I'm with you brother. When I was explaining the meaning of the movie to my kids I started crying. The Nothing is adulthood trying to wipe out childhood. Imaginations from the Otherside by Blind Guardian is about the same thing. Adulthood creeps in trying to wipe out our childhood, making us forget the fairy tales, the adventures of Tom Sawyer, Robinson Crusoe, Bilbo and Frodo, King Arthur. I don't even watch Stranger Things but I have clear memories of this song being on the radio seemingly every hour on the hour that summer of 1984. I was 8 going on 9 years old and the target audience for it. Oddly, I never saw the movie until I was older and got tired of the song quick. I love the rather cheesy musical sequence in Stranger Things this song pops up in and how a younger audience is discovering it. It was probably when "peak '80s" was achieved.

I was not ready for that movie, the nothing the swamp of sadness, artex dying, destroyed me as a kid. As an adult i understand it more. The emptiness the lost of hope. When people have no hope they are easier to control, very deep. Is it about depression? And we have to become our on little warriors to fight it from taking over? Is it about people that use fear to control us? Or is it just a very interesting movie about a fantasy world that gets destroyed n then wished back into existence?
