I've watched all 5 parts and I loved them, you were extremely clear and kept it really simple. I will be taking lessons on Rhino7 soon, and I wanted to have a general idea of what I would be doing. Your videos helped a lot, I was worrying that computer modelling was going to be so difficult! Also, I wish you the best with your health, I struggle with hand and wrist pain too!

thank you for this great content it is so helpful , I've a question why did you use curve seam tool at first ?
@webduncetvАй бұрын
If you mean for the sizing circle, moving the curve seam was optional for this project since it had no complicated details, but it's still a good habit to move the seam to the bottom. As a general rule, jewelry designers will put the seam of the sizing circle at the bottom to keep it as far away from details as possible as the curve seam will eventually become a seam in the surfaces, which can potentially cause problems in more complicated designs. There can be exceptions where the top would be a better choice, but the bottom is almost always a good choice. But for this particular project, like I said, moving the seam is optional.

Awesome tutorials but I have a few questions about the wire cut command, I can't seem to get it to cut the object without asking for a direction input, how do you get it to just cut? I don't mind the long video's and I like how you show errors and work arounds, even more details would be appreciated even. There aren't many rhino videos out there at are as good and detailed as yours, keep up the good work.
@webduncetv Жыл бұрын
Hi. Thanks for the kind words. And I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. Are you sure it's asking for a direction? When I run the command, it asks me for a "cut depth point" with an option to hit enter to cut all all the way through, and in almost all cases I need it to cut all the way through so I just hit enter. I do see an option called "Direction" but I have to click on it. I've never changed it before so I guess the default of "NormalToCurve" works fine.

Love your tutorials! Thank you for them. I have a question though. Seeing as most of these 3d models will then get cast into metal, would you recommend adding 10% to the ring band size to account for shrinkage?
@webduncetv Жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. Also finishing and polishing the ring removes metal. I really expected this to be a problem, but I've never personally had ring size be an issue due to shrinkage from casting or from the finishing process. But I only worked in one shop, and there are so many variables in the casting process and from jeweler to jeweler (some jewelers might remove more metal during finishing) that I think it is possible it could be an issue in a different shop. You would need to just watch it. If it turns out to be a consistent problem, you could offset the sizing circle (offset inward toward the center so that the offset circle is inside the original circle). I would try very small offsets. Maybe 0.025 to start. If the finished rings are still turning out too big, then offset by 0.05. I doubt you would need to offset more than 0.05, but, if you do, then offset by 0.075, and and then 0.10, so forth. And just keep on offsetting more and more until you find an offset that produces good results for your shop. Once you find the offset that works for your shop, just make it a habit to offset the sizing circle always by that amount and then probably delete the original sizing circle (or put it on its own layer and turn that layer off...you just don't want to accidentally select it in the future). At least that's how I would handle it.

HI there, I'm 21 years of age and I'm in the jewelry business already. I was wondering if you give lessons, or could possibly answer a few of my questions. Love the videos, and how detailed they are.
@webduncetv Жыл бұрын
I'm glad you're enjoying the videos. I've never given lessons before. I am thinking about maybe doing a live youtube session. I wonder if that might work as a lesson or Q&A type of thing. You can also put questions here or send me an email (you can find my email on my channel's page). Or you can contact me on Twitter/X or Facebook (those links are also on my channel's page). I have just completed an updated version of my library and now I need to make tutorials on how to use that. I don't know how long that's going to take me. (A week or two, I'd guess). And then I promised a tutorial on another subject to another viewer, but after I'm done with all that, I'll try to come back to this.

I wish we could see what keys you are pressing, there are alot of shortcuts I don't know yet. Trying to figure out how you moved the line down.
@webduncetv6 ай бұрын
Hi. Are you talking about when I move the little line at the bottom of the sizing circle (at timestamp 1:56)? If so, I click on the line to select it, the gimbal widget appears (Rhino calls the gimbal "the gumball"...to be funny, I think). I then click on the upward pointing arrow, which makes a text box appear. If I type a positive number, it will move up. Since I want it to move down, I entered a negative number (-1.2). Press enter to finish the action. If the gumball doesn't appear when you click on the line, type Gumball in the command line and press enter. Then click on "On" (also in the command line). I hope that helps, if you mean another line, if you could give me a timestamp I'll look at it.

Hi. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos. It sounds like you need to change the viewport's render mode to shaded. Each viewport has a tab with its name (top, perspective, front, right). Each tab has a small arrow on the right side. If you click that little arrow, you will get a drop down. Just click on shaded. That will change the render mode for that particular viewport. Let me know if that helps.

4:19 how you adjust your curve with gumball and keep it "glued" to the circle? Mine just moves through it
@webduncetv3 ай бұрын
I'm not sure, but it sounds like you may need to turn on edit points. If the edit points don't turn on automatically when you select the curve, then you may need to turn them on manually. To do that, select the curve, click on the curve tab, and then click on "Show object control points". If you have the default toolbars, it should be the 9th icon from the left. Then select the top control point. Then you can move just the top control point. Let me know if that helps.

I think you mean the gumball. It should appear anytime you select any object. If it does not, then you need to turn the gumball on. To turn the gumball on, type "gumball" in the command line and press "enter". Then click the "on" option in the command line. Now, whenever you select any object, the gumball should appear.
