Best 2.1 Wizard Build & Gear: Fire Mirror Hydra - Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls Guide

Hi Rhykker, I write from Italy and i want to thank you so much for your amazing work on guides and tips for Diablo 3 RoS, they really gave a new boost to play the game much "seriously" and having some fun. And, actually, following this guide made me ENJOY the game I think for the very first time since i brought the game: never found myself laughing while killing mobs, watching they explode and fly away out of the screen :D I used to run a cold ray/light of grace freeze mage build, then i got all the following pieces of gear: - RoRG; - 5 Firebird set pieces (elm, chest, gloves, pants, offhand); - 3 Blackthorne set pieces (amulet, belt, boots); - 2 Aughild set pieces (shoulders, bracers); - and... a Serpent Sparker :D so i switched to this build, with SS as a weapon and 3 complete set bonuses and...WOW ! at the moment i run 607 k dps and I'm able to handle Torment 3 very easy but, since I play on Hardcore mode, I have to be very careful while playing and when choosing skills too (mandatory Awareness on passives, you know...). Enemies really melt away in seconds and this let me run through torment 3 much faster than the freeze build i used to run...too bad it will be nerfed with next patch :/ Anyway, keep it up man you're doing a great work ! I have tried SO MANY builds, specifically trying to exploit gear benefits, but seriously regardless of gear this build HANDS DOWN deals the most area damage much faster and "melts" my enemies as you stated. Thank you for sharing, I am now able to expand my torment levels and gear finds.

I think something worth adding is you can switch to Blazing Hydra if you're about to fight a rift guardian, the stacking dot it provides will make sure that Firebird's DoT will keep ticking on the RG or Boss.

I'm still in the early stages with this build but it is working great. I'm finding that a good beginner combo is the Solanium mace (3% chance to drop health globe on crit), Razor Strop (300% damage when you grab a health globe), and Reaper's Wraps. The general friendliness of this build to running around makes the Razor strop/Solanium combo incredible...when I have multiple elites/champion packs on the screen, the frequency of globe drops sets off a chain reaction!

I started to rebuild my relatively low paragon (62) wizard last night following this guide. Currently grinding T3 Rifts with others (mainly because I dont' do enough damage to really kill much of anything) but anyways, The flavor of time amulet dropped last night and when I saw "Fire skills deal 20% more damage" as the top stat roll, I about died. None of my other gear (except maybe my Maloth's focus staff I'm using) is contributing any extra fire damage yet. I did get Vyr's Fantastic Finery from Kadala which increases electrocute dmg by 15% so when I switched from energy twister to using electrocute/forked lightning, the added fire bonus from forked lightning rune seemed to really stack well with the fantastic finery electrocute buff. Since it's a signature spell, I can sit there and spam blizzard with the apocalypse rune instead of frost nova. Tyrael's might dropped late last night with a 15% buff to blizzard damage so that stacked with the fire damage bonus seems to be working better for now vs frost nova. I'm still wrapping my head around this end game synergy stuff but am I sort of on the right track here in being a bit more loose with my skill selection vs what you have in the video? I tried it exactly as you have it laid out but the gear simply didn't facilitate the amount of damage I needed to dish out to survive T3.,,, or rather, make it seem like I was actually contributing much to the fight. I wasn't doing much of anything damage-wise and I felt like I was more of a burden than a help. T2 was manageable but very slow going. I'm not dying so I guess I got that going for me. Any recommendation on how paragon points should be allocated for this build? Thanks!

For me personally, after watching this video I switched to this build and it totally wrecks face on T1 and preforms well on T2, and I don't have any Firebird gear or Serpent's Sparker, just some generic fire damage / hydra damage gear. People online also said it was crazy cool to play with, because it boosted the hell out of their fire damage too.

With better gear I found Astral Presence can be swapped out for Unstable Anomaly which combined with the Firebirds Rebirth passive I found gives you enough breathing room to do a T6 clear at a decent pace, I still have a lot of gear to find that can really optimize this build but with Serpent Sparker (Might try Furnace if I find one) and the Firebird's 6 set I can easily farm T5 and T6 with some trouble from Vortex and Reflect Damage elites. Rotating Frost Nova and Black Hole with MM gives you more then enough options to stay at a safe distance from mobs and let your Hydras go to work. Also it's worth mentioning that Andariels, Maximus and Jang's Envelopment are great additions to this build. This build was very helpful in gearing my Seasonal at all stages, Thanks!

I usually play my wd but i saw this vid went looking through my stash and saw i had a Magefist and a Cindercoat so i finished my wizard and i am currently running around with 75% increased fire damage. One of my first drops was also a maximus with 20% fire increase. The fire chain demon is absolutely amazing with this.

A few things: 1. Would replacing Blazar with Event Horizon help keep projectiles under check? Random arcane beams, poison trails, walls ect kinda limit my movement. 2. Am I supposed to charge in with Bone Chill or use it only when things get close? Thanks

A good alternative to using Energy Armor is to use Magic Weapon with Conduit. The burning from not only your attacks, but from your decoys' attacks as well, restores arcane power with every tick. This is especially effective with Apocalypse Blizzard.

