Pickett is a young immature backup that in 2 years could be a plus starter in the NFL. Russell Wilson is one of the 25 greatest to ever play his position in NFL history. He's also lived a decade more on this earth than Kenny. Keep Kenny bc he's worth more than the 3rd or 4th round pick a team will be willing to give right now... even as a QB2. That's exactly what KP8 needs to be around. Develop his game behind Russ and then give him a shot if Russ goes down. End of story. This was a no brainer signing and KP8 will be better in the long run for it as long as he doesn't get his feelings hurt or is impatient and recognizes the value or learning for a few seasons behind Russ... If he wants to walk bc we win a SB this year and sign Russ long term so beit but as of 2024 KP8 learning behind a human like Russell Wilson can only help him for the rest of his time in the league. As for Russ and Queen - they are by far and away the best FA signings for the Steelers since HOF Kevin Greene. PS. Vegas odds on the Steelers I'd bet on Russ, a top 10 run game and top 5 defense. Last season, Matt Canada was a huge negative in which any young QB would struggle to perform under in a division like the AFC north. Remember...once they fired Canada, Kenny played a total of 6 quarters under a makeshift OC duo (QB coach + RB coach) and performed MUCH better before suffering his injury...I watched every game live. That game and a half Kenny played you could FEEL how much better the offense was moving the ball and the momentum they had. It simply continued once Mason stepped in after Kenny got hurt. Mason scored more, yes, but he was also a seasoned veteran...not a QB in his 2nd year. I don't blame Tomlin for sticking with the hot hand to end the season, but I think their is some bias against Kenny going on with people just parrotting what they hear in social media and the podcast circles. I'm not saying he is better than Wilson, presently, but I suspect once Russ gets hurt and Kenny steps in he might surprise people. At the very least, he has a chance to be a valuable QB2, and that's more than you can say for the rest of that QB class he was drafted from. And before you claim it was too high of a pick for a QB2...Brock Purdy is a great QB (last player drafted)...but the fails in any number of 1st or 2nd pick QB busts that have happened of the years...scouting QB's is not an exact science. Go back down the rabbit hole at some draft rankings of some QB's over the last 10 years, or longer, and count the hits and misses...and how many "experts" got it wrong on then.

I've been a fan of the Steelers since I were a child, and I've never been as livid with their handling of this team as I've been the last 5 seasons. Their handling of Pickett is certainly the most aggregious of all. They had too many inconsistencies to be successful. And that was before Pickett was drafted. They knew that Canada was a gamble, and they tried to force it, instead of calling it for what it was. Matt Canada should've been fired after the 2021 season was over, and I personally believe that he should've been dismissed after the Bye week of 2021. Keeping him around was a stunning display of ego and incompetence, in my opinion. The play of the O-line was inconsistent for the last 4 seasons, as well. Cheaping out at Left tackle has had it's effect over time. The build up of talent behind said O-line was severly lacking, considering the starters ages and the injuries those guys incurred. Your average playoff team won't lose 3 Pro Bowl caliber OLs and assume they can be replaced on a whim. But that's exactly what happened after the 2020 season, when Al Villenueva, David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey retired or left the team in the same off-season. And somebody needs to inform this team that the drop off from Jeff Hartings and Maurkice Pouncey to Kendrick Green and Mason Cole was pretty damn steep. If you're a team that desires to run the football, your point man have better be a badass stud. No team in league history knows that better than Pittsburgh. With all the talk about the 'Steeler Way', this situation at Center has been one of the most hypocritical of them all. I grew up thinking only very special players played Center for the Steelers, not the type of players we've seen as of late. You see, in Pittsburgh, the heart and soul of the offense is the Center, not the QB. From Ray Mansfield to Maurkice Pouncey, the Steelers offense was geared for one thing in particular, steam roll the opposition and leave no doubts about that goal having been accomplished or not. These men were the point of emphasis for the term coined 'Bully Ball'. They weren't going to 'Bully' anyone with Kendrick Green and Mason Cole. If this were a fever pitched pipedream, they might make the playoffs. Now, this subject was supposed to be about Kenny's future. But if you're basing your opinion on how Kenny has faired behind this O-line and dealt with Matt Canada, I'd say he has done about as well as expected. It's not just about the QB in question, but the foundation and structure around the QB. Just take a look at Brock Purdy for an example. From what we've seen, it's not out of the question to assume that the Steelers' sizable ego had consumed those in charge, probably figuring they could fake it til they made it. But the game of football is perhaps the most based sport of them all. Football will find a way to expose you as a fraud. Fans included. I believe that Kenny will triumph in this situation. I don't consider Russell Wilson QB1 here in Pittsburgh, with all things being equal. Reason being, Russell didn't have Matt Canada hindering his success, nor did he have a huge question mark as his Center. I expect Kenny to overcome the tide of criticisms he received this past season, and be ready to lead this Steelers team into the playoffs.

Yeah the bottom line is that he just was not good enough and I think a Steeler fans we were hoping he has something special that would become a parent through giving him an opportunity to shine. Nothing really to say. He failed to live up to what he was drafted to be by leaps and bounds. Externalities notwithstanding, his play was extremely tepid. Now he has to try and save his NFL career. Tough business, but that's the way it goes.
