Her doing little chores and getting rewarded for it, is exactly what I do with my girls. Teaching Tyanna to do little jobs, no matter how trivial, is setting her up for when she must work to pay her way in life. Great work ethics for her. I'm also a Mom of color, who raised an only child, in a dual income household, where just about everything was done for him.That being said, I didn't quite realize how much I'd neglected to teach him, until we're in the middle of his college orientation. When it dawned on me, that my 17 yr old, would have to do his own laundry. I thought, "what's my RJ going to do, when he runs out of clean underwear?". Needless to say, he learned & survived, thanks to his dorm mates.

I teach my girls how to manage a home, a budget and how to manage out there in the big wide world! Your parenting skills are to be admired. I'm sure you are giving other parents ideas that will be helpful to them. What Tyanna is learning with you will be beneficial throughout her life. She is independent and will be a leader and not a follower. That is a good characteristic to have. She is earning an allowance while learning new skills. Jon, I like the attitude you have when it comes to those tenants who trash your place. Everyone is not like that. No she is not fired Jon, Tyanna has great critical thinking skills. She realized if she put the basket on the seat she would not be able to get in the car, so she handed the basket off to you. That's exactly what you and Mommy are teaching her.

She is such a sweetheart. Strong,helpful and happy. I handled rental properties for 11 years. This happens a lot of times. I advise Landlords to put it in the lease there will be an walkthrough every 4 months with a 72 hr notice. If they are decent tenants that take care of their home they won’t mind. Most tenants that destroy properties do so because they are getting evicted, that wasn’t even the case with these people. You better try doing better background checks. That was awful.

So sorry for what they done to the apartment it is so unfair for people to damage someone else property during the time they are renting, usually when someone damaged the property where they are staying it's time to go to court and get your money back for the work you have to put back into it to rent again, it's sad how dishonest people can be when your back is turned.

Omg! I’m almost as angry as you probably were about that lousy, unthankful tenant. It makes me understand why back in 1998 when I got divorced, had no credit history that the landlord made me pay two month’s security instead of one plus the first month’s rent. I was mad but did it. Lived there six years and upgraded the apartment and left it immaculate. He had a smile on his face during the walk through and I got all of my security back. You guys are great people and not only does Tyanna make me smile but so do you guys. Tyanna is learning great values.

John, if you want to help that tenant, you must hold them accountable. I was in PM for 20 years, I work with the government, in private RE, residential and commercial - most times, holding people accountable is helpful - you can still assist the one after them! (I'll continue watching the video now) maybe you held them accountable on the back end :)

We kept their deposit but that is about all we can do unless we pursue them legally. It's just not worth our time.

Hi my favorite (FAM)!!! I am so sorry for the damage done to your property! I remember living in an apartment and when I was ready to leave there and move into my own townhouse, I took the time to clean that place from top to bottom, not that it was dirty to begin with. Still, I wanted the landlord to know that I appreciated my time there and that I treated their property as though it was my own home. I didn't even waste time cleaning those silver pans on top of the oven. I just told her I bought new ones, and she told me you didn't have to do that. I wanted that stove to look like it was brand new!!! I did a great job on the refrigerator also as well as the rest of the apartment. Never hung anything on the walls so there were no holes to fix. She was so happy and smiling and the apartment looked so good until she turned to me and said, I can move somebody in right now it looks so good!! That's how I like to leave a place in immaculate condition!!

Little Tyanna sure isn't afraid of hard work. and is willing to help even though she doesn't have to. I've been watching the Alaskan Frontier series and I was astounded at how hard those people work. They start exposing their children to what has to be done in keeping up ones own property early, around three and four years old, but the children are not made to work. They help out doing small tasks sometimes, just like you two do with Tyanna. You certainly don't want her to have a lazy mindset. That's a good thing. She's just a gem and I am so impressed with how patient you both are and allow Tyanna to experiment, explore, and seek answers. I hope she will continue to be inquisitive, hardworking and not afraid to try new things. She will need so many skills to maneuver in the world she is to grow up in.
