Thank you for this fantastic video Mazzy! I was super happy to hear that The Smiths are high on the Rhino list of artists as I am 100% confident that ANY Smiths title done in the HF series will sell out in record time - was thrilled that you showed Strangeways Mazzy! They are all amazing LPs and deserve this audiophile treatment Fingers crossed we see Smiths titles!

Great chat. The Television album is such a seminal and influential album. There are a number of influential bands from the 80’s and 90’s like the Husker Du record that kids like my sons are also starting to listen to. The kids love vinyl too. I I would love a record company and engineer to bring out the sound of those records. It doesn’t have to be UHQR but they should be able to sound better to do the artist justice and to sit in my old man chair and enjoy. Oh and the kids would buy it. Thanks again as always. Cheers from an Australian in Sri Lanka 😊

Change of the Century- what an AMAZING album - also my favorite by Ornette! So thankful for this new Kevin Gray AAA remaster/release! Re. overdone releases, while I love the Dead (my favorite band), and American Beauty is one of my favorite albums of theirs, perhaps it's a bit overdone- do we need another one? But who knows, maybe this one will offer some neat new emphases/aspects to the sound.

Mazzy, you just won my heart forever! Mr. Heartbreak is seriously one of *THE* all time greatest albums EVER! I sought out a Promo pressing for that one, sounds amazing! I happened to see that concert, and WOW man! Let me tell you, I have never before or since seen anything like that. They all came out dancing to these wild poly rhythms dressed in all white suits with something like white gas masks one, and then all their white instruments descended from the ceiling and she snatched the white violin out of the air and burst out in this totally Otherworldly solo. Out of my paltry 2600 vinyl albums or so this one is easily in my Top Ten, hands down. An absolute masterpiece of composition, mood, and just pure F'n brilliance, truly!

Television was considered punk at the time it was released. They were as punk as Steely Dan was rock. No radio would touch anything considered punk. I would love to hear Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers Live at the Blue Note. Also Pere Ubu the Modern Dance.

I’m very confused by what Patrick said about the Fleetwood Mac S/T album. It’s been done (2012) before at 2x45 by Bernie Grundman & CB (mastered from the original source). Also Vinyl Me Please is releasing it in February cut AAA by Ryan K Smith. How does he not know? 🙄😂🤔

John Cale "Paris 1919" really needs a reissue. Even that WLP doesn't sound as good as it should.
@cradio5210 ай бұрын
I really hope they do drop the whole “1 jazz title, 1 rock title” with each release announcement. There are PLENTY of ultra high quality audiophile reissue labels doing jazz right now; that ground is pretty well-covered. Rhino would do well for themselves to carve out their own niche and give us ultra high quality audiophile reissues of rock, pop, R&B, folk, psychedelia, disco, funk… etc. Anything but even more jazz! It’s always jazz jazz jazz! Also Fleetwood Mac’s self-titled album has most definitely been given the “audiophile” mastering treatment before - a few times, actually. First was a 2-LP 45 RPM for RSD 2012 cut by Chris Bellman and pressed at Pallas, then another 33 RPM Bellman cut came out in 2022, and VMP is doing an AAA reissue cut by Ryan K. Smith for their Record of the Month in February 2024. And it’s black & white split/colored vinyl, if you care about that sort of thing! Also also, it’s heartbreaking that Rhino no longer has The Bee Gees. Now THOSE albums would be f**king incredible as audiophile releases. Their music is so rich, lush, layered and just generally stunning… there’s a lot that could be brought out by a quality remaster and I’m shocked they haven’t been done yet. Their entire catalog - everything from the earlier baroque pop albums through the disco years and beyond, is highly underrated and undervalued in general IMO. I feel like they’re usually written off as “the cheesy falsetto disco guys” but that’s so insanely far from what that band was, it’s crazy.

I don't know if the musicians for these albums would be interested in releasing them on vinyl, or if the recordings would benefit from such treatment, but for two way-out of the way recordings that might sound good on LP, I'm nominating "If Four Was One, by TJ Kirk, and "Fishnets and Cigarettes," by Toledo. I do think that if more people knew about "If Four was One," I imagine it could sell on vinyl. But presumably too unknown for Rhino. As for Toledo, that would be a vanity project. Not much audience for that one, but it's a great listen!

So funny that Kevin was not a 'Marquee Moon' fan before he cut the new lacquers. It's been my musical comfort food for 30+ years. The REAL problem w/ Fleetwood Mac s/t is the 15.5k whistle running thru the entire tape. The whistle was present on the 2x45rpm version from a decade ago.

@@mazzysmusic They did all new transfers of the hits for the recent Bee Gees documentary and will hopefully reissue the whole catalog from the 1ST to the final group album, though Universal owns the SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER soundtrack themselves. Barry Gibb is starting to have hearing issues, but he'll hopefully supervise as much as he can. He and Streisand also ought to fix up GUILTY because of some compression issues, plus updating its analog/digital mastering.

For me Marquee Moon is a highly influential record for UK post punk bands (such as Siouxsie & the Banshees, Cure), also very influential later for bands like Dream Syndicate or Dinosaur jr. I became aware of this band due the output from the label ROIR, which were issuing cassette tapes (Marty Thau) from NY punk bands. There is this killer song “Little Johnny Jewel”, which was only available as a 45 or on these ROiR tapes (eg the NY punk band compilation from ROIR- of course format = cassette). I have a German reissue from 1990, which sounds pretty good. I ordered this reissue now, especially after the slightly negative feedback from Fremer (😂🙃)! Shipping to Germany, so let’s hope😅. One more remark: there is a lot to discover when it comes to the later solo albums for Verlaine & Wright, especially when you adore the sound of Fender Strat! And thanks again for your nice wish list, Mazzy. Huesker would be quite interesting for Gen x dudes.

Don't know what The System is, doubt if you know, but not everyone is completely knowledgeable about every LP that has come out in the past 50. However, he has a pair of ears and experience in mastering records, which you probably do not. Buy the record, borrow the record, steal the record, then come back with a knowledgeable opinion. It's all subjective after all.
