When I was in elementary, kids were dating. I'm not even kidding. And they said stuff like "I love you." On like the first day of fifth grade, we were "Bus Buddies", with the first graders, to help them find their buses. Well, my FIRST GRADE buddy (6 years old) was bragging about something, so I walk over to her, and I hear her say: "OMG GUYS IT'S ONLY TH FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL AND I ALREADY HAVE A BOYFRIEND!!!" with a sassy voice. Honestly, I agree with them. When you're at that age, (12, 13, 14) You just won't get the concept of being commited to a relationship. I see middle schoolers dating all the time, and it only lasts maybe a month to two months (This doesnt apply to EVERYONE, but alot of middle school couples.) I think you should start dating when A. You want to be commited. B. You have the time for a relationship. C. You don't date just to date. You do it cause you want to find "the one" or whatever. (This one kind of goes back to A.) I guess maybe neither of us understand how someone at that age COULD be in a committed relationship. We are now, but we're 20. It took us pretty much 8 years to find a committed partner. So how could a middle schooler understand what it means to be committed? And maybe that's one of the reasons girls are getting pregnant so early. The thought of a committed relationship leads to babies in the end, right? Just like adults do and what we see on TV all the time. I don't think middle schoolers should "date". I'm in high school and I had one girlfriend in seventh grade. From that one experience, I could tell that I do not want a relationship until I know I'm emotionally mature enough to handle it. It was the biggest disappointment of my life to have been in that relationship. It was awkward to talk to the girl about anything, so the whole relationship was composed of going to school events and shit together. One night when I was laying in bed, I had this great epiphany. I realized that I wasn't even enjoying the time we had together. I literally had just fallen into a routine with her and stuck to it. It dawned on me that I would rather be doing so many things than sitting around with her trying to start a conversation. She didn't seem hurt by the break up, so I assume she felt the same way.

Take things slow and remember that boys will mature slower than girls. That's why it is often so that girls date boys older than them. I'm older than my girlfriend and I still feel she is more mature than me the majority of the time, and that's coming from a college student with a girlfriend in highschool. If you really believe you're ready to date someone and consider marriage, think about the time that you'll have to stay in the non-marital relationship before marriage. That time will account for a lot of possible stress because you may mature into a close relationship ready for marriage but you may not be financially stable to get married. That's my current situation after being in a relationship for 3 1/2 years. I'm in college and in debt and while I'm ready to marry my girlfriend, neither of us are financially secure enough to accept a wedding as a wise decision at this time. So just think things through and take it slow.

I understand where your coming from, but We as middle schoolers and high schoolers don't know what love is. I know that sounds stereotypical, buts its a fact. you may be in "love" but after your middle school romance is over it will crush you. and yes its very awkward, you don't know what your doing or what your getting yourself into. I feel that dating is middle school is more of labels and games. being a girl that's mainly how it is, the majority of the girls in my school make dating a competition and a game, they don't "love" you because they don't understand that emotion and feeling. I pray for your friend, because sadly one day when he dumps her or she dumps him, things wont be pretty and it will change him... Tweens and teens just are emotionally mature or stable to be considering or worrying about these types of things. In middle school, I was having some problems with depression and anxiety. I thought having a girlfriend was what I needed to show everyone that I wasn't a joke and to make me happy, so I asked a girl out, and she said yes to me. I found out that she cut herself, and that led me to believe that it was OK for me to express my depression through these kinds of activities, so I became anorexic because I was overweight at the time. In a few months, my life was literally ruined because I had a girlfriend in middle school. If you're reading this, trust me. A girlfriends isn't necessarily what you want or need. If you are in middle school, you have so much going on emotionally right now that it probably isn't the best decision...

