Clear, organized presentation. The limitation on the number of colors was due to the amount of memory on the video card. The monitor would receive an analogue signal and know only the resolution, not number of colors. The web safe colors have stuck around for surprisingly long, while we zealously discard old formats. In 1999 I had an 8 MB video card and always used to true color on the desktop, so they date back a long time.

You mentioned highest number is 15 which can be converted into F and then you divide it to 16 instead of 15 ?why?
@homawccc8 ай бұрын
15 is the highest number of single hex digits (0-F) represented with one number or letter. However, since the number system starts with 0, there are 16 digits total in 0 through 15 including 0 in Hex, similar to the 0-9 actual single number digits used in a typical base-10 system.

What if there were four channels instead of three? Would that change the value of 255 or would it stay the same?
@homastudio455 ай бұрын
With 4 channels, (32 bit color), each channel would still have 255 as its highest value, but with an extra channel the amount of total color combinations would go from 16.7 million to over 4 billion potential combinations (255 to the 4th power). Most of the differences would be hard to discern by the human eye.
@shaungerald235 ай бұрын
@@homastudio45Interesting. What if you change it from 8 bits to 6 bits? That way it still equals 24? Would that affect anything? Thanks for the response.
@shaungerald235 ай бұрын
@@homastudio45 Does 255 have to be the highest value? Couldn't it be lowered to compensate for the added channel? In my mind, we're splitting up the current color wheel into four sections instead of three. Giving you the same amount of colors just with four channels instead of three. Like 256^3=16,777,216 color options but so does 64^4... So instead of 255 being the highest value, couldn't it be lowered to 63 for each channel essentially having the same outcome of colors?

Can anyone please tell how to know the rgb values of a paint colour. Paint companies have a unique colour code for every paint. For example Bright batic 4P 0259. How to know the RGB value of this colour . Please help !
@homawccc4 жыл бұрын
RGB is screen (pixel) while paint is more like ink. If you are looking to match a paint color to RGB, I would first find a CMYK or Pantone ink spot color equivalent using a Pantone Swatch book and match it by eye. Then use PS or Illustrator to give you an RGB equivalent.

Thanks for explaining all that! But I have a question about TVs and limited RGB. If full RGB is 16.7 million colors, then how many colors is limited RGB?
@homawccc4 жыл бұрын
I would guess around 10 million max based on a range of 16-235/color. I don't have a lot of experience with limited RGB, but here's some articles that explain it in more detail: referencehometheater.com/2014/commentary/rgb-full-vs-limited/ www.neogaf.com/threads/full-rgb-v-s-limited-rgb-a-comparison-and-guide.1248012/

Great video but 0x17 cannot be pronounced 'seventeen'.
@homawccc4 жыл бұрын
That is correct. It should technically not be pronounced "seventeen", since it is not referring to an actual value of 17, but only appears as "17". I will often use the "read as written" format for communicating hex values (as colors), such as saying "ninety-nine, seventeen, zero-A" when indicating the color #99170A.
@CliveReyes4 жыл бұрын
Richard Homa we should come up with 6 new names for the numbers A-F and popularize them and use a new base-16 counting system, this way we won’t even have to note that we’re talking about a hexadecimal number as it would be implied in the name.
