Dave, if the aluminum foil works, a longer term more aesthetic solution is to use mirrored vinyl window applique. Inexpensive, just looks like a mirrored window in the daylight. And having tried to work through several large office windows with that stuff, it is damn near radio opaque, so it is blocking/ reflecting RF very nicely. FWIW. Water is the only "adhesive" used. No mess to remove it, just moisten it again.

I think a CMC or Common Mode Choke filter will help him a lot allready to get rid of his RFI problem. It's not expensive ... and the easiest way todo it ;) 73

I had a ground wire break in my mic cable once. It definitely made a mess of things.

That's good to know that aluminum foil will reflect RF energy. My shack and antenna balcony (currently under construction), are also on the 2nd floor but the walls of the house are covered with a 1 inch thick brick facade. Under the bricks are sheet aluminum panels shaped a bit like regular aluminum siding but they are only there to hold up the bricks. My 40/15 meter dipole antenna, once I finish erecting it, will be 3 meters away from my rig (and me) which is just close enough to give me some health-related RF proximity concerns. Does this mean that my house and shack, with its brick/sheet aluminum walls, will reflect enough RF energy away to protect me from excessive RF exposure?

The hamstick needs a "counterpoise." It won't work very well by itself.

Aluminum foil on a concrete floor and covered with a carpet will capacity couple into the rebar and the concrete, which is also an RF conductor. AC conduit boxes are also bonded to the steel frame and should be tied in. Antennas and modern electronics need to be kept as far apart as possible, gone are the days you could light a florescent lamp in the shack. Best practice is to do all tuning at the antenna, an ATU being a good solution. A 17 foot telescopic whip, tilted out works well with it.

LDG 1:1 unun is $30.00 ish.

Why I have a LDG 1:1 unun with 1 foot coax away from my tuner. To keep some noise and RF out of the house.
