Undoubtedly that’s not how it works as a creative being. Each instrument, no matter how similar they are, just like a guitar there are many many different models... it’s the instrument that tells you what will be played by the energy you receive as soon as you place it next to your body. Besides, would have been boring to hear the same song for almost the entire length of the video. Great hat by the way brother 🙏🏼💜🇨🇦

Aloha ReWildYourSoul, thank you for so many helpful videos & informative content. I’m an old beach drummer, djembes & djun djuns. During Covid I practiced isolationism, and stopped playing at our Maui beach drum circles for over a year. During that time, I purchased four Rav Vast, direct. 1st a D-Major, 2nd a G-Pygmy, 3rd an E-Low Pygmy, and 4th a B Kurd. Thought I was done, but Rav just had a big 7th BD sale, & I ordered my 1st handpan a D Hijaz. I watched your D Hijaz videos, which I appreciate. I love the ease of the Vasts, the sturdy nature, and the vibrational sounds. I’m a little worried the handpan will be much more difficult to play, but believe it holds different sounds, & will allow more off note sounds than the heavier Vasts. I picked the D Hijaz for the huge 30% sale price, but also thought it would fit with my Vast collection. My Question is for you & your style, if you only had a single pan, what handpan would fit your needs or style??? Mahalo…..
@ReWildYourSoul3 жыл бұрын
Hey there! That is a good question. I think if I only had one handpan scale, I would choose either Kurd or F Low pygmy, as these provide much variety and chordal potential. For most players, writing songs is not the goal, so more limited scales are not an issue. That said, they all have their time and place! Great questions! :)

Thanks Ricky! I've read that handpans require quite a bit more care in handling than, let's say, a RAV Vast, and it's possible for the instrument to go out of tune if played too hard or handled improperly. While we know that the different materials affect the timbre of the sound, how do the different materials affect the overall tuning stability of the instrument? Is one more likely to remain in tune over another given the same care and playing style? A handpan is likely my next hand percussion instrument, and I want to make sure I get it right the first time. It takes too long to save for something like this to screw it up ;) Thanks for the post, take care my friend! Stay safe, healthy and happy!
@ReWildYourSoul4 жыл бұрын
Handpans definitely require a different care ritual than a Rav or other Tongue drums! For me, I have really never had issues with tuning. For example, RavPan from 2018 is still perfectly in tune. It all really depends on how you strike and treat the instrument. I am going to be starting a podcast soon and interviewing some makers, so that may be useful in hearing more about he process directly from them! For me, stainless is one of my favorite materials, but I am a sucker for sustain, 🤷♂️. I also love the sound of raw steel as we’ll so it’s a hard choice! If you find one you like and want a second opinion, be in touch 🙏
@ChiefPoints4 жыл бұрын
@@ReWildYourSoul Thanks Ricky, great info, I love sustain as well. Given this will be my first handpan, I think I may look for something more in the middle of the road, something that will lend itself to both slow and faster pieces. @ReWildYourSoul4 жыл бұрын
It’s funny, even handpan don’t follow their own rules sometimes haha. The handromeda Pan, which is raw steel, is super stable. Some of it is just how skilled or in what way a tuner approaches making the instrument! As long as they are focused on stability, the material only really matter for care and tonal reasons. 😉 I am sure you will love whatever you get! @@ReWildYourSoul Each instrument has unique stories to tell that just come out if you allow them to speak. They all have their individuality and simply encourage you to play differently. I have had several guitars. Some very expensive and some very inexpensive.......If they are able to play in tune (To Me Anyway) then they let me know what to play....I would not necessarily have composed the same composition on another guitar. For me..tone is everything.... Love your playing by the way and attention to detail...refreshing !

I could listen to this all day, it’s amazing. I’m trying to collect those different types of instruments, and so far I have two native flutes one F note and the other A, and a singing bowl, but the sound of these hand pans are incredible, way more tranquil and easier to get lost in the sound of than what I got. Got this on my list !

@@ReWildYourSoul Thank you so much for the fast reply!! This instrument is truly beautiful, so ethereal. Im searching for ethereal music for hours but its so hard to find it. Especially this kind of handspan music it really makes me feel some type of way, a mystical kind of vibe. Sometimes I feel like this music is tuning in with your own vibration. One question, did u listen to Aria Math by C418 and could you tell me if u like it? I’m really interested in your opinion about it.

Loved your video thank you for all the great info. I loved the Dmar none chrome stainless steel sound very much. I’m looking to buy my first handpan. What maker do you recommend for this type? I have limited budget. Thank you so much🙏

Hey! SonidoDeMano handpans are amazing! They run around 1100 to 1700, so may be a bit expensive. As an alternative, Rav Vast’s are beautiful as wel!

The low end of the market seems to have come down to the USD $450 range. I’m expecting an Amazon delivery this afternoon. I expect it to be good enough to learn on and to satisfy my instrument collecting urge. Since I am not a performer, I don’t expect to need a high end instrument, Although I am already slightly envious of the greater range I’m seeing in some KZbin videos. The one I picked is 9 notes in a D minor Kurd tuning, not that I have any clue about the difference in Kurd vs Celtic vs whatever else is available tuning.
@ReWildYourSoul3 жыл бұрын
Hey brother! Yes the ones on amazon are sometimes tuned, but it’s really a longevity thing. Makers who are familiar with the building process can assure they stay in tune and hold their sharp well. Some of that market is ok, some meh. That said, I have tried instruments from many makers and even the “low end” ones can be nice! Regardless, you will love it! If you are in the market for lessons when it arrives, be in touch! 🙏

Hi Ricky, excellent video! Can you please tell me what is the allowable error in setting the note? I bought myself a RavPan D Celtic, and on the tuner I found that two notes go to + 12/15 cents (while the sound is clear, even), the rest are in order + 2/3. They have a 30 day return policy, should I return it and exchange it for another one? Thanks in advance for your reply!

As someone who is looking and saving up for one. I Personally settled with stainless steel at 7:20 . I love the clear rich tone it gives and its a very warm feeling. As far a what scale to buy, i have a RAV Vast Steel drum in D Celtic minor. So if i did get a hand pan, it would be nice to switch it up. Do you have any recommendations for other scales for beginners ? 🙂
@ReWildYourSoul Жыл бұрын
Yes! Stainless is a great choice. Kurd, and Pygmy scales are great. If you are in the market do a stainless pan, I have a few available!

Hi 👋, you're truly talented, blessed. It was great listening to you. The peace that a handpan brings is also in your personality and voice. Thank you for putting this video together. I was hoping to hear from you about a few brands that a beginner can look into. Like you said, each one's preference is different but for a starter, how do we go about exploring the handpans. Do you have a video or know someone who has that you can point me to. I would love to learn about makers and hear the instruments so I can pick one. Thank you again for such great advice and for taking the time to read my comment.

@@ReWildYourSoul , I'm entering that world on Sunday when Amazon ships me some sleel tounge drum to start. I would really like to get a hand pand or obe of your RAVs but they are pricey and Idk enough about it all to drop more then a hundred into it. Are the price ranges for both usually between 600 to 2000 bucks? I need a panhand on a pan handlers budget, lol!

Please write out the maker of the instrument you demonstrated shoulder tone harmonics on - something Dimano, perhaps (8:00 minutes). It would be great to know all the makers. Thank you for sharing your genius in the brilliant performance demonstrations.
