If you haven't done this yet but plan to, let me give you some helpful tips. Use two needles and do a "baseball stitch" but instead of using the yarn as a way of connecting, use the holes the red yarn is coming thru to do it. Use upholstery thread. It's super strong and comes in all colors and won't fray like the yarn does. Extra needles are super cheap. Look for embroidery needles. Instead of the double sided tape, use DAP contact cement. A Small can will be all you need. Lightly apply the contact cement to both the steering wheel and the leather, and once it's "dry" you press the two pieces together. You can also use contact cement for the outer parts of the steering wheel. This helps prevent the leather from slipping around when it's stitched together. I've seen professional auto upholsterers do it this way and that's the way I do it as well. You can do a custom wrap over your factory cracked wood with leather to match the steering wheel as well with contact cement. Very useful, but it stinks so use in a well ventilated area!

Oookay. This Chick is the full package , she muscles tires around the shop, completely dismantles an interior out of a transformer caught in mid flight, yanks the engine out of her own car,now stitches an aftermarket steering wheel cover that looks awesome. 🗣ALL THIS WHILE ROCKING PINK NAIL POLISH!!! Selena you rock👍🏾. You should demand a raise from Shoplife.😂😂Get one for Fluffy while you're at it.😂

Did mine this weekend. Top tip with these kits, as she did here, take the steering wheel off. It’s easy to do and let’s you make a far better job of it, at a table, with good light, in comfort. I’ve done it both ways, trust me on this. As for results, the better the cut material, the better the outcome. I followed the instructions too and I’m not sure what is to be gained by different stitching or different adhesive. My steering wheel was pretty bad and had chunks of leather missing. I filled the holes with thick card and wound electrical tape tight around the card. This was more or less flat and once covered you’d never know in terms of feel or look.

I have installed several Wheelskins, which are by far the best quality product of this type. I quickly learned to wear thin deerskin gloves, as your hands get pretty beat up without them. Stitches need to be pulled up tightly and uniformly. A hair dryer helps to make the leather a bit more flexible where needed. Patience is required, I would allow 2 hours for the job.

This is worth the money if you ask me, I would say if you decide to do it on your own M3 steering wheel selena, scrap the crappy sewing needle and look for a round sewing needle! Usually a local store like Joanne's has them for cheap and they'd do fantastic on a job like this. Best of luck !

@@BMWselena Can you send me link for the leather steering trim for bmw e46 please.

A few points 1. The wrap will make the steering thicker and the grip will feel different 2. Use a hair dryer to blow hot air around the edges and corners while pressing them to get a nice looking good fit. 3. The perforated type is nice to look at but will gather dirt and grime and is not quite wipe to clean 4. Do not.use thinner to clean the wrap or the center pad as it will decolorise the parts.

I appreciate you introducing me to this kit but I think if I had the money I would spend the $300 and have it perfect. Those minor flaws would bug me knowing that they were there. That's just me though. It looks too "Aftermarket" for my brain. You are inspiring a bunch of folks to work on their vehicles. I love it when people say BMW's are too expensive to fix. Not if you do the work yourself and watch KZbin instruction videos. Thank you for posting all your content. It is appreciated.
@rcrod31927 жыл бұрын
On the section where's loose you can use a heat gun and that'll shrink the leather at least enough to make it look a bit cleaner. Also on your ends specially where's you said it was a bit short you could use crazy glue under it so it doesn't start peaking off and or it rips from regular use. Believe it or not the stealing wheels do take a pretty good beating so taking this little extra steps can extend the life expectancy of your upgrade. Anyways, nice product review video! 😊

yeah not bad at all, makes the wheel come back to life. I got one from a company called mewant on Amazon for $25 for my z4 , and luckily for me, the leather was cut exactly to spec so I just removed the old leather completely and currently sewed on half of the steering wheel cover on. And it's fitting perfectly being to be tucked in everywhere and no bulges. But yeah good job great product to make it look great again.

Great video, how does the leather feel with the wholes in it vs the stock wheel? Also would this work better if the old stitching was removed first? Mines cracking near the top of the leather due to the first owner not taking care of the leather on the wheel I've been looking at replacing the wheel or sending it for a new cover this looks like a much cheaper option that's for sure!

I think to get a perfect finished job its better to follow another clip elsewhere which shows how to measure and cut a piece out and then stitch it.It will be better at the 'ears' of the steering wheel and the edges will be pulled together by thread to be flush and level at the stitching with each other
@erickrayos7 жыл бұрын
bought the same kit for 25bucks from aliexpress.com Gotta say its pretty good. I like it. The way you stitched them is way different from the instruction that came with mine. first it was single thread not double thread that was used on the instruction on mine which I did the same, the alignment came a lot closer than yours did but still not perfect (maybe one to two loop off).
@BMWselena7 жыл бұрын
I used this stitching method because that is the method that BMW uses. Sorry forgot to mention.
