This is the primary district for international visitors, and the use of English, the main international language, is meant to be helpful. Everywhere else, the Icelandic language will be dominant. Tourism is an important part of the Icelandic economy. Most Icelanders are fluent in English, and they know that outside of their country, very few people know Icelandic. Even other Scandinavians find it very difficult to learn. But you will find that people are delighted if you at least learn a few Icelandic phrases --- even if you aren't likely to be able to pronounce them correctly [try saying "“Þjóðminjasafnið" !!].

@@sirpetric6522 I'm not against faith, and I hope I never become an opponent of it, but don't you think you have a direct answer to my question? You don't know what is the way and the truth.
@narrowisthewaytoeternityАй бұрын
@@артфилнов Before you ask what is the way and the truth you should ask why you want to find the way and the truth? It seems to me you already know we live in a world filled with lies and dishonesty. Hence your search for truth. The answer to your question is simple yet hard to digest. We've all sinned and fallen short of God's glory, there is none righteous, there is none who does good. The penalty for sin is death, that is everlasting punishment in God's prison (the Lake which burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death). But because God is rich in mercy, has no pleasure in the death of the wicked but wants that all should come to repentance and be saved he made sure none of us have to go to Hell. This is where the gospel (good news) comes in: God became a man in the person of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, born of a virgin 2000 years ago, lived among us, tempted in all points just like us, yet never sinned because he was God in the flesh. And he was 33 years old, he died on the cross for our sins, was buried and after 3 days he rose from the grave by the power of God. After his resurrection he was of Peter, the apostles and of over 500 people at one point and finally he was seen of Paul as well. Unless you repent you shall perish. If you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and shall believe in your heart that God had raised him from the dead, you shall be saved. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Before you even thought of that question, there was another man, called Pilate, a roman governor, who asked Jesus 'What is truth?". Jesus already answered to this question that you and billions have asked over the course of history: John 14:6 "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." In one of gospels (John) Jesus is also described as being the truth: John 1:1,14 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth." You need to be free from sin and death, this only comes about by being born again through faith in Jesus Christ: John 8:32 "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." All of the world religions will promise you anything if you do something (be a good person, help others, do this and that, visit this place or that etc). The problem is, no amount of good will help you get to Heaven, nor avoid Hell. That's cause our righteousness is like filthy rags and we're saved by grace through faith, which is not of ourselves, it's the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Grace means "undeserved gift". God is offering you salvation, you just have to accept it by repenting and believing the gospel. There is one God and one mediator between God and men: the man Jesus Christ and there is none other name under heaven, given among men, whereby we must be saved. Think about where you'll spend eternity, because that's a very long time without end and there's only 2 places where one will up: Heaven or the Lake of fire. God is the God of love, he ain't forcing anyone into Heaven to live with Him. But if people reject God and want nothing to do with Him, there's only one place where He'll send them: a place void of his love, mercy, justice, righteousness, life and joy. I'll end with the words of Jesus: Mark 8:36-38 "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?"

This is just a small portion of the city. The graffiti and all of that is usually found around the tourists areas, and they are often made by foreigners. Iceland has never been a place where one can hang around and do nothing. The natives work and the lively part happens on certain occasions like on weekends or on certain festivals.
