Rhasidat Adeleke finished fourth in the fastest 400m Olympic final of all time, missing out on a medal in her debut Games.
Mikey Stafford is joined by Jessie Barr and Raf Diallo from the bowels of the Stade de France to analyse the final won by Marileidy Paulino of the Dominican Republic.
Jessie puts some perspective of the scale of the achievement and the level of competitors she was facing, while Raf gives us a sense of what it was like to watch an Irish woman contend in an Olympic sprint final.
We also hear from the woman herself, who was disappointed to miss out on a medal.
There is a boost for the 4x400m relay team however, who will welcome Adeleke into the team for Saturday's final - the final event of the Olympics track meet.

Rhasidat ran a great race. 2028 is looking good. I must say, as an Aussie, many of our Silvers could have been Gold, our Bronzes could have been Silver, and so many Aussies came 4th when they could have won a Bronze. There are chances and half-chances in events that missed. The Olympics are brutal!

Great podcasts really enjoyed and very informative thank you. Yesterday's 400m Women's Final was the fastest 400m Olympic final in history never before in an Olympic final has the 1,2,3 all finished under 49 seconds

Rhasidat, after overcoming natural personal disappointment, will learn so much more from this final than her peers in that final. She will be a much more serious force in LA, no doubt. Ireland is so proud regardless.🙂

Rashedt Adeleke was brilliant!!! To put it into context, Rashedt was beaten by Two World champions and the European Champion by 400s of a second, the last 30 meters killed her. Watch out LA 28!!! She has the Relay!!!

I have been watching the Irish team for about a year now and they have been doing fantastic. As an American sprinter who switched from the 100 to the 400, I agree that she just needs more experience running a very complex race such as the 400. When that happens, I believe you will see her drop below 49 seconds.

Phil Healy's split today was 51.88 and it was 51.51 in Euro final, so she'll be hoping for similar (or better) tomorrow. If we go under 3:22 gives great chance of medal and might be a bit of a surprise if we don't go under 3:22

In the 400m race the Bronze medal winners in the last six Olympics posted times of 49.46, 49.85, 49.72, 49.93, 49.89, 49.72 and Adeleke had a better time tonight in 4th (49.28)

She should have ran for 3rd . The polish girl ran for that position and got it . She can achieve her ambition eventually providing she ignores these " experts"

Yes but she should listen to some rando on the internet telling her not to try too hard or go for gold 🙄
@eirenuaireland

@@Ineddiblehulk never go for gold when bronze is the best outcome. Don't believe the hype . Notice how this lady said her brother " deserved " a medal. You must earn what you get . I have no doubt she will come again... provided she becomes more American and less RTE

@@eirenuairelandyes because Olympians achieve their goals by not striving to be the best, but settling for mediocrity and taking advice from opinionated armchair experts on the internet.
@eirenuaireland
@eirenuaireland Ай бұрын
@@Ineddiblehulk her goal was a medal . 400 meter races should be broken into smaller parts of a bigger picture. Her last 100 meters ... particularly the last 50 were where the race was lost . Barr talking about " deserving " something won't distract her from the need to apply cold analysis to the performance. I have no doubt that she won't listen to the spoofers using terms like " Randos" and " armchairs" . Those idiot types are usually bots . She's much better than that . She's a potential winner
