle. I gotta hand it to Ducati on that engine and finally getting rid of the pointless desmo system and hugely improving the service intervals. I know they still use desmo in most of their other bikes, but a big, adventure/touring motorcycle NEEDS those long service intervals and it was a brave step to bring this engine to market. This is an amazing machine, and an amazing motorcycle no matter how you feel about it.

@@JustinHeilman Try a more upright bike and you will never look back bro. We all make the same dumb mistake and buy the sexy 600 supersport bikes, but they are track machines, not street machines. If all you do is ride around town for 30 min trying to look cool, then it's ok i guess. But if you start doing real riding for hours at a time you will realise how stupid your bike is. You can get more useable power, comfort and fun out of a more upright bike, especially with all the other bike choices available today. Good luck , stay safe.

One of your best reviews. I like it when you explain the features of a motorcycle. I'd like to see more indepth explainations of the mechanicles and why they are good? For example...why are Brembo calipers better than Nissin, or why the Goldwings new front suspension set-up is better than the previous set-up. You might need Ari's expertise. You and Ari would make a great duo for the Daily Rider show. Doing side by side comparissons of similar bikes, like the Tracer 900 and the Turismo Veloce. This segment of motorcycles is highly under rated. I call it the 'urban adventure' type of motorcycles. Perdomanitly street orientated but also able to tackle some urban terrian, like hopping over a curb or easily crossing railroad tracks and pot-holes..
@jamesoren7238

20% how the bike rides, 80% explaining all the features ... I think that sums up the multistrada and it's target demographic fairly well.
@uscscjohnson
@uscscjohnson 3 жыл бұрын
Your comment is a perfect blend of insightful and oblivious. Yes, I think the Multistrata appeals to people who want "features." They want a Ducati. They want speed and performance. They want handling. They want "Superbike" tech. They don't want to hunker down into a sport-bike pose. They want performance and a style Harley can't give them along with features that help them to enjoy that spirited performance without killing themselves. They want to utility and everyday ease of the Versys 650 with LOTS more power AND safety farkles that allow them to have a faster more capable bike than a 650 with more safety and aids than a 650. Sounds good to me.

Ducati might suggest to have extended service intervals, but these bikes have a wet clutch. Which means; the dirt/debris coming from the normal wear & tear of everyday riding, goes in the oil and distributed throughout the engine! Just that suggested service interval, would make the engine, wear out faster! (Shorter engine life) Paying the retail price, (25k) means; you have the cash to do services more frequently! Make a good thing last!

I couldn't agree more, I'd still look over the shoulder for blind spots and I'm always going slightly faster than traffic than to leisurely follow or maintain the distance with the car ahead of me. Cruise control, for me, is usually off when there's any sort of traffic with my fingers on the clutch and ready to brake or quickly accelerate. I wouldn't ever want to get too complacent by relying too much on the radar to maintain distance with vehicle ahead of me. I love cruise control, of course, but personally don't see a need for radar on my rides.

I’m taking the skates, stick and puck to the local lake after my Saturday morning KZbin motorcycle fix. I’m grateful that there are warm places so I can ride vicariously until my part of the world thaws out.

Good review and I see what you like, but what we want from a sport-tourer are different. For my mountain twisty tours such as my tours through the Alps and Sierras and the upcoming 9-day June tour through the Pyrenees, the S1000XR is still my gold standard, especially the new generation. The XR is lighter, nimbler, and has better integrated luggage, electronics (e.g., nav/app), etc. It's better in all the ways important to me and this purpose. But there are a few new features the Multi has that are valuable such as the heated seat. The blind-spot warning is nice, though I keep my mirrors adjusted more outward so it doesn't benefit me much. I totally don't care about the active cruise control as I rarely use the regular cruise control on the BMWs I own or otherwise ride (S1000RR, S1000XR, R1250GS). The Multi V4S seems more aimed at the GS (and KTM Superduke GT), especially given the 19" front. I don't do offroad riding and so care less about this category than the XR's ability to delight through the hard twisties on long tours. For this latter purpose, do you prefer the V4 S or the 1260 S?

Zack I want a separate video on the Nav system inwhich it covers the whole screen. I have a 2017 1200s Multistrata. Maybe upgrade or not? I ride sport touring but spirited. Fuel range is a issue. I wonder if my Rapidbike Evo would help it. 🤔 Review the new bag setup and quicksilver also. Run it Thanks Zack.

I think you did right putting the Ducati on top. The heated seat and grips, blind spot detection, and cruise? Yep - beats a more basic bike. If I had the money I would definitely spring for it.

Harley’s are more expensive without electronic suspension. RDRS is an option on touring Harley’s but standard in European bikes.

What's nice about the current motorcycle market is there are great bikes all along the budget spectrum. We should not be attaching pride to budget. Ride what you can get. Just get on the road. Awesome bike. I'm loving these large, nimble, touring bikes and yes the S1000XR would be an amazing bike.

Just decided on a r1250 gs rallye over this. I traded in my multi 1200 as well. I love the multi but over 3 years of ownership it proved to be remarkably unreliable. Spending 6 months in the shops waiting on parts for a broken transmission with only 9k miles on the clock.