Like, the other day I was talking to a friend of mine and I don't remember how the conversation was brought up, but I do recall saying, "I've never had my first kiss." and the look on his face was PRICELESS. He stared at me like I had four heads. "You've never had your first kiss?!" he asked me and I just nodded my head. "Or a boyfriend." I added and he just laughed. "I've had like sixty-three first kisses and girlfriends." and I looked at him surprised after he said that. But then he told me it was normal. N O R M A L. Really?! He's thirteen and thinks having sixty-three girlfriends has an accomplishment behind it, when really I find it repulsive. In a smaller group of friends, where there is a total of five (myself included), I am the only one that hasn't had a "boyfriend" and I'm quite proud of myself for that. I just want to live my life and be a kid. I don't want to have worry about being pressured into other things after being in a couple. Like first kisses and PDA. I just don't see any reason behind it. It's disgusting what you see when walking down all High School hallway (the high school I attended is 8th-12th) and I really wish people wouldn't do things like it. I mean, I'm all for couples and PDA and all stuff like that doesn't bother me. What bothers me is when people are doing it, because everyone else is. You don't need to date someone, just to become cooler (cause in reality no one will notice) and then you'll just have to end it awkwardly, just like it started. Sometimes you even break a friendship because you were dumb enough to allow yourself to be with someone for a pointless week to a real length amount of time and this person could have really turned out to be your friend. I do find that writing all of this was quite pointless, because A, this is an older video, less people will be looking for it (maybe, obviously I'm no mastermind), B, as soon as someone clicks read more they're going to stop reading, because I wrote too much (some may read, but it's clear that a good amount of people are that lazy, again not a mastermind, I don't know exact answers) and, C, I really just did this to vent and my topic matches this one, so I figured I may as well use this as a helpful opportunity. In my small home town middle school relationships were different. most became best friends and it was almost a way of bringing the largely divided genders together. even after relationships ended a friendship generally stood. along with this normally when a dude and a lady entered a relationship both friend groups mashed together. my 8th grade year my friend group doubled in size as my friends and my girlfriends friends all became friends. it bridged the gap between awkward confrontation with girls and meaningful conversation. it thought me that girls and women we not unlike men and boys sharing a lot of the same feelings and aspirations. in all my grade became a lot closer through middle school largely because of the relationships that occurred.

I am a soon-to-be-freshman, and I am a female that began, I suppose it can be called tip-toeing around the concept of dating in my last year of middle school. I had developed a crush on one of my female friends, and the relationship developed into a kind of friends with benefits/flirtationship kind of thing, and those three months were the most emotional and frustrating months of my life. we ended up becoming an official couple the day after our graduation, and I am proud to be able to call her my girlfriend. I think that it's up to them. It's a learning process, yes, and it might not be very serious, but I don't see the harm. You say that but there are people that I know in the 4th and 5th grade who date and go to the movies together and text each other goodnight and all kinds of stuff that the high schoolers do. Don't take that the wrong way either because they don't do THAT. But i Jaeson some people really do date they don't just talk. They leave notes in each others lockers to. Yes the 4th and 5th grade have lockers big whoop. Just think about that young of people dating!!

I told a guy I liked him when I was 13 and he said he liked me back and we were "dating" for a week or so, although we were both too nervous and awkward to do anything I think, and he only hugged a few times, and then he was the one who broke it off saying that we should just be friends and that he wasn't ready to date, so I get what Rhett and Link are saying about mimicking, we didn't have any REAL loveydovey feeling we were just both attracted to each other and already ok friends, still friends now and I kinda still like him a while later tho, so idk how to feel

They're mostly trying to protect you I'm sure. wouldn't wish heartbreak on anyone but there might come a time where your love is unrequited. it's not exactly being cheated on but it can hurt in a similar way. No matter how sheltered you are, you will feel and eventually learn to overcome it.

I have been dating the same boy for years and am still dating him....I started dating him my freshman year of high school and I am still dating him now as a freshman in college. I personally think that dating in high school is normal and sometimes those relationships do go somewhere. But middle school is a little early; you're still learning how to transition from a kid to a teen and you need time to more fully understand yourself. It's all based on maturity; if you are a mature teenager then yes you may be able to have a meaningful relationship.
