Bruno was/is a giant in that business and so is Flair. Ric has the right to say what he likes. Hes earned that right many times over but Madden is out of line. Respect due to Bruno. The NYC style of wrestling was not the NWA style of wrestling but they both did big pro wrestling business and i loved both; the AWA too. I agree with what Ric is saying from his point of view, only thing i would like to add to that is 1) Bruno took pride in being naturally tough and naturally strong; steriods to him was like a shortcut and he was against it being so prevalent in that business and he voice his concerns as the only guy who had the credibility to speak out 2) he was loyal to Vince Sr and was not the biggest fan of where Jr was taking it. Thank you Flair, Funks, Backlund,Valentine and Bruno.

By November 1993, WCW decided to once again base the promotion around Ric Flair. This was seen as more or less a necessity after prospective top babyface Sid Vicious was involved in an incident with Arn Anderson (which resulted in hospitalization of both men)[43] while on tour in England eight weeks before Starrcade and was fired. Flair then placed his career on the line against Big Van Vader for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship. Flair won the title at Starrcade and was once again made booker.[44] That did not stop WCW from suffering massive financial losses in 1993, however; a staggering $23 million.[41]

When Vince Jr. started screwing with him and they went at it on National TV, such as the Larry King Show and the Donahue Show, we were highly offended. neither Bruno's beliefs or Ric's is wrong here. Bruno was old school, and he never took steroids. he was one tough SOB. just ask Monsoon. the NWA, which i loved, was quite a bit different from the than WWWF. in it, that it ''rolled'' a bit differently. Bruno may not have been Dory Funk jr. but i would put my last dollar on Bruno out drawing and out fighting Dory. i was at MSG the night Bruno's neck was broken, i never seen a man fight like he did after he broke it. he was a Man's Man. the way he grew up, and what his family had to overcome, is a story in itself. Bruno just believed that wrestlers didn't need steroids and frowned upon any one who did, and after almost 12 years as champion, he deserved to speak his mind because he did it the hard way, he worked hard to get where he was. i respect everyone's beliefs as i do Ric's, who is a Living Legend in my eyes.

I can’t say anything about Bruno’s wrestling ability because I never actually saw him wrestle to my knowledge but I do remember him being on the opening of Georgia Championship Wrestling with Gordon Solie and of course Gordon introduced him with high praise. Bruno said he came down to watch the NWA because he said and I’m paraphrasing but he said you guys still wrestle referring to Vince McMahon turning the WWWF into a clown show. Back then the companies like the NWA weren’t so insecure they were afraid to name their competition by name such as the WWWF and the AWA. As far as wrestling like I said back then I couldn’t watch the WWWF and the AWA simply because I couldn’t get it and what little I did see of the WWWF I couldn’t stand it. To me the greatest world champions and I know it’s a work but they still had to know a little about wrestling but the greatest world championships were Lou Thez and Harley Race. Ric would have been in there but in the early eighties when he won his first world championship it’s like he forgot everything he knew about wrestling and got the daylights beat of him every match. Ole Anderson was right he wrestled the same boring match every time you saw him. One a side note l lost any respect I had for Jack and Jerry ( Gerald ) Brisco when they stabbed Ole Anderson in the back and lied to him and said they weren’t going with Vince McMahon and turned around and did after they gave Ole their word they wouldn’t. Regardless of what you think of Ole Anderson if your words no good you’re no good. Now the world championship is traded more than people change socks.

People loved Bruno ... but I never got the hype... nothing against him. I prefer Harley in that era... Flair and Hogan the kings of the 80’s💘... what’s amazing when you really think about it... when Hogan made the heel turn with the NwO ... You can really consider Hogan the Top Heel of the 90s... I mean obviously he wasn’t having the matches that the younger top baby faces were having but Hogan would have easily been the top heel in WWF if somehow he left WCW in say 98... it’s actually pretty badass... Also Flair... I mean he was World Champion beating Hollywood Hogan in 1999... if you look at the number of years both Hogan and Flair were top guys it’s wild.

The days of great matches with Brisco, Gagne, thez, funks, race, Bockwinkle, bruno are gone. Hogan, wrestling same match every night was garbage. Roman wrestling Handful of times a year and inching Closer to backlund and bruno, joke. I watched ric since his days in awa. Bruno was honest in his comments. I'm probably more of a Crockett/Mid-Atlantic fan. The McMahon territory was seen as the top territory and was indeed the biggest, but was it the best? While I LOVE the WWWF from the 70s and in to the 80s, if you look back at places like Carolina and Florida, what they were doing was dynamite! Also, while the AWA never really grabbed me as being an "exciting" territory, the talent they had and the matches they had were fantastic. Let's not forget that Mike LaBelle and Roy Shire did some great stuff in California too, and how could we forget Texas? That's the beauty of being able to go back and watch all this classic Wrestling these days, there is something I love from just about every territory!! :-)

Hey Flair what’s the problem with Bruno Sammartino telling the truth about the steroid era. All he said was that he hated it and it was killing wrestlers. Here is a guy who was once regarded as one of the strongest men in the world. Held the bench press record of 565 lbs. performed at York Bar Bell. Spent his entire life talking about good health and Ric Flair bad mouths him because he wants to save the lives of young wrestlers. You are a joke Flair. Madden you are worse than a joke.

Bruno went everywhere, Ric didn't wrestle in the North, Bruno went to Japan, Canada, Australia, Middle East, and not just the North East, which was the biggest territory, but the west coast as well. Nobody in NY, NJ, PA, Boston or Connecticut knew or cared about Rick. The North East had a bunch of great house like MSG, Philly Spectrum, Boston Garden, Meadowlands Arena. He went everywhere that Rick went, Ric was the regional champion if there was one.

Bruno was an interesting character, he really wasn’t an exciting wrestler, not in the vein of a Luthers Jack Briscoe Nick Bach we go over and ganja, and obviously all of those guys were pretty damn legit. Especially those who are still thinks the greatest of all time. But he was a big draw, he had a look people liked, and somehow his promos which I do think were a doll as well, true people in.
