Looking back at this rivalry commercial, it really was a crazy time when great consoles were at a war. As someone who grew up with the SNES but still played Genesis games and no matter how many times I do play Super Mario World and Sonic 1, I don't have a definite side. Genesis may have Blast Processing, lower cost, and a decent larger library, but you can't beat the overall quality the Super NES had when Nintendo was at its prime. Loved both consoles and missed the '90s.

​​@@snichelsticks8653 its less about the law and more about conpanies generally having a stick up their ass when it comes to fair use. comparative advertising falls under fair use today, but if a game explicitly compares itself to another game in advertising (especially nintendo) theyll get a lawsuit. and even though they are legally in the right and would probably win the case, that case will get dragged thru court and cost a LOT of money. From a business standpoint it just saves time and money to keep other companies games out of your mouth when advertising your own.

So bit refers to the size of data used in input and output (like pipes) of a computers brain (called the CPU) and it's related hardware. They are used for game logic, drawing images/sprites and colours and controller inputs. Thus the more bits the more things can happen in a game and more complex games you can make. In the past we really only had the CPU doing all the hard work. Now it doesn't matter because we have specialised chips to do certain tasks e.g. GPU = Graphic Card for drawing graphics on a screen. NPU = chip for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning tasks like what chess move to perform, and of course the good old CPU which is the brain of everything has less work these days.

Great commercial. Luckily for me I grew up playing both SNES and Genesis. While there are a lot of things I like about Genesis though I definitely preferred SNES with the better controller and generally better games like Mario, Zelda, Kirby, Metroid and more. Sega had Sonic and a few others but besides Sonic they didn't stand out as much to me

I had been way too hyped for the release of the Super NES to be swayed by this commercial in 1991, but the very next year in October of ‘92, I stole $50 out of the purse of a high school friend of my mother’s to buy a Sega Genesis. Hopefully Sonic is just as fun when played in Hell, cuz that is where I’ll be playing it for eternity.

The point of Sonic 1's level design is to earn your speed. It's specifically designed to be played over and over again so a player can get better at it and plan ahead. And Marble Zone and Labyrinth Zone were thrown in on the assumption that players would get overwhelmed by a game that was just non-stop speed. (Yuji Naka actually got motion sickness from early builds of Sonic 1 because it was sooooo fast, so I kindof see where they're coming from)
