@@xcalibertrekker6693 I don't think you know much about cost. I'm no expert myself but its easy to see that this thing is cheap to produce, use cheap ammunition compared to very costly missiles, can engage more targets before its out of ammunition compared to a missile system, is easier and safer to transport than a missile system, easier to reload and store ammunitions. Since it looks cheap and seems effective you could field more of these things too. I'm not saying this is the best anti-drone platform but it seems like a good solution.

As an FPV drone pilot, I can assure you, as advanced and novel as this platform is, a skilled pilot flying at high speed a few feet off the ground would devastate this unit in one or two attempts. As the video stated, it was successful against class two and three UAVs, but failed at class 1, that being small, nimble FPV drones with explosive payloads. FPV pilots now own the battlefield

This is the problem I'm seeing with it. Effective range was out to 800m. But drones are small enough that you can shoot them down with just about any cartridge. So really it's only got slightly more range than a rifle strapped to a robotic turret, which is probably effective out to at least 400m. Except you could probably buy 10 rifles strapped to turrets for the price of this thing. so effectively you could control a much larger area for less money with the rifles. The benefit of this thing is that you could shoot down full size aircraft with it too. But if it's just drone defense, I don't really see it as a big win.

Oh my fucking god, can people never let that dumb concept go? It could fire low pressure, low velocity rounds, at high rates of fire. Yes. But it would never have the range of something like this, because all of the bullets are slow as fuck. Improving the velocity of the bullets, reduces the amount of ammunition available in any burst. The barrels could only hold what? 6-8 bullets in a stack, and if you need to fire 2 layers to ensure a kill, that means to only have 3-4 "shots" before you need to reload, and replace the entire barrel assembly, which will weigh a hell of a lot. People keep getting hung up on the whole rate of fire part of the idea, but fail to actually look at any of the glaringly obvious issues with the concept, or...just never understood how it worked to begin with.

Not when you drop 60 dummy drones along with 4 live drones that fly the same way spreading over a large enough area together to demand individual targeting until they engage at close range. Not when the entire package is taken out after exhausting it's ammo. And certainly not when whatever it is protecting is taken out shortly thereafter.

It was only a matter of time. Now all of the technology is being used for warfare.

i wonder how efficient these could be made if you used a propellant feed system and a much smaller projectile. i.e. electrically/pneumatically driven caseless 3.5mm or some such. you could really bring the cost down... well maybe even 4.5 or 5.7. nothing on a drone is going to stop that
@leonlowenstadter922319 күн бұрын
When going down to smaller projectiles it would (costwise) make sense to use a standard size that is used in other weapon systems, too - like 7.62mm NATO standard. As drones can be up to 2 meters (or larger) in size, I guess the idea is that just one single hit almost gurantees to takes down the drone. In the video, it looks like 80% or more of the shots are missing the target.

Can they not just add the gun system to the next batch of tanks or have it as a towable?

I don't really get why it's mounted on a moveable platform with that low range. Would make more sense as last defense on a high value target like military base or government building or anything like that. You can't be far away from the potential targeted location when your range is that low.

Why are pantsirs on a wheeled platform. For dual purpose. Just like this. This 100% would be used closer to the Frontline where you don't want a 25 million dollar aa system getting blown up. This is cheaper and will still do an effective job with a not having to lose valuable assets.

Why would a drone need to fire tracers if it has advanced targeting censors?

And this is what they show us. Ukraine has evolved these machines much further than what we see in this video.
@nedkelly968819 күн бұрын
lmfao Ukraine got the tech from us,, weird how they been fighting Russia since 2014 and never used drones or anti drone systems, then we the West gave them our systems and now they copy or you all think it is theirs.. Australia has over 3 anti drone systems used in Ukraine and over 4 of the most advanced AI drones in the world and one fmous cardboard wax drone.. Ukraine just copied our aid we sent lmfao....

Low cost per engagement can't be established if it isn't disclosed and compared to deployment costs and loss rates. We haven't seen swarms of dummy drones used with or preceding live drones yet have we? A dummy drone's real world deployment costs could be a lot cheaper than the real world engagement costs on this.

low cost compared to what ? a missile at $500k? is it $5 a shot or $500 ? does the system cost $ 10 million? would be nice to hear some parameters.

Why 7.62x51? It is a SLOWER round and it's range to transonic velocity is no better than the 5.56x45mm round. In typical GPMG and sniper applications it is preferred because it remained more lethal to humans at range. But, with drones and the like, the power of the round is irrelevant. Hit a 22LR hit will wreck whatever is impacted. The 5.56 gives you over twice the ammo for the same weight, a higher velocity projectile and low cost per round.
@knowahnosenothing486217 күн бұрын
.556 is higher velocity. XM556 might be a better option.
@dwightlooi17 күн бұрын
@knowahnosenothing4862 With 20 or 24" barrels to maximize velocity instead of the 10 or 16", but that should be an easy change.

1 second burst costing 5k probably+ all other related costs. Curious about how many it could realistically take down at once within the time it takes to cross 750m.
@ripvanwinkle200218 күн бұрын
im curious how many ground objects that stray rounds are going to hit. drones fly low.. so imagine one flying at say 5 feet high whizzes by, into your rear area.. this thing is gonna track those rounds right into you people and stuff
