There are parts from sail that are different and you have to know how to make them work. I have a rex z also. I have spent hours learning how to set things to work. What a learning experience.

I wonder if for a 6 month project, if the higher price of the Sailrite would be recouped when selling a more popular name brand? Buying & selling on the used market.

I've had a small issue or two with my Rex but I tell you what for the price that I bought it for on OfferUp I think I paid like $170 for it that machine is wonderful it strong goes through a lot of material and for the price savings I could deal with and make adjustments and all the sailrite parts fit it

SO, if I understand Matt's explanations on the forum properly, the walking foot should lift 3mm and the presser foot should lift 1-2mm? "The center foot will rise depending upon the lift of the outer foot. The outer foot being the walking foot. So when the feet are down the way to check this is to rotate the flywheel until the walking foot is at its highest position. Stop at this point and measure the gap under the foot (bottom of walking foot to top of needle plate). The gap should be 3mm. If it is not then you need to raise or lower the walking foot accordingly. Make this adjustment by removing the side end cover and locating the two screw clamp at about the mid point of the walking foot vertical shaft. The screws are 3mm head allens and they face the rear of the machine. After the gap is set properly you will notice that the center presser foot will rise about 1 to 2 mm when the walking foot is in its furthest downward movement. So the key statement here is that the feet work off of one another. Thanks, Matt Sailrite"

Correct, that being said, when it is traveling over fabric it will be able to exceed those numbers to accommodate thicker materials

Would you do a video on adjusting the feed dogs? I bought a machine, everything seems to be just slightly out of adjustment. Feed dogs seem to have turned and are not in alignment with the top. The reason I think it's the feed dogs is because they are not in alignment with the slots in the plate. Thanks!!

Yikes, if you could take some pictures or upload a video I can make a video on the topic. Right now I'm not certain how they can't be in alignment with the slots.

Great video. I just picked up a Family Sew 388. Same design as yours. My walking feet when raised are only 3/16”. Supposed to be 3/8”-1/2”. Any idea how to fix this? Tia.

Are you raising it by the lever on the top, or are you talking about when in motion?
@chernobyl79
@chernobyl79 4 жыл бұрын
Oren Research Group when raised by the lever up top. The feet also smash and click on the feed dogs when hand operating without material. I’m at a loss. I dropped feed dogs all the way down and the walking feet marred the needle plate.
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 4 жыл бұрын
@@chernobyl79 OK, so at the 3:00 mark you see two screws. Those are the adjustment for the walking foot position with respect to the needle bar. The needle bar height determines how much stepping the stepper foot does. There's a very fine adjustment distance between no walking movement and it raising sufficiently. Since the lever up top isn't raising it at all, that means one of the two is dropped too far down, I think it is the walking foot(the two screws).

Hi. Thanks the upload.i have the same machine and 2 things are strange on mine, can you confirm or check on yours is it the same? So when the needle bar just going up, it feels like tighter than on the way down. Is it normal? Also the walkingfoot it feels loose a bit, it can move side ways a bit. What do you think? Thanks Tom
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 4 жыл бұрын
What do you mean by tightness? Are you talking about the slop(side to side play)? Or how much it can bend? The slop should be fairly consistent in the needle bar regardless of the height, but the bending should decrease the higher up the needle bar is. For the walking foot, by moving sideways, do you mean you can rotate it? If so, you will need to tighten a grub screw on the shaft that secures it. If instead you mean it purely can be shifted side to side, that sounds like a tolerance problem. If you could upload a video I could tell you more.

Nice to see someone working on one of these. I have one and am terribly disappointed in the foot lift height. My wife's domestic Brother, has a far higher foot lift than the 607z. I got it for sewing heavy vinyl and leather and wanted the zig zag for repairing sails. It is a battle royal to feed even 4 layers of heavy material under the foot. Got working on sails too, and found the zig zag gets narrower and narrower as one gets into more layers of sailcloth. Even at the widest stitch width, once in 4 layers of sailcloth it looks like a buttonhole zig zag stitch. I used to have a Juki LU563 N and it could go sew 5 or 6 layers of leather. This thing is impossible. Even a few layers of denim are difficult to slide under the walking foot. Any chance anyone reading this has a solution to be able to lift the pressure foot higher on these machines?

Thanks for the comment JJ, so far my machine has sewn through anything I've been able to get under the presser foot. Regarding lifting it higher, unless yours is just improperly adjusted, lifting it up more will affect the feeding dogs

New to industrial sewing. A hobby of mine has turned into a small startup (in the garage) business. I purchased the Reliable 200 ZW Baracuda portable sewing machine as being advertised for medium to heavy work. The Baracuda was within my budget. Transporting the machine to and from client work projects will be a plus down the road. Your Rex and the Sailrite look identical to my Baracuda. How can this be? The price difference between the Baracuda and Sailrite is ridiculous. The Rex and Baracuda prices are not so far apart.
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 3 жыл бұрын
Sailrite sells you on customer support, and QC. Barracuda has some amount of QC, Rex doesn't really. Sailrite also basically took the same machine that China was selling, made a list of everything shoddy about it, and got another company to make said replacement parts. So buying a Sailrite is basically being taken into that ecosystem of support. Unfortunately I don't have a sailrite on hand, if I did, I could make a detailed comparison of how they are different(as I have a background in engineering and machining/manufacturing)

@@TurkishLoserInc so did you purchase from Sailrite or Rex? Do you have an 800 number for Rex?
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 4 жыл бұрын
@@boephco I purchased it from Global Industrial Supplies on Amazon. It was $320 when I purchased it, it appears to be $490 from them now. The phone number is for a sewing machine mechanic that will ask for a reference number on the machine before helping you, I didn't have to buy the parts he sent them for free as the machine was still in the return window.

Yes! That being said, I'll make a short video on it, as there's this rod that is not pictured in the video that has a set screw that you will need to loosen, then adjust the rod to the right.

I haven't had to replace it unfortunately, if you have to make a new one, you could cut off a piece of dowel rod of the correct diameter, drill a hole in the center, and wrap it with electrical tape.

I need a presserfoot for 5/16" Piping, not welting. Piping doesn't compress like welting. I bought sailrite leather one, but it doesn't work on mine. Suggestions of where to look will be most grateful. If you take the one that came on it & put it beside the one from sailrite, the sailrite bottom is much higher than the original foot.

Hi… I have a machine like this and the top thread not catching the bobbin thread, how to fix that problem?
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately without a video I don't quite understand your problem enough to propose a solution, it could be that the bobbin case is misaligned, but this seems like a problem for a professional. Watching a timing video for the LSZ-1 is probably a good idea, as it goes into the adjustment of the bobbin case and how it interacts with the needle.

Thank you for your upload. Is there away to lift the walk foot height?
@TurkishLoserInc
@TurkishLoserInc 4 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the walking foot height is tied to the pressing foot mechanism. Properly adjusted, it will have a set walk foot height as I explain around the 3 minute mark. If you wish to climb thicker objects, I would lift the pressing foot assembly from the lever at the top, guide it over the thicker piece, and continue sewing.

I just installed an adapter ring that someone 3D Printed for me. The adapter fits over the cogs on the existing standard balance wheel. It has 80 teeth, which is similar to the “Monster Balance Wheels” that Sailrite sells. It provides a gear reduction of 19.8:1 vs the standard gear reduction of 9.8:1. Here is a link to a video of my clone with the adapter ring installed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJvHmXx-etV4nbs
