No fucking shot a court would ever side against a person who recorded their parents abuse when they were a minor. If op was an adult when he made those recordings and they lived in a state where that was illegal. They might have a point. But it is absolutely legally defensible that a child who is at the mercy of their parents has every right to record them especially if they're committing crimes towards said child.
