For a home controller I'd also point out the Rhythmagica TDC10. It's a bit more expensive than a HORI drum but much less expensive than the Taikoller or Taikoforce, making it the perfect middle ground between the two. I'd recommend it over the HORI drum, since the HORI drum requires a pretty grueling sensitivity mod to be playable at the muzukashii level (see my video on the matter). Additionally, the drum face of the Rhythmagica is more rubbery and bouncy, making it easier to do rolls and making it feel better in general. The only downside to the Rhythmagica is that, for console use, you need to use an app for the standard controller inputs, whereas there are buttons built into the HORI drum for whatever console you're playing on. Also it appears to be out of stock right now, but I imagine it'll be restocked before the holidays.

The VESA mount on the back of the TDC10 was my deciding factor in it, personally I have mine mounted to the wall in front of a monitor. I imagine a desk clamp or stand would also work great.

This please, I'm surprised it flew under the radar for this video, I hope he pins this comment. I'm planning on getting one for myself as a Christmas gift to me lol.

They spell it "Rythmagica" [sic]. I have many tatacons (HORI Switch, IINE Switch/PS4, TDC10, IINE Pro Max, Taikoller). While the TDC10 is better than a HORI, the missing built-in controls that you mentioned are not its only downside. The stand that it comes with is quite bad, so you more or less have to get a VESA mount option. And worst of all, it's just a bit too small, at least for my taste. The IINE Pro Max, another third party tatacon that deserves more mention, is much better in terms of playability. It's 35 cm in diameter, large but not as large as an arcade accurate tatacon (44 cm). If your are in China or can order from Taobao, then you might even get a Pro Max for less than a TDC10. Otherwise it's a bit expensive at the moment, but still less than a Taikoller.

Taiko no tatsujin southeastern asia player here, I gotta say, this video is the most accurate video of taiko documentary I've ever seen, tried to compare, and yes, I'd say this one has the most info for a taiko beginners information

It's pretty wild how difficult taiko can be when it's just two types of notes.

Taiko has been released in Brazil in 2016 with a mix of japanese songs and local kid and folklorical songs. There still is a persistent flow of releases brought up to the big arcades and amusement houses... But yeah, down here is not technically "the west" as you guys say, so who cares lol.

Very well-made video! I think you've managed to cover pretty much all the essentials of Taiko in a pretty informative way. Two little things I'd like to add: - These days, aside from Taikoller and Taikoforce, there's also Zhong Taiko available as a premium drum, which some people would argue is the highest-quality drum you can currently purchase. Definitely worth a mention at least! - Giving credit to all the channels whose footage you featured would be nice! I know you credited some sources, but apparently not all of them. (I think I recognized some footage from red55taiko, for example). Hoping to see more videos like this, as I'm very eager to learn about other types of rhythm games as well!

Good points. The IINE Pro Max also deserves a mention. It's a great (and only?) intermediate option between the small tatacons and the arcade-sized premium ones.

another winning video from loserman. loved the silly classroom setup bit lol. i remember back when taiko first had that ps2 home release back in 04, i was in college in a small town back then, nary a taiko dedicab for miles and miles, let alone a big box arcade, so i'd only ever heard of the game on the internet. when i heard it was getting a domestic home console release, i immediately purchased. im still a proud owner. it was disappointing as hell, just as the beatmania ps2 home release i also picked up; neither helped me really get into the game much but we did our best with what we had back then. i'm so happy that it's so available today, and that usa players are being given another chance for official domestic releases.

Nice video! I’m so glad that you recommend learning to full alt. It may not seem that important at first but it becomes very useful later as it actually helped me pass 10th dan.

I'd heard about this series back in the day! though didn't really get to check it out until the first switch version. so many freaking songs! but it was kinda neat using the joycons as stand-ins for the drumsticks. even though I'm sure it's a far cry from playing on one of the actual tatacon drums.

I remember trying to get the PS2 Taiko Drum Master and not being able to find it anywhere. That sales number is incredibly low, and I wonder if distribution was a factor.

I started TnT 2 years ago, in 13 days I went from complete beginner to intermediate by getting the title of 1st Dan with a simulator who had the dan courses. In February 2023 I cleared Rokuchounen to Ichiya Monogatari aka A Tale of Six Trillion Years and a Night, which a mid 9* Oni. Since then I played a bit here and there but stagnating at a 8* to mid 8* Oni and until PC version released I didn't play and I do intend on learning to finally be better. Controller is more than fine but I WISH I could get an arcade taiko drum as the tatacon isn't suited for charts above 6* Oni
