i wish you guys used some store bought products for the vegan ones! like at least vegan cheese for the queso and vegan beef for the chili. homemade recipes can be great but when it's just like tofu/cashews/jackfruit then it's just too easy to differentiate. especially for something like vegan custard, it's not possible to get any egg flavour if you're just using basic recipes with cashews or vegan milk

Yeah my partner is not vegetarian, I am vegetarian veganish, my partner developed a milk allergy, so we have made vegan meals many times because it is just easier to navigate, and honestly, they are so delicious! Most recently a vegan chili 🤤 now I want that again

I've appreciated some of these, like beyond or impossible burger comparions to beef where they are reasonable. But even just the opening to this episode bugged me, suggesting that hummus is an actual common use for vegan cheesecake and not just... vegan cream cheese? Jackfruit or Tofu and maple syrup chili, instead of beans and lentils, or even impossible beef? You guys can do better.

Okay but I actually feel it would be super fun if they did a "collaboration" with Sporked where they taste tested the best vegan versions of vegan alternatives like the best feta cheese, mozarella, best "real milk" like vegan "milk" and so on and THEN had Link and Rhett do the taste test where it's used in a dish and where they try to find the non-vegan version! That way we have something that is as close as possible flavour and performance wise to the "real" deal!

As a vegan (for health reasons) who cooks a lot and goes to a lot of vegan restaurants, these episodes always hurt my heart a bit. There are so many ways to create similar vegan versions of foods, but I don’t think the mythical kitchen is there quite yet.

I think part of it is that they don’t want to go with the easy option of just buying 1:1 translations of the non-vegan to the vegan options, like just buying processed vegan cheese. But also the options they choose do feel weird on purpose. Why use jackfruit when making a quick meatless crumble is the far better option for a chili?

Is there not a vegan on staff? You folks are in Los Angeles, there are so many vegan options available to you. Kithill makes a delicious vegan ricotta and I’ve don’t understand why there was maple syrup in the chili. I generally adore your content, but whoever is researching these recipes needs to start with researching the that product just exists in a vegan form.
