for decades the illegal sports gambling industry made millions (probably billions) by using the nba's product and the nba got absolutely nothing. now it is a legal and regulated industry in most states, why is it wrong for the nba to get some money? people are betting on nba games, the nba definitely definitely deserves some of the profits generated by these sports books

@carrite for real.. I wonder if they gave ppl their money back if they had taken his over for those games, since they didn’t give them the winnings. I had a parlay for +1200 odds where only leg that lost was Temple +7.5 over UAB and they lost badly but reports are that that was the 5th game this year of suspicious betting behavior (it started out as +1.5 and went to 7.5 over night) if it comes out that they were tanking on purpose wonder if they’ll subtract that from my original parlay as a push and give me the 3 pick win at like +550 (probably not though they’ll just tell me sucks to suck )

@@terrenceboone5206exactly. No one understands how wiring money works. It requires 2 factor authentication. One of which is a token. This would mean the interpreter would not only have Ohtani's bank password, but his phone, his phone password, and his biometric to unlock the token each time. Also, all wires go through OFAC. With the frequency of these the bank would have called the phone number on file, not the interpreter. Finally Ohtani has a lot of money going in and out of his account and has complex taxes. He has a bookeeper who settles the books at the end of the month. Any unauthorized transactions would have been noticed by a bookeeper. ... serious question. Was there a Fanduel on the severity of Porter's punishment? Fanduel and these sites boast being able to gamble about anything, so why not? This is a huge loss for that guy, but he's not the first or last to throw it all away. What's bigger is that I don't just blame him. The league seems to support the gambling in general. And the LEAGUE mandates refs to dictate the flow of games by how they make calls. Let's face it, it's not about the actual sport it's just about the 'entertainment'. You have officials with awful egos that have vendettas against players, and you have officials that gamble themselves. You can apparently gamble on stuff like even shot attempts I think? Forget about Porter - he's just the guy that got CAUGHT. So whatever, man. He's the example. Have to be smarter and easier to make an example out of a guy like that vs. if (not saying he does) say a Edwards or Halliburton were caught.

This is the future. Gambling addiction is going to increase. The ban will not stop this from happening again. Predictable behavior but these leagues will claim ignorance. We didn’t know this would happen 😂😂😂😂

This guy didn't have a lapse in judgement. He purposefully performed these acts to help cover spreads multiple times. What Calvin Ridley did when he was depressed and at home with no team contact was a judgement lapse. This is not even in the same league as that.

I feel very VERY confident that Rich is completely wrong when thinking every athlete who gambled is gonna get caught. That's extremely naive, and completely contradicts how crime actually works. Typically most crimes like this are not caught. And thinking any computer program is good enough to spot everyone is also just ridiculous tbh.

Everything nowadays is framed as social ill or societal harm, ɓut this should be ecgnized as the personal failings of a foolish young man, privileged by Nature to live a life most of us could only dream of, throwing it all away because of the choices he made. When gsmbling was illegal and shunned as an industry these sorts of actions would be much less visible and pusued less vigorously., and the bookmakers would not be incentivized to study these discrepancies, beyond their own book's balance.

He can play in Europe and make money there if he wants to. I am a Raptors fan and he was not an NBA player. He lost his chance to make money in the G league though. The man shot his shot. I find it hilarious that he did not think there would be massive red flags though.

He's not going to be playing anywhere. Nobody will touch this guy. He can't be trusted, that he won't do this to whatever team if given another chance. Also he's most likely going to be indicted by the Federal Government for Conspiracy to Commit Fraud. This is a big deal, it's a felony. A kin to Insider trading. Federal Offense.
