This was very helpful! I never thought to use normal transformation tools on SubD surfaces, thanks.

Glad to see this is now implemented in Rh7. It wasnt available in the earlier WIP version. Cage edit has been a staple of my workflow since t-spline days. Also the bend feature because it it far more effective than pulling and rotating control points. Cage edit is great for post processing grasshopper generated subd's too. I really like tge flow features and will look at incorporating these too. Thanks Kyle!

If Batman wanted to go swimming... Surprised that cage edit was so slow on the dense subs given that it’s just a mesh under the hood. UDT does look promising still with the ‘preserve structure by default’ way of thinking.
@Rhinoceros3d4 жыл бұрын
Lot of math going on in the dense subd with cage edit, it may have been faster had I done that operation in box mode. There is a lot of power in the udt system, especially when you start stacking them.. twist then bend, cage then taper, twist and flow, etc.
@jonathanhutchinson56494 жыл бұрын
@@Rhinoceros3d yeah in box mode would be quicker you think. Otherwise, one for the pile. Maybe you should test the performance on the same object - one subD, one as a mesh (extract control polygon)

does the model keep it's thicknesses everywhere when you edit with something like the taper? Like the strap around the back side of the flipper. When you did the taper to make that area larger or smaller, does the thickness of that "strap" stay the same?
@Rhinoceros3d3 жыл бұрын
As Long as you edit everything uniformly. It does not do it automatically. It’s up to you to keep track.

I wanted to know if we can hide and show faces in subd modelling. like i see in Zbrush we can hide and show faces and also mask them.if this feature is not present can we expect it in next versions since if this is absent subd modelling will be way more difficult.
@Rhinoceros3d3 жыл бұрын
you can use a clipping plane tp hide parts of the model, but no subd per face visibility tools as of yet.

Wow, great video. Can I weld SubD vertices or SubD edges? ...if so ...how? Thanks
@Rhinoceros3d3 жыл бұрын
yes, pre pick two verts or edges and use the stitch command.

@@Rhinoceros3d Yes! Thank you very much.

can i dimension the reference line and change the size of them by typing changing dimension value? so the reference and target curve would be driven by a dimension, or it has to be done in Grashopper
@Rhinoceros3d4 жыл бұрын
You can use lines of known units then use osnaps to control it precisely, but if you need more control than that, gh is a great option
