Think a rice cooker is just for making rice? Think again. This is no one trick pony. Tonight it's macaroni and cheese in the rice cooker. For a less creamy version use less cream/milk/sour cream.

Love the fact that this cleans up quickly and easly and does good with most things. Great for singles who don't want a ton leftover.....However if you have a multifunctional rice cooker, you can cook the mac and then, switch over to bake function to obtain a dryer and crispy crust on the mac which I love. Since getting my rice cooker (mini) and multifunction rice cooker, I seldom use other pans. Much Easier to use rice cookers.

This looks great! hey if it runny use one tablespoon cornstarch mixed with one tablespoon cold water. Be sure to thoroughly mix the water with the starch to prevent lumps. After stirring the combined starch and water into the liquid to be thickened, cook and stir over medium heat until thickened and bubbly. I cant wait to try it ! i got my rice cooker today!

Works great if you pay attention to instructions. kzbin.infoUgkxviiltW7NlHbp_VL_bLbIkbLAvILVhnia For those that complain about "mushy" or "wet" rice I suspect they are using the included cup to measure rice (which is really only 3/4 cup) and then putting in water using a separate measuring cup that is a full cup. This results in too much water and you will get mushy or wet rice and think it is not done. Just use the included cup for both rice and water, or your own measuring cup for rice and water according to your package directions. It will come out fine. I've used mine for years for brown and white rice. If your machine is bubbling white froth out of the steam vent then it means you should have rinsed your brand of rice first to remove some of the starch. Sheesh. Makes me wonder how people can cook well enough to feed themselves.

I just bought one of these.When you press down the cook button does it cook for a set amount of time, or is there a sensor internally ? The "Manual" that came with it doesn't say anything about how long it cooks. Thanks for the videos.

josh viking sits not a set time. As the liquid evaporates the button under the bowl raises and turn the machine off at a certain point. I always check my food during cooking the first time I make something new so that I know what time to stop it the next time.

When making mac n cheese, have you had much 'frothiness' on the inside of the lid? I haven't tried the sour cream, but will. I use half&half and chicken broth. I have also only used elbow pasta, but I have many others. Thank you again for your videos.
@ThirdStreetKitchen9 жыл бұрын
J Swain You are so welcome! Not a froth problem for me. A touch of sour cream or cream cheese just makes it creamy. Yum! For a little tang you can also add a small bit of mustard or mustard powder.
@jonaozo5409 жыл бұрын
Third Street Kitchen I think I used too much liquid the time it frothed all over the inside of the lid. It took a bit of cleanup, but it still is easy since the lid liner is removable.It was still delicious.
@jonaozo5409 жыл бұрын
J Swain I think mine cooks a bit hotter than yours. I copied your video above as exact as possible, still had some froth on the inner lid, and the noodles are pretty dry. Cooked fine, noodles are tender, but not liquid and not creamy like yours. I may try a 1/4 cup less noodles [?]. I do have a second cooker, so soon I will unbox it and compare the two.This one has made several pots of rice that was great, and this was my third attempt at mac n cheese.....elbow [twice] and rotini pasta. The froth on the inner lid is surely from the intense bubbling, and it sticks like glue.
@jonaozo5409 жыл бұрын
J Swain I am going to use a little oil in the recipe to see if it combats the foam/froth......
@ThirdStreetKitchen9 жыл бұрын
J Swain I give you credit for trying so hard! Good luck!

When noodles are boiled , starch is released into the water and poured down the drain when the noodles are poured into a collander . Where does the nasty starch go in this recipe ?
@ThirdStreetKitchen7 жыл бұрын
ajs01331 Hmmm, maybe it depends on noodle brand but my noodle water has little discoloration in it when I pour out the water. I get a foamy surface when boiling but taken off the heat the water isn't that bad. But I'm not discounting you comment. If you like use those 'no boil, no drain' noodles they make now. They are made just for this type of thing. That should work perfect for you. Let us know how it goes! Enjoy!
@M.Happie6 жыл бұрын
The starch off of noodles isn't a bad thing. The starch is literally the ingredients in the pasta leaching out into the water (ex. Flour). Alot of cooks will use that water to thicken stews or sauces.
