They induce emotions and the interactivity of it all particularly lends to creating better and more nuanced emotional experiences. It’s why the gameplay loop in TLOU 2 (while designed to absolute perfection), is not intended to be fun. You’re not having fun. You’re scrounging for survival in a no holds barred world. I agree, my biggest issue is Jordan Mun's attitude. Even if she looked the same but acted more mature, I would find her more appealing as a character. I think the 80s/anime stuff feels like surface level nostalgia-bait more than anything else and I find that off-putting as well. On the flip side, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross doing the musical score will result in good music at least.

It’s not the look of the character that’s making people mad. It’s the connotation that comes with making characters who look like this under certain writers/studios. Everytime we see a smug, snarky, angsty female character with a weird haircut, it makes people think of Batwoman, She-Ra, Captain Marvel, and any other character who has the archetype that’s written terribly. Naughty Dog and specifically Neil Druckmann has been going out of their way to make things off putting to the audience, and it results in them handling it terribly. So people can’t be upset when we see something very reminiscent of other terrible media in a ND game. Just feels like it’s possible that it can happen again here. And I hope it doesn’t, because I love this aesthetic

As soon as I saw “black woman with shaved head” I knew the grifters would be going crazy. Guess after TLoU2 that’s just what Naughty Dog has to deal with so I hope they’ve grown some thick skin after that cause the discourse over this game for the next few years is gonna be nauseating. I basically have no opinion on it atm because it’s kinda hard to with what little has been shown. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross on scoring duties is pretty hype I will say, and as a fan of both Akira and Cowboy Bebop I’ll be interested to see how that influence supposedly comes together.

Im not going to buy a game just because a certain studio is attached to it. If a studio wants me to buy a game then they need to market it in a way that compels me to buy it and this trailer did not do that for me at all. THEY have to convince me to buy it....not review scores, not hype, but they themselves. As of right now, Im completely apathetic about this game. The same people who are saying a trailer is not indicative of the final game are praising it already as an infallible masterpiece because it’s coming from Naughty Dog. We only have to look at the Last of Us Part II and the current tropes in the “movie game” landscape to see where this is going. It's unfortunate, but there is an over correction that will continue to happen. For so many years, people got attacked, doxed, censored, etc, for speaking out. Now it's over correction time, and the people that did the censoring are going to have to deal with it good or not.
