Rice Paper: Gelprinting & Collage

In today’s Livestream I did some Gelprinting on Rice Paper using techniques inspired by ‪@RobynMcClendon‬ and ‪@ElizabethStHilaire‬ (I will link the videos below). Thank you to ‪@PMartistStudio‬ Patricia for introducing me to ‪@YasutomoArtOrigami‬ channel who have a lot of information about using rice papers as well. I tried to channel my inner Dede Willingham to make a ‪@inkiwell‬ style collaged world for my #gelypostcardplay for day 17 (challenge hosted by ‪@CeriGriffiths‬
*UPDATE: Near the end I definitely understand better why the paint needs to be very watery (and highly pigmented) when you are painting the back of the papers. It really needs to soak into all the fibres so get that bright color on the torn edges. If you are not needing really small pieces to collage I think an alternative may be to do you gelliprinting, then rip your paper, then turn over and paint the edge with your contrasting color. Perhaps I will try that another time.

I finished watching this while drinking my morning coffee. It looks awesome. I’ll have to see if those sticker books are available in Australia. If you’re not good with splatters, you can do the dots with a small dotting tool. It can also be used for stars and comets. I do Sume e art and have a ton of rice paper, so I can’t wait to try this. It will give me a chance to test out my Yamato rice paste glue. Thank you for sharing this 🫶🇦🇺🦘
