Finnish hornet was the best display today for me, followed by the Flanker, then this. All 3 were quality displays. Shame about the no show Tornado in the flypast. Great day though.

I'm not saying DCS is realistic at all but I can get this effect when I fly slow and do a very quick bank to the left or right and do full pull on the stick in the F18. Is it one of the wings stalling? I was always curious why this happens.

I'm surprised he didn't delam the left stabilator. The trailing edge up deflection at 0:15 freeze frame is crazy. Flaperons have no roll and left stab is tasked with stopping the right roll AND follow pitch command. Yikes. I was trained B-Shop Flight Controls on F-16 back in '82 but only worked them a year at Edwards before moving on to other flight test programs. I'm guessing somebody's going to be answering some questions from his commander for that takeoff.

@@Zuloff Got it. So what's weird is I believe this same plane made an emergency landing during this or another demo flight during this event because of..a stab trailing edge delamination. Except it was the starboard one.

F16 has multiple variants spanning 50 years. The official name is fighting falcon. It’s affectionately called ‘Viper’ by crews due to its slight resemblance to the Viper off Battle star galactica.

Could have been intentional. A "nervous" or "aggressive" style. Another common practice to achieve this effect at takeoff is to do a stepped varying pedal input with appropriate roll compensation to keep the heading.

@@Tome4kkkk could have been. I attend riat every year, I'm going 2moro and in all the years iv been thats the twitchiest take off. To give him credit mind he's gone straight into a 9g turn off the bat. Looking forward to seeing his display 2moro, that's if I can beat the traffic and make it in for his 10am slot, if not I'm sure it will look decent from the car while I que haha

@@PotholesInMyLawn I definatley don't think it was intentional. I defo think he lost it a bit today. I was there today and it looks like he pushed the aircraft to far again. Less than 2 mins into the demo and he had to make an emergency landing after losing part of his aircraft

I was there today aswell and his take off was definitely alot smoother than this wasn't it. I think he was caught out yesterday. Maybe a little to much adrenaline being at riat haha was really looking forward to his display today but it could have ended worse so glad he got it down safely
