Right now its definite as you can see, those Vanessa opponents are now Dooley opponents. Went from 9/10 Vanessa opponents to 9/10 Dooley ones. No puffer, so it's haste monitor.

I think I see a way in which I can agree that forcing being a thing isn't indicative of a design flaw. If the idea of the game never rotating items, not having a curated standard mode etc. will stick, we can expect forcing to slowly become less and less viable, due to the increased item pool. As more stuff gets added, finding one specific item will inevitably become tougher.

Except reynad says that they will sell card packs, they arne't gonna be free. So if the "core" set is the best you just never buy the other packs or only the premium ones so you are pulling from a 50 card pool instead of a 300 one.

Granted, the idea of having less variety for more competitive consistency is not something most players would be interested in doing, as effectively they wouldn't experience the fun of the updates, which would make the game stale for them and that'd motivate them to expand their collection. But, for higher ranks we can expect people to do less original fun and meme combos, in favour of the stuff that's known to be powerful. And if doing that deincentivises players from interacting with updates to the item pool, it is a problem. Especially because of how broken the existing stuff can already be.

I think if you're new you shouldn't hop into ranked instantly, but also once you do, you should be okay with a win being rare (and thus more rewarding).

Yeah that's how I've been viewing it. I'm a week in, have been playing more than I care to admit lmao. I've been getting 7-8 wins casually but maybe 1 or 2 ranked so not itching to jump in until I'm better at it. And that's okay!

Yeah better to save any tickets you have until you’re more used to it. I would recommend people use their free daily ranked run for a shot at some chest due to I think that in game currency will be used to get new heroes when they release.

I think a good way to work in a "timer" could be a solution that looks like the Civilization games - a custom mode, whete players can create a friendly online or LAN lobby with custom rules where they can makr the game as easy or as hard as they like, such as creating a timer, cost of items, enchanting pools, level up rewards, etc. that allow players to screw around with the balance of the game. This can even allow 1v1 matches with a friend if you wanted to since you both would progress on the same days, and then whoever is the first to 7 wins, wins the friendly match.

I got access to the game via a code, so I can't complain too much, but I'll add a few of my thoughts in regardless. Right now, as I started with a code with 0 currency, I am feeling the progression being a bit dreadful at the moment, no idea how long until I'd be able to afford the third hero, even with the discount. That third hero is Dooley. I don't have access to Dooley and Dooley seems a bit overtuned rn, so it makes it even tougher. Probably also a reason I find the game slightly less fun this patch. The above Dooley problem is also impacted by the fact it's very hard for me to understand what's happening on any Dooley board I face, it all goes so fast and there's no review of the fight. I know this is supposed to come, I do wish it's soon. About skill-based matchmaking in strategy games, I feel like the idea is just inherently unfair? It's a bit weird since some games do need it, but many strategy games add ranks for these newer players and then they have to add bots so that matchmaking is still quick, so it's not too different from Reynad's idea of new players playing PVE first. Oh, and forcing does seem tougher this patch. Either that or I am not sure what I am trying to do with Pyg/Vanessa Now the two next things are very little, but I am not exactly where to give Reynad feedback, as these are not exactly bug reports: 1. Pyg items -> Shipment says it has no base value, right? Pinata and Safe also have no base value but they do not specify so. I hope they clarify it in their descriptions too. 2. Hogwash (max HP gain in fight) -> If a player has hogwash in play, it's completely impossible to follow their current health. Why does MaxHP gain during fight just completely overwrite the current HP display-wise for a moment?

How does the pool of PvP fights work. For example does the pool reset each patch? And does the first person who plays each patch fight against an old build? Is there a maximum amount of people you could potentially face or is it anyone on the same day for that patch?

This developer - head of the game - seems soo disconnected from his own game that it makes it hard for me to justify giving him way too much money to get into the closed beta and gems for 2 more characters. And knowing the new characters will cost 30+ euro including tax is just insane. I can get recently released AAA games for that!!!

One big problem with his mentality that there are counters to the broken meta build is that there’s no real incentive to play Vanessa or Pyg. If there was some kind of character specific progression system that gave players a reason to stick to a character regardless of meta, his argument would have weight, but as it is, it’s just a dev wanting people to play how it’s theoretically meant to be played instead of admitting the actual state of the game

The other problem is if you are playing for rank and you're playing high HP one shot pyg you either High roll early and you have crook and stuff to win early or you win by day 15 and lose rank anyways because you didn't win fast enough

I don't mind card packs as an idea, but it's important that matchmaking and balance are taken into account in my opinion. Super Auto Pets does this great, having different lobbies for different card pack combos. I hope they do something similar. I don't personally mind paying for expansions, but if that means it becomes pay to win (or pay to lose due to less consistency), then I will stop playing the game because it will be boring.

I feel quite bummed seeing the response, especially the comp part. I understand the reasonning, but a game will always have lots of people that play to be the best. Those people will not care about the "fun" modes and will go to competitive. And those players will be burnt out quickly. As Reynad says, the comp games with no matchmaking usually implements it quickly. There is a reason for that, and people will always care more about ranked modes than any other mode. Also on the point of make the experience more like a roguelite, may I highlight that once a player is good enough at the game to have a decent winrate, the game adds "difficulty modifiers" to make the game more challenging ? Ranked should be more of a challenge the deeper you goes, not getting easier and more boring the longer you plays.

I haven’t heard from Reynad in a long time, since he streamed HS years ago. I always respected his hustle and entrepreneurial spirit tho. But if ya can’t grow a beard man, just don’t do it. It’s like going bald-it eliminates some style options for you, but you’re better off embracing it. The under-jaw sparse dangle is absolutely never the play tho.

i just hope the item pool never becomes too big. i think its the downfall of many games. if you only get random shit its a lot harder to evaluate your own build bc youll never be able to realize major synergies.

I guess, at least separating this sort of "Legend" rank from others but pre-legend would be nice. This way you will still encounter strong players, but not these sweaties at legends. I feel that with how the philosophy/vision is right now - the ranked will feel dreadful to play as a noob. Also, i dont know what "Single player PVE" means: if its just against pre-build dev bots = its bad, cause you can't improve above this difficulty; if its against ghosts, might be to hard. Dunno Game now - after free to play release - after full release and after 1 year after full release will differ from each other quite a lot, and so everything can change in any time (Philosophy/Vision wise).
