Хладвазор was one of those albums that gave me a lot of trouble when I was first getting into it. However, listening to that album while watching the aurora borealis for the first time just made everything click. Absolutely majestic experience, and I don't think I'll ever forget it.

Thanks for the recommendations, I always find bands with as many albums as Branikald intimating and I’ve been meaning to get into Branikald for a while now.

5:42 You hit the nail on the head by mentioning Barge Haulers on the Volga. This perfectly describes Branikald's atmosphere. It has this russian sorrow vibe through the entire discography. There is a russian song about those Barge Haulers: kzbin.info/www/bejne/f2TFnZxoqZljprcsi=6VDJmbL2MOYBNMt1 For example, there is a riff in Branikald's song "Evil-inspired Songs Of The Tragedies Of Centuries" that has exactly this russian vibe: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGG0gXeMr52DgK8si=4HPI-ZSKX_iBlreS&t=85

I agree heavily with Blikk av kald. Not many people seem to speak about it, even amongst people I know who I respect to be experienced black metal listeners and have listened to branikald. I've always found that album to be haunting and simply mesmerising.

Great band and probably the best circle in all of bm. Forest and Nitberg have always been my favorites but every band in the circle is amazing. I’m glad I finished collecting most of this circle’s material years ago. The prices have only gone through the roof and I’d imagine they’re only gonna get worse now with the exposure your videos will give them but hey, not my problem. Only one I still need to get is the last album from Kaldrad’s RAC band Vandal.

Love how the maximum resolution is 480p. Keeping it trve Branikald is such a legend although his music is too serious for my humble peasant taste

And looking back at what I have, I have a little from each era of Branikald as it turns out; Varg..., Kveldulv, Хмель мизантропии, Хладавзор, Струн натянутых..., and Тингов наслаждаясь распрей. Slowly tracking them down, though I'm having to settle for the "disputed" versions more often than not.
@radiofreeinnsmouth13377 ай бұрын
Glad you liked it! I'm not sure what the dispute is with the Ragnarok Records versions, but I did have to go with those for a couple of the later albums as it was kind of the only easily available versions of that stuff out there. I did manage to get a lot of the Totenkopf Propaganda and Stellar Winter ones off Discogs way back in the day when you could still buy stuff like that. I think my favorite bit of Blazebirth Hall merch I managed to get back in the day is the Grievantee Productions compilation of the first two Raven Dark albums, because it has a really long essay inside going into the philosophy and spirituality behind the music.
@alaskan_bergwanderer7 ай бұрын
@@radiofreeinnsmouth1337 Damn, that sounds awesome! I have a few of the Forest albums, as well as the reissue/official release? of the Wotan Sølv album as well. The rabbit hole runs deep, and I've plenty more to try and find in the BBH realm of releases..
@radiofreeinnsmouth13377 ай бұрын
With Forest I've got the 2009 Stellar Winter versions of Песнью в жатве горя and Обрекая надежду на вечность, but I always just called them the red one and the blue one cause one's got a red cover and one's got a blue cover. I would like to get their first two albums some day, as well as that Demonized Forests demo comp from a few years ago. That Wotan Sølv album is indeed pretty sick, but it always kind of confused me because the big essay in the Raven Dark reissue compilation always referred to that project as Wotansjolv instead of Wotan Sølv, so who knows, really?

BBH rules. Sick videos man. Do one on Spear of Longinus! Amazing band. Go onto the metal archives and read through the articles on his old website. Very interesting band with an even more interesting ideology behind it.

Blikk av Kald is the pinnacle of Black Metal. Easily his best work and his vocal peak, always get instant goosebumps on that "breakdown" part. Хмель мизантропии comes close though.

Since checking out some of the recommendations from the last episode, I’ve been listening to the older ambient Branikald a lot lately. There’s something so hauntingly meditative about them, I can’t listen to them without being completely consumed in their atmosphere. They’re perhaps the true successor to the early Burzum ambient tracks, in that despite their influence they cannot be replicated. Unrelated, are you at all a fan of Magnus? They’re probably one of my favorite bands in the death/thrash melting pot.

I've heard that Kaldrad painted all the Branikald album covers. I might've heard that from the earliest RFI Branikald episode. Anyone know about that? Also, any plan for an ep. on the infamous French horde once known as Funeral?
@radiofreeinnsmouth13377 ай бұрын
I'll probably do a Funeral episode some day, yeah. I believe most of the Branikald covers were painted by Sigrun who's married to Izverg from Dub Buk.
@matthewcarson37367 ай бұрын
No, his wife painted them. All except for the last albums from Branikald and Forest. Those were done by Njard who also designed the two bands’ logos.

Back in the day I could never take their bastardized Nowegian titles seriously. "Av vinterkald" translates into "Of being cold in the winter", not "of [the] wintry cold". But that aside, I agree with your point about it being a class of international dark music.
