www.revzilla.com/arai-xd-4-hel...
The Arai XD-4 is the newest generation of Arai Dual Sport Helmet. Offered in a variety of Solid and Graphic options, this newest edition gets an upgraded ventilation system, adjustable cheek pads, and a new visor system. Also one of the only DS helmets on the market that is Snell 2010 approved. If you are looking for a lightweight, high-end Dual Sport helmet you can wear all day, every day, look no further.

Just got this helmet today, and boy..It's amazing. I could really tell the venting was superb once you broke 40mph. Not sure yet how it will handle at lower speeds. But when I hit 40+ I could feel alot of fresh air entering the helmet, and I was kept nice and cool riding in 90 degree weather with 98% humidity.

I ride with the XD3 as soon as it's above freezing... it closes off airflow everywhere but the chin area pretty well (and you need it's airflow system there to defog which works very well... couple hot breaths stick at first but then your moving and it's cleared in seconds)

I'm not sure what you meant by not being able to crack the shield when talking about the locking tab? I ride with the XD-3 and if you leave it unlocked the face shield is basically cracked allowing a ton of airflow both top and bottom (pretty obvious here in MN in the winter when you're trying to STOP airflow LOL). Also the Peak does yank your head around pretty violently if worn at high speed and put in the airstream (maybe you're on a 12GS with that big ole windshield?)... but removable!

I've had my XD4 for about 8 months now, and I absolutely love it. Incredibly comfortable, great field of vision. It's been down to Mexico and onto the race track with me. The only things I could think to complain about is how slow shield changes are. When I was touring and dusk came around it took longer than I would have liked to swap out smoke for clear.

Switching from a sport bike to a triumph scrambler and looking to get an adv/dual sport style lid that's going to give me the comfort and safety (Snell rating) that I'm used to so I'm really liking this Arai but I'm wondering if the peak on the helmet is going to catch the wind on a totally naked bike like the triumph. Any comments on that subject would be appreciated!
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 9 жыл бұрын
krasp28 At high speeds, the peak will catch the wind a bit on any bike, so you just have to adapt to it. Unless you're really riding through a lot of branches or catching a lot of roost, you won't really need the peak visor. Therefore, you could just remove the peak for most riding. -DrewZilla

Great review.... just one question. Is there a recess to fit the earpiece when using an interphone f5?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 7 жыл бұрын
See 8:32. Yes and no. Unlike most helmet cheek pads that are just soft foam, the XD-4 cheek pads have soft foam built up on top of hard EPS foam. EPS is the same styrofoam material that absorbs impacts in the rest of the helmet. There is no soft foam on the cheek pads at the ear area though (since you need space for your ears). The cheek pad fabric is also removable. So while there aren't recesses in the main helmet, there is plenty of room to mount speakers to the EPS foam area of the cheek pads at the ears (see the grey part of the cheek pad at 9:13). Hope this helps! -DrewZilla

Hello RevZilla, if you could please help me decide between a Sig-Q or XD-4 I would greatly appreciate it. I have a head shape that will probably fit either and I was just going to get the Sig-Q unless there is some benefit to having a dual sport style helmet that I am unfamiliar with, or is it just a styling thing. I mean my question is, is the XD-4 going to provide me with some off road benefit that I would miss with the SIg-Q or is it just cool?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 жыл бұрын
+Everett McGill I'm not sure how your head would fit both, as we find the XD-4 to have an intermediate to round oval fit, while the Signet-Q has a true long oval fit. The XD-4 is closer in fit to the RX-Q (the Signet-Q is basically an RX-Q that's been stretched 5mm front to back). I'd only recommend the XD-4 if you intend to wear goggles while riding off-road or really need the peak visor in order to deflect the roost of a riding buddy in front of you. If you don't intend to wear goggles and truly have a long oval head shape, get the Signet-Q. If you have a more intermediate-oval head shape, get the RX-Q. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/arai-xd-4-helmet *www.revzilla.com/arai-signet-q-helmet *www.revzilla.com/arai-rx-q-helmets

