It's because it's a Malletech. They think the wide bars are great, but they're hard to play on and sound dead.

Stop arguing, guys and stop cheating yourselves! It's time to understand that the very idea of using C2-B2 octave is the idiotic one. You can hear nothing but overtones which in this octave sound MUCH louder then fundamental tones no matter what kind of mallets are being used.

Malletech's and Yamahas are just Erics preferred instrument. It's what he loves playing on cause they sound great

nice playing, but the bottom of the marimba sounds like crap. Perhaps the resonators needed tuning or the bars were cracked...

Thomas Alexander. maybe just hard mallets? he spends more time up high so maybe it was best to soud more bright and more jarring up top than too yarny up top for seldom used bass notes.

nothing wrong with being critical or direct. Sammut's ability as a composer has nothing to do with the sound of this marimba in this video. I clearly said "nice playing" and then went on to criticize the instrument.

Is neither of both... Is the crappy malletech marimba... Eric have a fantastic touch, but the marimba is endorser by is really bad... In the other hand you can listen some real nice Adams Bogdan Bacanu Series and is very different becouse of the wood they use and the construction of course... (I think L.H. Stevens have not be able to find real nice decent wood for his marimbas)
