I believe wiring shown @3:59 is incorrect. According to PxMatrix docs the green wire between PIn and POut should be from B1 (B0) to G2 (G1) and you got it drawn hooked to POut's E (4th pin in 2nd column), instead of 3rd pin.

The flickering is caused by the shutter rate of the camera. If you are using a camera where you can play with shutter speed you need to try to match it to the flicker of the LEDs. More advanced cameras like my gh4 have a feature called synchro scan where you can adjust the shutter angle to the degree instead of the normal click jump up and down.

this is an old video but thank you regardless. Surprisingly it almost worked for me. when i run the example Pixel time however the bottom half of the text is cut off. I am not sure what my issue is. I have definitely checked and the E pin is actually ground so i removed that pin. I checked the others tho and they are no ground. I also think i found my pinout but it's impossible to know. I am using a nodemcu v3. I triple checked the pins being assigned to lat, a, b, c, d, and OE and they are all correct. but the example code does not seem to mention CLK anywhere and i have it plugged into D5 could that be causing my issue? Another thing i noticed is the G1 which is presume is Green1? is running to R2 on the output? is that correct? I figured G1 would go to G1 etc. Thank you if you decide to reply it would mean a lot!

Thanks for the project Brian. My LED Matrix, which is same as yours, works great but when I use it for instance to get Bitcoin price online, it flickers when ESP8266HTTPClient library is using the GET function, for the entire duration (1-2 seconds). Any idea why this could be, and how I can make the transition from one value to the next smooth and flicker-free? Could it be a faulty ESP8266 or power supply? Everything works great otherwise. Cheers mate!
@vinny142 Жыл бұрын
just in case anybody else reads this: the RGB panel doesn't have internal memory, the ESP8266 has to constantly provide the state for each of the LED's. if you make the controller do something that prevents it form updating the screen fast enough then you'll get flicker. Given the price of ESP8266 and even ESP32 today you could try using a second ESP just to control the matrix and do the heavy stuff on another.
@movingpictures93086 жыл бұрын
Hey Brian, I could need some advise for a Project. My plan is to get some ws2812b led strips and this panel and hook them up so that I can control them via WiFi. What boards do you recommend for that? I only have experience with Arduino, so It would be best if they work in a similar way. I thought I'd get 2 of the wemos D1 mini(one for the panel and one for the led strips) and then connect both to my home network to control them with my phone for example. What do you think?
@BrianLough6 жыл бұрын
D1 mini would be perfect for that yeah, it's very similar to a regular Arduino other than WiFi stuff. I recommend getting a logic level shifter as sometimes there is issues controlling ws2812b leds with a 3.3v signal. Check out "mclighting", it is a sketch for an esp8266 that has a web interface for controlling ws2812bs
@movingpictures93086 жыл бұрын
Brian Lough oh, yeah I totally forgot that the D1 only outputs 3.3v. From what I have seen in other videos I can connect the wemos to my home network and then just need to type in it's IP address in my web browser (which I can make an app for) to trigger stuff on the wemos, right? I just found an old computer power supply which says Output:5V/25A, gonna use that on for my project.

Hey Brian, thanks for the help, I actually got it working. However, I wanna do something similar to the Banana Dance but with 19 frames, since the memory can't handle that I wanted to do it via flash, is that possible? And how would I do that?
@BrianLough5 жыл бұрын
I've never tried it, but for the frames, instead of keeping arrays of uint16 to store the colours of every pixel, you could store every colour that appears in the frames in one array , and then change the frames to be arrays of unit8 that are made up of index's to the colour array. This, in theory, should allow you to double the amount of frames you can have.
@GreenOnionBrother5 жыл бұрын
@@BrianLough thanks, but I actually found a better way using "const uint16_t **********[] PROGMEM =" and then "drawFrame(const uint16_t *frame)" and "display.drawPixel(xx, yy, pgm_read_word(&frame[counter]));" Works well enough.

Here is an example of an animated image, its literally just showing different images one after another. Hope this helps! github.com/witnessmenow/LED-Matrix-Display-Examples/blob/master/LED-Matrix-Banana-Dance-Display/LED-Matrix-Banana-Dance-Display.ino

Would it be possible to make this portable??
@BrianLough5 жыл бұрын
Yes, but it all really all depends on how many LEDs are on. All LEDs on and white it uses 3Amps-4Amps. If you are showing something that doesn't need to light all the LEDs even a usb power bank would work

@@BrianLough I tweeted you about a portable project so we can discuss on there in the direct messages if possible.

I'm not sure you tweeted me? @witnessmenow I don't normally like discussing things in DM, no one else can benefit from the conversation. Can you provide more details on it?

@@BrianLough its more of a business proposition for you. I coach American football out here in California and am in need of a handheld portable LED sign that can simply project either '10' '11' '21' TE 10' '20' 'TE 20' and a couple other signals at the push of a button so that we can more efficiently change in and out of personnel groups. It is similar to the LED sign they use in major league soccer games but I do not need it that big or with any thing other than the simple LED lights. It would only need to be 64 x 64 I'm guessing in order to be seen across the field.

You don’t need 6 Amps, I drive it with a regular USB 5V charger which is only about 1amp .

When recording this video I just went with what adafruit recommended. In general 1 amp is far too small for a 64x32 display. Since this video I've measured the draw and all LEDs white it uses 2.5 amps kzbin.info/www/bejne/f5LYcphqib-eadE 1 amp might be ok if your project doesn't use a lot of LEDs, but it's not something that should be generally recommended
