Thanks for the memories! Back in the pre-cable mid-70s, when I worked nights, I had nothing to watch, all day, but Soaps and Game Shows, and this is one of my all-time favorites! I never missed it!

I remember watching this with Nipsey Russell as one of the panelists. I remember him on other shows like To Tell The Truth, Match Game, Pyramid and was occasionally on Chain Reaction with Bill Cullen. And a decade later He was the emcee on Your Numbers Up.

This is a pilot episode of "Rhyme & Reason" (an American short-lived game show in the mid 70s) and it originally aired in July '75; this is part one. The two contestants competing on this pilot episode are Patrick & Yensin. 🇺🇲 🇺🇲

Thanks for posting. I've been trying to remember the name of this show. My memory was limited to one specific rhyme. It began with, "If Jussi Björling, tell him that I'm Bizet," and Jaye P. Morgan completed it with, "But I'm Carmen over, if that's okay."

that was part of the reason the show was created to showcase Nipsey's poetry.

I seem to remember a much different theme when the show actually aired .. My memory was that this was designed to tap into the popularity of Match Game and also build around the poet of TV Nipsey Russell. I find it interesting that Dawson was on the panel, considering that we a popular regular on MG. Also, did anyone notice the clue music at 2;44was also use on The Jokers Wild.

Bob hosted another celeb-based game show in 1979 called "All Star Secrets", which ran on NBC from January 8 to August 10 of that year. There are a couple of clips of that show here on KZbin.

It did. It ran for one year on ABC from July 7, 1975 to July 9, 1976. However, the show was placed at the 2:30pm/1:30pm Central time slot for the remainder of 1975 (July 7th through December 26th, the day after Christmas), in which "The Doctors", an NBC medical soap opera, easily beat R&R in the ratings. When the show moved an hour back three days later (displacing "Let's Make a Deal" 1:30pm timeslot), it was faced with competition w/ NBC's "Days of Our Lives" and CBS"s now-cancelled "As the World Turns", both of them which already expanded their soaps to one hour. R&R just couldn't compete.

A big connection that Rhyme and Reason has with Match Game AND Family Feud. Rhyme and Reason was created to duplicate the success of Match Game which Richard Dawson was a panelist on, Dawson was a panelist on this episode of Rhyme and Reason, and the show would be replaced by Family Feud which Dawson hosted.

@johe64 Actually, it aired at 2:30 PM ET, replacing "The Big Showdown". On December 29, following the cancellation of "Showoffs", R&R was moved to 1:30, to make room for "The Neighbors".

@2005dave
@2005dave Ай бұрын
The day the show premiered in 1973. Dawson was on every episode of Match Game and also concurrently hosted Masquerade Party, a syndicated weekly show for Monty Hall. He did both Match Game and Family Feud for two years until he quit Match Game in 1978, just after the set redesign and introduction of the Star Wheel.

Does anybody have the final episode (July 9, 1976)? Where Charlie Brill, Pat Harrington, Mitzi McCall and J.P. Morgan destroyed the Rhyme & Reason set by breaking seats, smashed light panels, tore down the 'Rhyme & Reason' signage, and ripped apart the carpeting. As Bob Eubanks said goodbye, the four trashed Eubanks' podium.

Jack said to Jill when they came down the hill... "I may have all the water, but you got YOUR fill!" "Necking" is something couples do in a car... Usually in a driveway 'cause the hill is too far! When Lady Godiva went for a ride... Men looked at her, then their wives and, as one, they all sighed! "Scarlett," said Rhett, "I've but one thing to say: If General Grant comes, kindly lead him astray!" The Avon Lady is ringing your bell... But you're a male and live alone so tell her "Go to hell!"
