Funnily enough people have played with the game's music in Tetris 99 in "Tetris to the beat" videos. So all they had to do was take that concept and maybe add some sort of rhythm bar thing with a stronger reward/punishment system. But from the looks of it, they didn't seem to put much effort into it given that even the touch controls themselves are hiccuping. Perhaps they'll update the game and fix things. But they sure didn't give players a good first impression of it.

Mixing rhythm with other genres seems like it would be a hard thing to do but also a fun game design challenge. I have an idea for a rhythm-based fighting game but like, there are a lot of things you would have to consider to make that work. Stuff like: How to implement rhythm elements to begin with? Should attacking off rhythm be a legitimate mixup? Should miss the rhythm once or twice break combos completely or have a less severe penalty? When/if I ever make games, I really wanna try making this idea come to fruition.
@cubesolver2564 Жыл бұрын
An approach I thought of when designing a conceptual fighting game is to give each character a certain "internal BPM" which will act as the foundation of their frame data so that successful combos and links have a rhythmic flow to them, so the player executing them can use their sense of rhythm to make those links more consistent. If you make this BPM the character's theme/stage music, then their actions CAN align with the music when playing on their stage, but that also relies on the player being able to do those links. This wouldn't interfere with the other player since if they're stuck in a combo, then it either doesn't affect them because they can't do anything anyways, or it will help them because if there's a combo escape mechanic, you can also rely on the attacking character's rhythm to predict when the next hit will occur.

as someone who has had experience with both modern tetris and rhythm games, these two concepts are just very different at their core, and they don't work very well fused together. the closest you can get to this concept with this is tetris effect, which is great but it's because it's more reliant on you making the beats (although not that noticable at first), but problem is that at that point it's not really a rhythm game, cause you don't get punished for not being on time with the songs. with that, just play taiko on apple arcade
@mlyu113 жыл бұрын
tetris player here okay so, they made a game based on speed, placement precision and efficiency and combined these with a restrictive beat, incredibly low precision because there isn't a soft drop and the time for placement optimization will be limited (side note: i think you might be able to draw the pre-placement pieces over but i havent played it so that just might be a thing) and a time limit to restrict further play / different modes and speeds like survival or maybe a multiplayer. literally everything about this game is terrible, wow dude

Now what about the Taiko No Tatsujin Pop Tap Beat or whatever it's name is for the apple arcade. I wanna know how that is. So I can decide if I should get a iPad/iphone for it, or nah.
@tokaku3 жыл бұрын
okay, so basically... It's my favourite taiko 'console' release by far. It's different from the IOS taiko no tatsujin release on the Japanese app store. The game UI is the most 'pretty' imo compared to switch, the Japanese app and other releases (I can't speak about taiko no tatsujin wii though, I haven't played that one). It runs at 120fps unlike the Japanese app version which is locked at 60fps. If you're going for an ipad pro that has 120hz, it's absolutely worth it. It's in full English too! I can't believe they went through the trouble of localising and making an English cover of the tutorial song. They really did put effort into this one. The one and biggest drawback I find with the phone app is that because it's an IOS game, you can't connect any wired drum controllers to the device and use it. There are no bluetooth taiko controllers at the moment (though those sound like a horrible idea). So unfortunately you'll miss out on the 'authentic taiko drumming' experience. The other problem is that the game right now doesn't have many songs. I hope they add more songs to it, I think they will. However, getting an IOS device just for that though? I... would not really recommend that. BUT if you have a ton of other rhythm games in mind along with the IOS device just like I did with my ipad, you're in for a great time and an extremely versatile device, especially if you're a student who does a lot of note taking. I also recommend having a few games you play from the apple arcade because I don't think it's worth $5/month for just one game on there.

I’m going to be the odd ball here, and say that, I actually like the game. Play it quite a bit actually. Even though… most of the time, I’m not the best with rhythm games, I still find a way to do at least pretty decent. Of all the times I played Tetris Beat, yeah there have been times I screwed up and lost, but there are times where I actually did OK and got through a song and a puzzle. Hell… There’s even a mode in the game, where you don’t even have to play to the beat at all, you could just play it like normal Tetris, with one of the songs you choose in the background. The only main complaint I have against the game, (in my personal opinion), they need to add a landscape mode, seeing as that’s how I use my iPad most of the time. I rarely use my iPad in portrait mode. but yeah… That’s my take on it.
