Honestly I think the hate train comments are weak. Conductor Williams takes a 4 bar sample, adds literally two sounds and tells a 29 minute story about it and people call him a genius. That’s not even a knock on him, both of them do EXACTLY what they’re known to do - make a ton of beats, keep it simple and move on. That’s what he did here. What makes their beats magic is what artists DO over them. If J Cole or Kendrick was on this joint everyone would be spazzing out at how much room he left for the artist. Timbo makes beats for SONGS.

Ima be honest yall. This sounds like something Timbaland would make so it checks out. Honestly im more disappointed he didn’t know that song already or the fact that it was sampled. He also could’ve made more than one beat. When you look through out Timbalands career this beat actually makes sense honestly. He’s never really been a crate digger like that anyway. A lot of his production hasn’t been sample based so

Not to defend this, but timbaland, isn’t a natural sampler and 2 timbaland is x20 the producer el-p is. Dude carried an entire label by himself and all his artist was going platinum at the same time, while he literally made all the beats. Only a rza can relate. Timb had missy, ginuwine, Aaliyah, himself/magoo, all plat at the same time. And that’s early on.

@@djnes2k7 Oh, I wasn't even trying to compare the producers themselves are they are both legends for exactly what they both wanted to do. One was aiming for platinum records, the other surely was the opposite and ran a label and produced legends in their own timeless art. I was simply saying that the old episodes had that more low key Mass Appeal / Jason Goldwatch shot, type vibes. And used records from low key record shops. This video is just so Hollywood feeling compared to what I remember of all the old ones. Nothing about Timbaland. Speaking of, if you haven't seen Piece by Piece about Pharrell, ya gotta. (Company Flow, Cannibal Ox, Aesop, EL-P, Murs, Killer Mike, RTJ may not be platinum, but legendary and timeless for their art/goals of career over short term/Platinum sales, as KRS One always spoke too)

Only to discover from others that met him IRL that this is a pattern for him. I guess people aren't deserving of respect if they don't have a big social media following smh. I was obsessed with this man’s production from 97-2006. His earliest mainstream work to me was the most impressive and also sample based. He’d take one note splice it and manipulate it as an instrument. I’d thought I’d see this here. To watch this is just so sad. I’ve felt for a long time he’s lost what made him special. This just proves it. To barely chop the sample and use some generic kit that sounds like the majority of mainstream producers was so disappointing. They say never meet your heroes. I feel like with social media and his live streams I’ve seen the producer I loved no longer is the same guy

Timbaland is a legend, obviously, and I'm over the moon to see Rhythm Roulette back... but yeah this left me a little wanting. On top of seeming a little disinterested in the challenge, I think the main problem was the RECORD STORE they went to. Too upscale, too well-curated; a store that streamlined also upped his odds of landing on such a total "gimme" record to flip like Gil Scott-Heron. There was never gonna be any crouching and fighting to find the heat on a cast-off country music picture disc. (And yeah make them at least listen to all three; Future Islands or Jerry Garcia flip could have been wild.)
