WEDGE HORSEPOWER

Күн бұрын

After 14 months of finding/collecting/cleaning/rebuilding/and modifying, my Suzuki VJ21 Sports Production big bore project is up and running.
This is the first 5-10 minutes of run time the engine has had so far.
Next will be off the table now that I know everything is working as it should so far.
Then onto the road testing, and break in procedure
Initially built to use at the Bonneville Salt Flats for the 2020 season, things didn't go as planned and the project lost momentum.
Built with lights now so I can play on the streets instead.

Curious what you mean by welded the crank in them, do you know anyone that can do this? It be worth every penny to have an RGV without crank issues...
@fenceacefreeze3046

Literally welded crank together so it cldnt twist.i had a love affair with these 2 strokes from when I was a child through to now at 15 I got my first 89 rgv went like a rocket for 1 day then crank troubles started.ran good for a day then shit for a week.we did that many engines it used to take me 2 hrs to take engine out rebuild and put back in done.nsr was crank seals leaky crank but much more reliable.but with welded crank I did 2 race season with many practical and test days with 2 piston and rings changes as maintance weren't even nessasary on the Aprilia RS 02 fix that crank and U got awesome bike I'll try find some pics of a welded crank for u.we race in 250 production so we also cut the standard exhaust apart gutted the insides welded them back to get her no other changes Standard jetting.oh ya and drilled standers pistons in middle for small amount of Wight and to balance them .same weight.66 HP on dyno at rear wheel lost some midrange but hay when are U ever in the midrange with an rgv.now nsr much Easyer to ride huge midrange but can't go with rgv up top. Now tzr that's another story what a bike.

@@fenceacefreeze3046 Thanks for the info and really enjoyed the read :) I share your love of 2 strokes, I'm guessing from ur experience ur 51 and not 15, not far behind myself ;) I'll do some more homework on welding rgv cranks that's awesome.

Nice hop up but I think putting the 500 square four engine in mine was the better option..However I'm still far from complete as the bikes unrideable beyond 200kph..more time needed in the man cave😆😆😆

I had just did a full rebuild of my RZV500R before I started on this RGV project. Initially I was going to get a RG500 motor out of Japan when I was importing my TZR250RSP in. But the RZV burned me out on 4 cylinder 2 strokes. And the complexity of welding new engine mounts in, making room for the kick start, and making sure I could get pipes built to fit whatever type of tail section I would need to build, caused me to take a slightly easier route with a TT/F3 version RGV. Less power perhaps than a 500 with equal tuning time, but also considerably lighter.

Sir, must be stupid fast! did you have to convert to drug clutch? what size lectrons am i seeing..I have a stock VJ22 and looking to derestrict, would you recommend Zeeltronic ? And what pipes to go with !
@wedgehorsepower9869
@wedgehorsepower9869 3 жыл бұрын
I used the dry clutch because there is no drag from the clutch hub going through oil, and it has straight cut primaries which was also preferred over standard transmission/clutch....more HP. The Lectrons are 38mm, and I would recommend the Zeel to give a smooth horsepower curve when putting on better pipes. I prefer Sugaya, but they are no longer produced...second pipe choice would be Jolly Moto.

@@wedgehorsepower9869 Great you have the best collection. Loving your videos and style of work@music. I have two bikes in transit Canadian RZ500 and 91 RGV250 and both are stock bikes. I am in California, learning about these bikes and have to be prepared to get the best out of them. Spoke to Brian Turfrey for the RZ500 pipes and he got a huge backlog. I will definitely need set of carbs and pipes for RGV and RZ500. Are these special kind of Lectrons just made for the RGV250 ? Is the bike street rideable with lectrons?
@wedgehorsepower9869
@wedgehorsepower9869 3 жыл бұрын
@@rocket2811 The Lectrons were ordered to fit the specifics of my 300 big bore engine. I am still tuning the Lectrons, but rain and cold have kept it in the garage for over a week. The close ratio trans is not in town street friendly. Jolly Moto pipes would be the easiest and best for both bikes. If the RGV is a Japanese home market bike, you can use Aprilia RS250 34mm carbs and ignition to unrestrict it, along with the pipes

I have not had much luck tuning the Lectrons...also you need Veronesi intakes to make carbs sit right. The bike made good top end power, but I could not get the bottom and midrange right. After 4 different needles, I have made a decision to go back to 34Mikuni's Look for me on the RGV UK forum

Hi what kind of lectron carburetor do you suggest for a VJ 22 I have already replaced the complete exhaust, control unit, cylinder heads, dry gearbox, currently I have 2 carb. 40mm thanks gianfranco
@wedgehorsepower9869
@wedgehorsepower9869 2 жыл бұрын
I used 38mm carbs. I believe they were just too big and cold not get it to run good throughout the entire RPM range. I put the 34 Mikuni's back on with airbox and bike feels better now.

Hello, I would like to know if the two valve piston (bells) of the carburetors open the same? The carburetor valve piston (bell) on the left opens slightly earlier than the right. It's possible??
@wedgehorsepower9869
@wedgehorsepower9869 2 жыл бұрын
The slides both open at the exact same time in the same amount of travel. If they are not synchronized, one cylinder will be getting more air and fuel than the other.

Hi, was the conversion to Lectron troublesome? Was it a bolt up and play affair or did you have to do some modifications? What about the choke cables? Do you think these would work on a stock 250? Was Lectron helpful? Did you consider Smart Carb? What about the airbox?
@wedgehorsepower9869
@wedgehorsepower9869 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was troublesome I had to make new cables and had to have special intakes made. An airbox would have to be made, but not much room to make a good one considering the different carb placement I spent some time on a dyno, with numerous needles, and finally decided to put stock carbs and airbox back on. Expensive experiment

That was the original intention. Stock has 34 Mikuni's, and the Lectrons are 38mm Initially the bike was going to be built for top speed runs, but Covid changed the plans and the bike became a street bike instead.
