So I looked around online to see if any other women were doing other skate things and found the Bones video. And that started me off. I'm scrolling through comments and finding repeats on the exact same sentiment I have about skating and Estrojen. Though not original, here's my two cents: practiced roller derby for a couple of years, loved the practice of learning skills on skates, but I could never say my heart was "into" the sport of roller derby. Then I bailed on derby. Shortly after purchasing my first pair of Moxi's, the Bones video came out. That RENEWED my interest and subsequent LOVE of rolling on pavement! I still play the Bones video on occasion to pump myself up before heading out on a roll. It's meditative, healing, and healthy! I do it foremost for myself, but Estrojen gets ALL my heart and credit for the inspiration. 😍 I luff you Estro!

Kathy Cormier I want to try skateboarding also! I’m a roller skater first but for some reason skateboarding is calling my name. Seeing them in bowls looks like they are surfing concrete waves😍
@kathycormiersuntanningrebe78704 жыл бұрын
I am sure you heard skateboarding is like concrete surfing? I was born rollerskating, and then for a while-before the internet, they did not sell rollerskates anywhere I knew of, so if I wanted to keep skating, I had to rollerblade, and I really found little very difference when just standing up and rolling, but when it comes to tricks, it is a little difference at first. I was 14 years old when I bought my first skate board, and I was getting really good. One summer, all I did was outside on my rollerskates and skateboard. No internet, all I had to guide me was old library books i checked out at the library. It is fun. Like Estro says, "when you put wheels under your feet, the world transforms." It does it transforms into a big playground
@uniquetq47164 жыл бұрын
Kathy Cormier I haven’t actually heard that but it makes so much sense! I was mesmerized my first time at the skate park watching them in bowls. But that’s incredible that you are skilled at all three. I honestly desire to be skilled in skateboarding also in due time.

Roller skating is very interesting across both genders. As a male I've experienced the reverse judgment. I grew up in an era where boys weren't allowed to figure skate or quad skate without being judged. If a boy falls, they too are called derogatory names. I think most boys just learn to let it slide off their backs. I've heard other boys cursing like sailors, so I think boys in general are conditioned to not give a shit, when we're called derogatory names, which leads to toxic masculinity, until we find our mate in life, to set us straight. Just the other day, I've been getting the entire family into quad skating. Some juvenile delinquents rolled by on their bikes, and said, that looks gay, as if we even asked for their opinion. It kind of offended me. I saw my son just allow it to roll off his back. I was more pissed, because as a father, you want to protect your child from this bull shit. I also hear Pigeon, EstroJen, Rebel and shove saying, "are you skating for others, or are you skating for yourself?" And it allows me to not be as angry, and be proud that I'm raising my child to be a stronger person. So, it really does go both ways.

I like the idea if shameless skating. Im 15 and ive been skating for a year and a half after i got my own skates because i got inspired by roller derby, planet roller skate and moxi. Today i had a job interview at 5 and no way to go from school to home then to the interview so i empty out my back pack and only put the papers and books i need and my skates in my backpack. I skated from 2:30 to 6:00 today. I went to my job interview like that because i gave my shoes to my boyfriend to hold on to and we left them at his house on accident. I went to the grocery store and the post office and acted like i belonged because being on wheels flying through downtown and modestly but confident in a krogers on my skates feels right. It felt awkward at first going into a post office -a place that is so professional and public- on rollerskates but why should anyone else care about something i know is good for me. I love the freedom of my skates and the shamlessness of me being in public on wheels doung regular things that are done in foot.
