I'm a lifelong Rams fan who has a typical hate on for a rival team like the Niners. Having said that i have a hard time hating most of the players that make up that team as they're mostly very likeable (except when they beat us). Purdy is a stud that deserves all the praise and respect he deserves. He's a great story and i think he's going to have a great career as QB1 in San Fran. Not only is Shannahan a great coach, he puts together a great offensive and defensive coaching staff. And they have a better than good eye for talent, yet with their share of duds. And still, Not only is his scheme perfect for Purdy and the other playmakers to succeed. Purdy and the other playmakers are perfect for Shannahan to make his good scheme great. Not just anybody can do that.. which has been evident. Purdy and McCaffrey are the important pieces that Shannahan has been searching for, and needing to finally complement all those other pieces. All these playmakers won't be here forever and more pieces will always be needed do to attrition, but the 49ers are in a prime position to succeed this season and seasons to come.

Coach Shanahan Coaching style reminds me of the late coach: Bill Walsh! Now do remember that his dad was an assistant under Bill Walsh, so do consider that coach Bill Walsh had a mentorship program for his assistant and his concepts of coaching has spread throughout the(NFL). So it's easy to see the (west coast offense) that Coach Shanahan is employing, is a direct reflection of coach Walsh. Also Both of the Shanahan's ( both father & son), were head coach & son assistant coach while at Denver). This where the son was taught the principles of the back then (West coast offence). So in retrospect: the offense that's employed by the younger Shanahan descends from the late Bill Walsh; it was labeled at that time as the west coast offense. Just a little history lesson 4 all you youngster's.

Brock Purdy is the most Mr. Irrelevant ever, if you actually listen to what the idea behind that term is. It's not the player that's irrelevant, it's where he was picked that's irrelevant. They wanted to celebrate that fact that you were picked, just like the first overall pick is celebrated. So if anyone proves it doesn't matter if you were picked last, it matters that you get a chance to earn that spot, it's Brock. They don't need to change that term, they just need to use Purdy to make it clear what it is they're actually celebrating. You were picked by a team. I think CMC is the frontrunner, but I'm a bit skeptical because of how RBs are being valued and talked about by upper NFL management. Purdy actually seems to be better in some areas this yr than he ws last yr. As good as Shanahan's scheme is, it cannot make a bad or even average QB put up MVP level efficiency metrics. JimmyG is a good average NFL QB but he never played at this level. Yes, the addition of McCaffrey is HUGE..but Purdy is still the QB and the main reason this offense is like this..the 5 games Jimmy and CMC played the 49ers avg 27 pts a game..with Purdy...they jumped up to 31 ppg. He's CLEARLY added something here. You cannot stack the box to stop Mccaffrey coz Purdy is making you pay deeper downfield( He's completed 70% of his passes over 10 yrds, 40% of his passes over 30 yrds). As a result, CMC is also a great checkdown option for Purdy when he gets pressured. This is the perfect recipe for KS. This offense reminds me of the Greatest show on turf..They have an answer to most coverages and situations..the young QB is playing at an elite level with a great playcaller, the best RB in the league and 3 1k level pass catchers. Shanahan is in dreamland right now. Both McCaffrey and Purdy CAN be in the MVP convo if they stay healthy and keep producing at this level..which is insane. What annoys me abt NFL media is how contradictory they are? They claim RBs are not valuable ( which is false) and that QBs are the be it end all...then they turn around and discredit Purdy for being great in a system that suits him and try to give CMC all the credit..Like, decide where you fall

If Brock Purdy gets a consistent 40+ yard deep ball (and it looked pretty good last game!) he'll be a top-5 QB, even if he doesn't get credit for it right away. The stigma of where he was drafted is actually getting ridiculous.

The problem with Jimmy G is that he's (too) willing to fit the ball into a very tight window, or triple coverage. That's why he gets intercepted a lot. Whether that's on him (his read), or his play (taking risks), the result is what it is. With Purdy you can clearly see Shanahan's game plan. First game vs PIT, it's Aiyuk. Second game vs LAR, it's CMC ground game. Third game, it's Samuel. Fourth game, it's back to Aiyuk and CMC ground game, swing passes. It's like you can tell that's exactly how Shanahan drew it up.

More than one thing can be true at once. Yes, Brock is in a great system with incredible players. But as a lifetime Niners fan I’ve seen QBs like Alex Smith, Garcia, Kappernick, Jimmy G screw up when they needed to step up. All those guys were good, but Brock is different. I watch him see the game slowed down and make good decisions for the most part. It’s too soon to crown anyone anything, but I like our odds with Purdy.

@@byronsmith3152 - It's actually getting a bit silly - I liked him too, but Jimmy G threw an interception for every two TDs with the Niners, a fact I think all Niners fans are very familiar with haha. I liked Lance too but he had trouble pulling the trigger. Brock Purdy has thrown 4 interceptions *in his entire career so far*. I mean... what the hell man? At some point the kid needs to be judged on results... which so far are just short of spectacular.

Rich Eisen is old enough to remember that Tom Brady was considered a system QB carried by his defense AFTER winning 3 Super Bowls and was never considered an elite QB till he won the MVP in 2007 setting a touchdown passing record with 50 TDs.
