Check out Chris Webb's question-heavy thesis on the Church and Christianity in this popular culture society. It rarely gets as deeply introspective as this. His piece is a personal and collective spiritual assessment of how we really live our lives as believers. What message do our lives communicate? What truth do we believe? Is the God of the Bible the God we really serve?
This is Chris Webb at #RHETORIC2017 sharing his piece entitled, "Backlight".

“And when I became a Christian I signed up to be hated, the problem recently is been we have not been despised for the right reason” That line is fire 🔥 the poem is unreal. Chris Webb articulates his point across so well!

I have recently taken a liking to Chris Webb. He’s style of writing and topics brings a conscious reminder of the gospel to our minds. Poetry/spoken word can be taken for granted and perceived as just entertainment. Poets bearing their souls and experiences; why the audience just watch and occasionally through shared experiences understand the shoes of said individual. Chris’s pieces (the ones I have come across so far) are like a call to action, a reminder of what we as Christians are called to do in those moments where for a split second we forget; sit down, ready to be entertained.

Man I have a friend just like that and she was baptized on the same day as me now she believes in astrology this issue is so real God the God of the Bible who is great enough to create the earth in 7 days the same God who made us for His glory , but we rejected such purpose and reason for being and He's the same God who for his sake died paying the debt sin which is death when He died on the cross.

Flat out I Loved it. Also I loved your complexity and you tackled some of the real problems and silent problems and thoughts that people and us Christians think in our heads, but never tackle. I Love that you brought all of this forth and you said it in a very complex way, but you tackled it man. Answering questions with questions. Making us think as we listen to your poem and a lot of rhetorical ones.

Brother, you are a great speaker, and have wonderful and powerful poems. However this poem is off point and on of understanding; mostly lacking understanding. I'll only point out that prosperity point was very good. The condemnation was really good, I was would have called it man creating laws to condemnation as the Law is, and is still doing with folks wanting to get back to get back to it. Lastly grace churches. This one is incorrect and lacking understanding. If the grace message is being taught correctly this is God's greatest power for believers to overcome sin. I will say to you check out graceage.org and this will be a wake up call for all believers wanting to get closer to Christ.

mabblers yeah I wonder if people realize: There’s no such thing as too much grace. Many are scared to fully embrace God, still thinking that somehow they should make themselves more worthy- as if they could. We can’t. At the same time I wonder if some churches are shallow, not equipped/aware/willing to communicate the cost of following Christ. Just some thoughts. I have a hard time gathering them and articulating them on such a small screen, so I apologize if that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Grace and peace

You are correct brother, thanks be Jesus who has made us the rightousness God in Christ, and saintified us, and given us all spiritual blessing to live the sonship life with His awesome power of grace. Check out the site I mentioned and you'll why what Chris was saying wasn't totally correct and learn a tremendous amount of what 99.9% of churches aren't sharing to the members. Prepare to be blown away and shocked and happy you then would understand. Peace and grace.

@mabblers I think you missed his point.I fully understand what he says because too often I see Christians taking God's for granted and using it as an excuse to justify their sinful lifestyles.I believe you're right too but not in this light.Graces isn't a cover up and shouldn't be treated as such.

The bible is too flawed and too tampered with for me to take Christianity seriosly anymore. I was raised Christian but the research on it in my adulthood turned me away from religion and more into spirituality. As he mocked in the poem...i do believe religion was made to enslave and seperate us. There is a God but humans have mad so many versions of God to seprate eachother till its next go impossible to figure out which religion is right. Spirituality is what our ancestors practices till europeans gave us christianity. How am i supposed to believe in this? I need help

testnowhehe my guy, I wish I could answer all your questions, but the KZbin comment section isn’t the best format for dialogue. Know this though, there is truth out there, & there are answers. If God was smart enough & powerful enough to create the world and everything in it, then of course He was smart enough to inform us about Him in a book and sustain throughout the course of time. Honestly put the Bible to the test and you will see.

Seek and keep seeking.Knock and keep knocking. Ask and keep asking. Christ did not come to bring religion in fact he came to reconcile us All to God. I you believe in the sovereign God then you must believe he will truly reveal himself to those who seek him. However please don’t discredit the Bible. Instead ask God to reveal himself to you. How will you know Truth without a mirror for it. The problem with spirituality is that it is peppered and flawed by our desires. It is jaded by our human condition. Forget religion. Ask God the Father to reveal himself and Christ, by the power of his Holy Spirit.

remember Christianity is not a religion but faith. don t be religious, be faithful and trust in his word. the word Christian was a name to mock on who we believed in making us God like. we are not God, but we strive everyday day even though we make mistakes. don t let demons make your mind wonder what if.., know your lord and his strength

testnowhehe Hello dear...The Bible is not flawed. it is humans that are flawed. The Bible is God's very Word; and just like anything good, people tend to misuse the Word, misinterpret, misquote or even add to it, just for their own gain. I pray we would learn to study the Word for ourselves, rather than waiting for hand-me-downs from preachers. God gave us all His Holy Spirit as a helper and teacher. John 14:26, John 15:26 and Romans 8:14 shows us that The Holy Spirit comes to reveal to us the very nature of God. He also helps us to discern right from wrong. Pray and seek God. Pray for the Holy Spirit to give you understanding of the Word. Please close your mind from all the different man-made doctrines that have been released by the enemy to confuse Christians. Let your standard be the Bible. 1 John 4:1 admonishes us to test all spirits. Remember that the enemy has an agenda to distract the Children of God from the Truth. Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6), The Word of God is Jesus(John 1), therefore the Word of God is TRUTH. The fact that people are misunderstanding or minsinterpersting Scripture does not invalidate it. The same way we don't write everything off because there are bad examples. The enemy's tactic in the last days, which we are in right now, is to confuse Christians by bringing counterfeit doctrines. he started in the garden of Eden when He disputed the very instruction God gave Eve. he also tried to twist the scriptures in his encounter with Jesus Christ in the wilderness. But Jesus countered him with the TRUE word which is the Word in its right context and interpretation. The enemy wants to distract us from the Truth because he is the father of all lies, and his agenda is to steal, kill and destroy us. And as crafty as he is, he has come as a wolf in sheep clothing to deceive the sheep of God. He is now using preachers and so called spiritulalists to turn people against the TRUE gospel of Christ. So please let's be vigilant. "But you are children of God, and you have overcome them. For He that is in you is greater than he who is in the World" (1 John 4:4) Please read from vs 1-4 as well. Do not be discouraged my dear. these scriptures already prophesied all that is happening now....Jude(the whole chapter), 2 Peter 2, 1 cor 1:18-31, 2 Tim 3:10-17, 1 Tim 6. Be encouraged. Am with you in prayers ❤❤❤
