this is how most prisons should be. prisons in america focus on revenge instead of rehabilitation. the prisoners learn nothing from their mistakes and end up even worse after they're released.

***** crime doesn't go down because of punishments. if a guy goes to prison for armed robbery, he's gonna end up joining a prison gang or just sit around all day for however long his sentence is. obviously if you join a prison gang it's pretty likely you're gonna be back in prison soon, but even if you sit in your cell all day, you're not being rehabilitated. you're being exposed to everything that happens inside prisons. you learn nothing while inside and can't get a job when you get out because no one wants to hire people that have been in prison. so that guys gonna get out of prison and have nothing, so he'll just go do something to get himself sent back in

When you treat People like animals, they gonna act like animals. It all comes down to this; What is more importent, punish the criminals badly, or keep the sivilians and society safe? Because here`s the numbers, 76.6 % of the criminals goes back to jail in America. Norway? 20%. And second, far from every prison in Norway has these standards. But these types of prisons serves also as a social Experiment. Of course, if someone killed or robbed someone i know, it would be disturbing to see they don`t suffer big time when their locked up. But if it prevents other People in the future to become victims of a crime, its Worth it. If a tv and a nice room can prevent a crime and victims, well, it`s more valuable than my need to see my offender suffer. And it`s not "easy" for me to think like this. My brother got robbed and stabbed for 2 years ago. And since also he sees it like this, it makes even more sense. Sorry for my bad English.

America really needs to step up. There is a reason a lot of the prisoners that leave the jails come back. What these countries try to do is rehabilitate their prisoners. They don't punish them for their actions. For many this sounds backwards but with a rehabilitation method you cut crime down. When they are released they know how to go back to living a normal life, shopping, getting a job, talking to people.
@bloodyrose20769 жыл бұрын
***** Yeah, there honestly is not stopping the blood thirsty prisoners and I do agree to some point that they should have some sort of protection and I doubt that all of the guards lack security but I also feel that the lack of weapons gives the prisoners some feeling of trust. I honestly don't know anything about American prison systems or the European system but they are definitely doing something right. They have a reason for what they do.

Prisons shouldn't be about revenge. In Norway, and many other countries, the incarceration is meant to punish, sure, but with the intent of having the incarcerated change their behavior in a controlled (?) environment. The goal is to rehabilitate and the ones regarded as nonrehabilitative are treated differently. Reincarceration rates indicate that this system works better than punishment based on subjective feelings of revenge.

The reason "we" Norway have prisons like this is because, we help the prisoners becoming normal inhabitants again. We also help them with getting education so they can find a job when the go back into the "reality" again. By doing this, the prisoners "never" go back to prison

Fermix I know other countries have the OPTION to build hotels for their criminals, AND I GET THAT, believe me. I think it's amazing they have a chance to learn, better themselves as human beings, feel comfortable, and eat ice cream all day even. *BUT AMERICA IS MUUUCH BIGGER*, we may have around the same percentage of criminals, but our overall population is massively larger. So our prisons reflect that; *EVEN THOUGH our GDP is one of the best in the WORLD*, the big number of criminals is still harder to deal with, could you imagine a 200,000 ROOM "HOTEL", it would be ridiculous and be larger than actual hotels. *When your a smaller population it's easy to build high quality prison's because there simply aren't as many prisoners*.
@ida21238 жыл бұрын
ALSO we have one of the lowest crime rates and approx. 20% of former inmates go back to prison; which means it works a lot better than America's prisons.

Also there is barely any crime in the U.S. (it depends on where you live), though in general, there isn't that much for the population size. In America the system works by making you afraid to commit a crime so most people don't. Also most people who go to jail have mental issues.

@isaacsdanny9 жыл бұрын
Cara Holms I see you haven't compared how few Norwegian prisoners end up back in prison, yet American prisoners are highly likely to commit a crime and go back to prison. Norwegian prisons teach people what they did wrong and makes them better people, American prisons make people worse.

I think the point is not that they enjoy themselves but that they learn from their mistakes. Like in the UK if you go to prison you meet more criminals and sit around watching TV all day. Then you're released and nobody wants to employ you so you have to resort to crime and you end up back in prison. In these prisons they're being taught to be better people. Much more effective, and they're learning useful skills too.

Not a better justice system... If your family got murdered, would you want the murderer to have that kind of lifestyle and only a couple of decades in prison?? A life is worth a life and if you ask me, once a person takes a life, they should be forced to give up theirs (not execution just life in prison).
@joenes965 жыл бұрын
@@johnlu7078 Yes, I would. I would gladly have the criminal getting an education, start working, paying taxes and becoming a better person when outside the prison, rather than rotting in a prison cell for eternity. What good would that do? Having your freedom taken away from you for 21 years is punishment enough. There is no need to treat the criminal like an animal.

The justice system in countries like Norway is so much better than the one in the US and many other European countries. In most cases, prisons make people even more hardened criminals and if they get out they just commit more crimes. In other places the prisons are there not to punish criminals but to get them to co exist with the rest of society. Rehabilitation > Punishment
