I was aware of the kickstarter, though I guess my mindset during my review was 'the game is like this NOW, I review how it is NOW' because it talks about week 7 only! It's great that the devs are promising great strides that even I want to see in the game. Oh, but there is one thing I'd like the devs to add, I forgot to say this during my after thoughts: LEGACY MODE This is for the old versions of all the charts if they decide to change the charting for all the charts in the future. This is because I KNOW there's going to be people out there who want to try or play the older version of charts for some reason?? Well, this was done in phigros with the 'legacy chapter', and I think it'd fit very well in FNF as well.

hi im the programmer of friday night funkin FPS is bumped up to 144+ cap on desktop when that comes to itch, on browser it was a vsync type thing where it was unlocked like that. and offset stuff is bein worked on! inputs were touched up and tweaked, not some big overhaul just yet or anything for note chords, some of the older charts have been updated, and some do have note chords, im preeeettty sure that engine DOES support those! BUT I personally use them sparingly when I chart, because when i chart I also try to keep CHARACTER MOVEMENTS and their animations in mind when I chart. Trying to keep it all tied together like that. That kind of stuff def been on our minds since we started work on game tho! AND DEDICATED MOD SCREEN COMING SOON ALSO THAT BEEN IN DEVELOPMENT SINCE NOVEMBER LOLOLOL AY

Week 2 now has "Monster" as an official song, and it got re-charted. "High" in week 4 now let's you do the mom's crazy part at the end. And based off of other comments, weeks 1&2 now have some chords (I know week 1 with "Fresh" got the biggest change).

I think the issue with the charting is that the way it ties into the character animations may be motivating them to also consider whether the animation of a particular direction fits - they do, after all, tend to show the characters' mouths shaping different syllables.

FNF doesn’t have an early hit window, the earliest you can hit an arrow is essentially on-beat, there’s only late hit windows. That’s also the reason why you can buttonmash if there’s no ghost-tap penalty, the earliest possible input is a “sick”. I also just checked, and a sick is up to +25ms, good is up to +41ms, bad is up to +100 ms and shit is up to +116ms

Something a lot of people miss about this update is that there is now an official chart for Monster, the 3rd week 2 song, whereas before you would have to download a mod to play a fanmade chart. This official chart includes chords, so I think they actually did fix the engine to allow them.

There actually are some chords in some songs in FNF. The person who runs the Siivagunner channel helped change the charting for nearly every song and at least a few got chords, such as “Fresh” on hard mode. Also “Monster” at the end of week 2.

Just a correction, the new input system does allow chords, it just isn't used much yet but there are chords, just only in really specific levels The only 2 levels I noticed to have chords is the new Fresh rechart and the new Monster rechart. Monster was technically new with Week 7 as well, you should've played it, especially since that song uses chords quite frequently on Normal or Hard while Fresh only has a few chords at the beatbox section on Hard. and something that wasn't mentioned, almost all the charts got touchups in the Week 7 update to be more fun and enjoyable while making use of the new engine. Personally, a true experience of the Week 7 as a whole would basically be playing the whole game again.

A quick correction of your correction. Monster wasn't added in Week 7. It was in the Week 6 update too, possibly earlier than that. However in those updates it was only available through Free Play mode rather than Story Mode. Idk if they added Monster to week 2 in the Week 7 update though since I can't get the game to load (I tried 20 times and it kept freezing during the HaxeFlixel load)

the reason I enjoy Friday night Funkin mainly is the art and music. As an artist, seeing phantomarcade's work on this game is a huge inspiration to me, the style is phenomal (personal opinion), the colors and use of line weight is great and the music hit's in just the spot for me. fundamentally I'm aware of its flaws but at this point I couldn't care less, the game is fun to me and I enjoy getting high scores on the songs that I love, like I said, the game is a real driving force for me. I love its sort of casual attitude, just something to pick up and put down every now and then, plus its even inspired me to mod my own characters into the game, just a fun game that i always seem to enjoy. P.S. I don't enjoy other rhythm games nearly a much because in most cases the music isn't quite my taste and there's no sick ass art. To be 100% honest, rhythm games just aren't my thing, but i really appreciate Friday night Funkin because it hits all spots for me, anyway, that was my rant, I know I'm coming off as ignorant, but hey, that's just how i feel.

I’m really happy I actually played Friday Night Funkin because it got me to check out Quaver and I’m just starting out but I’m really enjoying it so far! And Week 7 has very nice new hit system so I’m very happy with everything in Week 7 and they are taking steps in the right direction.

My god you explaining the offset being early made so much sense! I didnt notice this issue cause I tend to play rhythm games on consoles instead of my computer. I just assumed I was bad at using the keyboard lol. Honestly, I kinda wish they let us set the offset ourselves so that players that are too fast or too slow could adjust the speed that works for them.

Input lag combined with shotty mapping made the Christmas week a struggle for me. With this newest update, I aced the songs first try. It's so nice to see this game become a respectable rhythm game.

@@Ni4Ni right? Its better but not perfect. I grew up on games like Rockband and Guitar Hero. Each note actually landed on the beat. FNF has an issue where base game is either too early to too late. If you press when note plays it isn't matched

The creators are working on scoreboard, and a easier way to import mods to the game (like the rhythm doctor example you showed), fixing the charts and offset, being able to custom arrows (it's colors at least) and a lot more that i can't remember at the to top of my head

Some things about the offset issue you mentioned: As of the Week 7 update all the songs have actually been adjusted and (with the exception of Tutorial for some reason, which is 60 ms late or so) are now offset properly. The issue specifically seems to comes from the game's engine itself, HaxeFlixel. Its inputs inherently have ~100 ms of delay in the web version and ~70 in the Windows version. There really just needs to be an offset option in the game. Devs have apparently played around with the idea but nothing has come from it yet. Kade Engine has it but it's in the options and it seems a lot of people are overlooking it unfortunately. I think with how this engine is, a mandatory calibration would go a long way. Chords are also possible with Week 7's input overhaul, and they actually went back and added some in for the older charts. Not sure why they're not present for the new songs. At the very least, it would've been nice on the holds and the slower parts of the songs. Anyway, good analysis as always! Thanks for always looking at this game with an open mind!!

Well, a good thing about the "full-ass game" is that it'll be released on Steam, which means the upcoming "robust mod support" could easily be hooked up with Steam Workshop, so eventually we could see one-click mods and that's gonna surge an entire new wave of popularity to the game. Also, I think that they are mainly focused on satiating the current fans and not drawing new people in necessarily. So, while I'm not saying they don't think offset is important, I see why Week 7 didn't bring it.

ninjamuffin put a comment on this very video stating that he rarely uses them because they also keep in mind character animations, and so don't want to have wonky animations with cords. Some people have suggested to have unique animations for things like chords though. He's definitely heard that idea by now.