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 6 жыл бұрын
I'm concerned about your current helmet fit. With a brand new helmet, it should feel a little bit tight but shouldn't give you a headache. At 55cm, I do recommend you try the Arai XD4 in size small. -DrewZilla

Has anyone complained about the glue failing on the adjustable comfort liner pads? This will be my first helmet so I have no experience with their helmets. I'm mainly concerned with washing it. Are there any recommendations on the strength/method of cleaning for motorcycle helmets in general. For all I know, there could be instructions that come with the helmet.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 7 жыл бұрын
No, we have not received complaints about that. I wear an Arai, and I have not had any issues with the padding either. You should wash the helmet pads by hand with a mild detergent such as baby shampoo. For the cheek pads, you only need to wash the removable cheek pad cover fabric. -DrewZilla

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 5 жыл бұрын
Well the race helmet Corsair-V was the first to be updated (to the Corsair-X), and now we have the Quantum-X, Signet-X, DT-X, and Defiant-X. Therefore, we could assume that the off-road VX Pro 4 and this dual sport XD-4 would likely be next to be updated. However, we don't know whether it will be one year, two years, or longer. -DrewZilla

@@RevZilla as strange as it might sound im considering this against an RF1200 - i ride a supermoto and do virtually zero off road riding, but if i can get into a duel sport for the same price i thought it would be worth considering. Obviously they are intended for different applications so my question becomes - would you select this helmet over a Hornet??
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 5 жыл бұрын
Both the XD-4 and the Hornet X2 are both really well-made dual sport helmets, so it really comes down to whichever fits you better. The main difference is that the Shoei has face shield detents for intermediate opening positions, while the Arai does not (though you can still keep the Arai shield open partway). Both can be used with or without the peak visor as well. -DrewZilla

I know this is an old video, but I just purchased this (at a local shop) and I did not notice much while I was walking around with it on, but once I wore it riding (I ride a bagger), I noticed my chin is super close to the helmet and it fogs up really fast. Does anyone else have this issue? Is it safe to have a helmet so close to your chin like that? And I do not have a pronounced chin or anything like that.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 8 жыл бұрын
+Neo Smith Arai helmets are generally compact around the chin, but that's perfectly safe and normal. As for fogging, Arai does not use anti-fog coatings on its face shields. Instead, they do offer a separate Pinlock-ready face shield that accepts a Pinlock anti-fog shield insert. -DrewZilla *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/arai-xd-4-brow-vent-pinlock-ready-face-shield *www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/arai-xd-4-xd-3-pinlock-lens-insert

Would anyone recommend this helmet for a naked bike? I have a Z800 and someone told me it wouldn't be comfortable unless you sit completely upright because the visor would catch wind/air. I'm hoping the difference is marginal seeing how the Z800 has only a slight lean forward.
@RevZilla

I've worn dual sport helmets on a naked bike (Triumph Scrambler) and it is true - the visor will catch the wind, even in an upright position. I would say it isn't unbearable, but it can be louder with more drag than a traditional street helmet. Tough to say how it would fare on a Z800. -TeamZilla Chris

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 7 жыл бұрын
It is not exactly the same. They look the same, but the XD-4's shell and EPS foam are designed to pass the US DOT safety standard as well as the private Snell safety standard. The Tour X4 sold in Europe is designed for the ECE safety standard, and the Tour-Cross 3 meets the Japanese JIS standard and private Snell standard. The Tour-Cross 3 also has a rounder fit compared to the more intermediate oval fit of the US-market XD-4. -DrewZilla

Yes, you can fit a Sena 30K in/on the XD-4. Arai helmets have bigger cheek pads than other helmets, and the cheek pads have removable fabric covers. Due to the cheek pad design, you actually mount the speakers to the hard EPS base of the cheek pads and then put the removable cover back on.
