That's a very sad thing too. Imagine that you are a scientist that truely wants to further science, and you really believe studying abiogenesis is a worthwhile endevour. Now imagine that you need funds to do your research, if you want funding you need to promise results, even if you know you will not achieve them. There are people in the origin of life field who are trying to build things in the lab, and there are people in THE origin of life field who are trying to show how it happened 4 billion years ago. It's a subtle difference between origin of life and THE origin of life. One deals with synthetic life, and the other deals with the actual ways it could have happened. For example, building a cell in the lab would be fantastic for OoL researchers, but it wouldn't validate abiogenesis.

Consider the process that takes place when sperm meets egg. Initially they are essentially dormant...until they meet. Then an amazing process takes place. The cell immediately starts to divide. After several rounds of cellular division, some cells KNOW to start turning into various tissues and organs. Think of the sheer volume of information needed to direct this orchestra of life. Some cells turn into the skeletal system, some into the digestive system, nervous system, circulatory system, respiratory system, muscular system, etc, etc. It's an amazing thing. All of the previous does no good UNLESS it also has the spark of life within it. This WHOLE process is guided by INFORMATION. There is no way unguided chaos is going to ever produce this kind of complex, cohesive, integrated, INFORMATION driven system. This goes to the whole idea of irreducible complexity. You have to have most, if not all, of the needed elements AT ONCE. You can't just incrementally assemble this stuff, it's never gonna happen, it's just too integrated and codependent on the other elements. THAT is WHY it's called a SYSTEM.

I like your challenge mentality but this challenge needs to be done in an even more formal manner. So, let me get this straight: To build a jet airliner, you need expert engineers in aeronautics, mechanics, materials, metallurgy, electronics, computers... plus, plus, plus. (these people are NOT of average intelligence or skill or ability. If they were, and if the world is not logical as it is clearly is, then no airplane could be built. BUT this WHOLE Universe - NOTHING made it?

If you simulate a (putative) early Earth atmosphere in a lab, with a glow discharge, you essentially cannot avoid making ‘the building blocks of the building blocks’. Urey demonstrated this, convincingly, decades ago. [Glow discharges happen naturally, associated with such things as lightning.] It turns out that if you have the right atomic components, and you add enough energy, you will produce copious amounts of a huge variety of organic molecules. Anybody doing glow discharge early Earth atmosphere experiments will have produced the building blocks of the building blocks, that you mention. Cheers.

You do realize that what Miller and Urey got was not under prebiotic conditions at all as it didn't actually simulate early earth conditions as we understand them, right? Also, the compounds made were both left and right-handed, meaning they were equal parts, and they were bound to each other, which is known as racemization. Where in life do you see compounds from both right and left used? Can you demonstrate any such compounds being used in biochemistry apart from already existing enzymes separating them and rebuilding them to match modern biocomponents? If you cannot, then you clearly don't know what this commenter meant by the building blocks of the building blocks. Ribose alone has not been produced prebiotically, and you need countless amounts of that to even attempt building RNA. Seems to me that acknowledging that life started when a creator created it is a viable hypothesis. Using inference to a (most) likely cause is what we do in every case where we infer causation about a past phenomenon we didn’t witness (crime for instance). We have enough evidence to point to a creator that we should infer the acts of a creator. It should at least be as valid as the rest of the scientific mess we currently hold as fact that is in fact clear fantasy. The fact that we rebel against a creator should in itself affirm it.