Trying out the cold build Rhykker posted earlier. Really like it :) Switched from fire, now looking for gear to make me stronger. Easy T4 solo/group farm so far, was able to farm T6 in a group without dying too. Was super lucky with the offhand, dropped very nice light of grace in my first rift after deciding to switch to cold :) But man that rineheart is hard to drop... Spent 20+ souls trying to enchant my stone of jordan to cold from fire, no luck so far :/

I use a similar build with Blizzard that freezes, with a signature spell that does fire damage you can stack up 3000% damage with firebird set quite easily. Using the black hole you can also gather them all in one spot and perma freeze them in a spot using blizzard over and over again with little bit of signature spell in between (this means your mammoth hydra will be doing TONS of damage since they will be stacked on fire at all times). If you are geared enough with lots of crit, using electrocute with forked lighting rune with any gear that has arcane power regen per crit damage is amazing. You can run around in a larger rifts and gather a TON of enemies and just kite them in to a door way or with good control you can black hole and freeze them all in a spot with mammoth hydra fire. I play in torment 6 with ease with this build. cheers.

I use the build but made some changes to the gear. mixed firebirds with tal rashas get a small % for fire damage on tals but with the mega bonuses with firebirds plus the meteor attack bonus on tals, pure fire is it. I have great survivability and do major damage with this gear set up.

Chandler Ball Sorry, almost all sentry build does include the M6 set. What I'm running is a solid build though. It's worth it though, not exactly the hardest set to get from Kadala.

Just saw this today, made T6 even easier by a large margin. Currently sitting around 1.5 million fire dps with full FB, magefist, ancient fire reaper wraps, sparker with gift to free up %dmg, ancient ring, ammy, and FB source. This build is absolutely nuts.

think the weapon your looking for is pretty good called the twisted Axe i think increase twister damage by 140% the more your twisters are out can't remember but its a damn good one hander I would use the firebird offhand orb with it

My build is like this but I use a fire serpent sparker, + 2 mirrorball OH, so magic missle > mirror images. I like the piercing too. I also use meteor molten impact over frost nova. It's like a nuclear bomb. Stack all offensive abilities and passive and keep your finger on teleport

Use it . Great build. have a neck that gives perma blur. An ancient axe that gives 18% fire and the bracers which gives like 16% fire. W/o neck have full tal rasha full cain's. Farm t1 like nothing. Good job.

Hey Rhykker, dig the nado hydra build. Haven't come close to finishing FB's and am farming t5 comfortably. Had one ? Though. Are energy twisters supposed to crit? They do good dmg don't get me wrong and the extra fire dmg debuff is invaluable. I just noticed that they never crit and wondered if it was a bug as I couldn't find anything in patch notes about it

This build looks pretty cool i'm definitely gonna try it. Lemme tell you mine, i was lucky enough and got a good gesture of orpheus on my season wizard as soon as i hit 70. I had been using the wave of force arcane attunement and frost nova cold snap since the beginning and now with the bubble that gives +10% dmg in addition, it works so well! but you need mana on crit on your helm, source, energy weapon conduit and astral presence passive to have enough mana and spam waves of force. I use temporal flux, audacity and blur as the other passives plus energy armor prismatic. I really like my build, felt like sharing it.

If you just got to 70 you should do act 1 bounties to get a good ring of royal grandeur and some rift keys, then do some rifts and try getting the gear youre missing with rifts and bloodshards.

What would be a good fire weapon to go with the Firebird's Source? I have 4 pieces of the set, chest, gloves, shoulder and legs. I haven't got a Ring of Royal Grandeur or a decent Cindercoat yet. I'm saving the Source for last cause I'm still hoping for a good fire weapon drop. But if I don't get one in time, would trying to build a good, maybe even a Ancient Devastator be a great alternative until I find a Serpent's Sparkler?

BloodReaperZ still it won't get you to the highest greater rifts , you'll need furnace for that , cuz the 50% dmg against elites is a huge advantage ^^,

Is there away I can get a link to all the gear pieces he mentioned? I cant seem to find all them or hear him quite well enough to know which gear to look out for. I'm a level 70, paragon level 47 wizard, I use the combo black hole, meteor, hydras, ice armor (slows enemies so they cant even get to me sometimes) and magic.... I forget the name at this moment, just a basic attack I can change to a fire damage basic attack, I do 5-10 mill per basic attack, got firebirds shoulders and some ral taka pieces I believe they are called, sorry for not knowing everything I just got the game 3 days ago or so lol. I want to try out this build but would like to know the gear to collect first, so I can try it out at it's max potential. Thanks! :)

This is a super interesting build, but how does it fair against large groupds of white mobs? Right now i use Wave of Fire (the fire rune) to blast through the white mobs. I don't really like the idea of just idling while I wait for other things to kill the white mobs for more is my problem with it. I can see how this would dominate elites and RGs.

you run a circle, get them in a bunch then you do the combo: Hydra, Black hole, Freeze(for extra black hole explosion damage) and you just spam tornadoes. If there are more left you can summon your mirror images at this point :)

hey! does this build still work? i tested it a few month ago and it worked perfectly fine. i took a break then and wanted to start the new season with this. but it seems like blizzard nerfed the mirror images again so you can only have 2 hydras at the same time. one orignal cast by you and one cast by all 5 mirror images (not 5 how it used to be). can anyone confirm?

Seems like I cant get past GR 31 with this build due to mirror images dying so quickly. And only 1 mammoth hydra doing the dmg while kiting mobs aint the best way to stack up the FB dot. Solid build for T6 and below, but dont expect to achieve GR +35.

TheLockville this build will still help you till you complete the 6 set ^^, However a one hander might be more useful now,since they changed hydra's attack speed to your own attack speed.

I can't find out whats best for the items i have try to run with the firebird set with RORG and they are just going down so fast cuz of the 6 set - I also tryed to go full fire dmg (113%) but im not sure whats makes the most dps. I really like the fire build cuz i have the furnace and stone of jorden so alot elite dmg (107%)
