Honestly I think the hate train comments are weak. Conductor Williams takes a 4 bar sample, adds literally two sounds and tells a 29 minute story about it and people call him a genius. That’s not even a knock on him, both of them do EXACTLY what they’re known to do - make a ton of beats, keep it simple and move on. That’s what he did here. What makes their beats magic is what artists DO over them. If J Cole or Kendrick was on this joint everyone would be spazzing out at how much room he left for the artist. Timbo makes beats for SONGS.

Ngl this was dissapointing from the start, the record store seemed to have all the classic/popular records, nothing obscure. Timbo didn't seem to wanna be there, he only listened to the first record and c'mon how can you not know the song, it's a sample from My Way Home from Late Registration. But hey I don't know the full story I could be wrong it just seemed to me that way 🤷♂

The producer "Timbaland" that people think of is a team: Timothy Mosely and his producer assistants. Scott Storch, Danja(handz), Jimmy Douglas, Missy, and many others to this day. (There's a reason he's been so deep into AI.) Timbaland, alone, will never produce a Timbaland beat..IYKWIM.

Timbaland is a legend, obviously, and I'm over the moon to see Rhythm Roulette back... but yeah this left me a little wanting. On top of seeming a little disinterested in the challenge, I think the main problem was the RECORD STORE they went to. Too upscale, too well-curated; a store that streamlined also upped his odds of landing on such a total "gimme" record to flip like Gil Scott-Heron. There was never gonna be any crouching and fighting to find the heat on a cast-off country music picture disc. (And yeah make them at least listen to all three; Future Islands or Jerry Garcia flip could have been wild.)
