@TheDarkDutchman sounds like it is a cross category type song. The lyrics and semi fast tempo sound disco, snd it'd a dance song. But it definitely has a strong r&b sound. For a variety of reasons. One, popular music doesn't incorporate studio musicians much at all. Two, image trumps actual talent because what you can market is valued for the faster $ than art. And three, the world is a much much much more openly cynical and jaded place. Kids would call this corny, like it matters what a 14 year old thinks when it comes to music.

@darrell mfume Yes indeed- that part! I remember this one of a kind jam playing on the local R &B station 40 years ago as me & a few classmates were walking to school doing the beginning of my 6th grade school year. Like I've always stated in terms of singing & playing an instrument, he got in the blessings line twice. First as a 8 yr old singing & recording Nat King Cole standards to having his own R & B/Rock & Roll band as a teen to finally starting to learn to play improvised music on the guitar in his early 20s. Vocally, he is a chameleon -from a MJ style on this classic to the art of vocalease as he's singing a Cannonball Adderley solo- he covers all the bases.
