This old town is located right off of The Turquoise Trail or Highway 14 between Santa Fe and Albuquerque. People have inhabited this area for hundreds of years. This area is known for mining or turquoise as well as a few other precious materials. There have been multiple movies filmed either in or around the town.

Yeah I tried to give it a good western feel with the music since some westerns had been filmed there. It really did feel like it was out of a western movie. I just had no idea at the time and cell service was horrible when we were in town so I couldn't look anything up.

That town was the setting for the movie "Young Guns" back in the late 80's. the Murphy Dolan sign was left on accidentally on purpose...Mary's bar is a great old bar, long ago I would stop in on my Saturday motorcycle ride to Santa Fe and have a beer in Mary's. It was a cash only establishment. The cats loved the customers. I can imagine long ago it being full of patrons and music...

That is a great town. And the movie filming site! Our town had an idea to make it look more like 1900, taking out wooden awnings and fixing fronts of shops at a high price. But the backs are falling in. Takes a lot of money to keep things going. My town was not really improved by the slight facelift and when it rains and snows, walking not so nice. My original town looked a lot like that, why they didn't choose a western renovation I'll never know. Love how it looks there. That museum price was amazing and what variety of artifacts.
@RhettyforHistory
@RhettyforHistory 5 жыл бұрын
It's always sad to see those old towns crumbling like that but your town is certainly not alone in that. Seems to be happening all over America. Sometimes I find it so strange we build things and then people choose not to use them anymore. I know sometimes it's unavoidable as business goes and nothing else comes in. But many times it seems like they prefer to build a new place rather than use the old place. Every so often you'll see a city or town that uses the old buildings and it looks really cool.

That museum was pretty cool; treasures from the old wild west. I kept hearing Clint Eastwood Spaghetti Western musical scores playing in my head. Llamas and Camels share the same genealogy. I rode one (Camel) when I was in Cario Egypt. It really intimidated me because of the noises it made and it's size. I wasn't going to but the old famous saying of "When In Rome.. " motivated me to just do it! =)

I loved that museum. They had all sorts of stuff in there for sale. Too much to show on a video. I regret not buying one of those old west cartridges. I meant to and then got distracted by the museum and the kids wanting to feed the animals. Camels are an interesting creature. It feels so weird riding on them when you get up and down. I rode on some in the middle east. Thanks for watching and commenting.
