For everyone commenting and saying they hate this arrangement: you guys have to understand that Tokyo Kosei is basically a pop music band. They perform stuff to entertain regular audiences, which is why they don't often do "serious" or "modern" stuff like Husa, Maslanka, Persichetti, etc. This arrangement is totally in character for them.

Kosei frequently does stuff like that

What are you talking about? Its not for them, its an accepted arrangement through out the wind orchestra society - played in many different official contests accross the globe!

this version is so well done. played really well in honour of the original song but given the tokyo kosei feel to it! really like this version for what it is.

I've binged on every variation I can find of Naohiro Iwai 's arrangement of Rhapsody in Blue and *no one* comes close to the Tokyo Kosei orchestra. For all of the elitists whining because this version isn't yet another hyper-restored rendition, lighten up. It's just a fun film-like rendition and deserves praise on its own merits. If you want to get an idea of what you're dissing, just listen to 90% of the other orchestras absolutely butchering Iwai's arrangement. Tokyo Kosei is the only one I've found that makes the aggressive tempo change after the opening clarinet solo, and it makes the difference between sheer pain and an energetic rendition. Plus, you're getting a clean, absolutely professional performance here.

Brilliant, the updating really fits in to the swing era style that new york has embodied!!!!

Here it is, a Tokyo Kosei version of the crown jewel of any clarinetist skilled enough to play it. I really like this jazzier version of the piece, but the original will always be better. Still, I love this piece. Good job on making this more modern, Tokyo Kosei wind orchestra.

Lighten up. Some of us enjoy the big band interpretation that Naohiro Iwaii brought to Gershwin's classic. There's a place in this world for both. The only insult here is the presence of outright music snobbery.
