REWIND: Faith Can Not Be Your Financial Crutch

As we kickoff financial literacy month, I'm doing a REWIND episode before we start the Confident Money Series, next week. I didn't record this week, because my heart is telling me that I can grieve and mourn even for someone I don't know personally. My husband and I were just at the store where Nipsey Hussle was shot. As someone who grew up in that area, it's just heartbreaking.
I will be sharing specific tips for the upcoming Confident Money Series. In this episode, I set the tone by going back to why faith cannot be your financial crutch. It will be a great foundation as we get into the Confident Money Series.

CLIFF NOTES
Many of us have been raised to believe that money is bad or being poor is more noble. This can create conflicting beliefs.
We can’t just be irresponsible with our financial lives, and then just pray for things to get better.
There is a personal responsibility that comes with personal finance. Some things you just need to do.
We can’t pray our way out of financial problems and predicaments. We should pray before we get into those predicaments.
You have to know your own numbers. We are all responsible for what goes in and what goes out.
You need to accept help when needed. Sometimes you need the help of someone else to get to what's next for you.
Nurture what you do know. Words are powerful. You should wake up knowing that you are ready to manage your money and manage it well.

I remember at the Hoodie Awards in Atlanta, a mother asked you how can she get her daughter to be more responsible with her utility bill because she kept coming to the mom saying her utilities were going to get cut off and the mother would bail her out. I remember you stating something like, you have to let her utilities get cut off. The mother cringed when you gave her that advice and went on to say that her grandchildren were in the house as well. You pretty much let her know that daughter was using the grandchildren to make her feel guilty if she did not assist her. That was a good example of the mother being a crutch to her daughter.

I am new here. I saw you on the Lisa show about 10 min ago. When you mentioned the Holy Spirit, you had me! I know it was nothing but the Lord for me to hear your story and what you have to offer. I was just talking to the Lord on how I should go about doing certain things, yes, finances is one of them but the thorn in my side is STUDENT DEBT. Ok, in my church ppl would call me extremist, because even the clothes I wear must be approved by God. Let me tell you this hurt in a good way, why? Cause you some might call it coincidence but I call it God’s purpose. This is exactly what I’ve been learning lately and the Lord has been teaching me through my own mistakes and misunderstandings about money and bad management. It’s like being pre diabetic and continuing to eat badly and praying to God for good health. And when you develop diabetes full blown your trying to rebuke the spirit of inferm and you don’t realize that’s the consequence of a bad eating habit you were warned about. 😂 it hurts but speak!!
