Great video! I also fell apart at about mile 21 and had to walk/run back - that long road killed me and the heat was tough. Your film brought back all the highs and lows of the day! Thanks

Well done Rich (and Dale)! I did a marathon earlier this year with having had to stop then reduce mileage and you just cant cheat it, my low point was 35-36km that was a real struggle. I'm hoping my next one feels a bit easier. Great bling!

Well done Rich! Mine went about as badly as expected - fine for the first 16 miles but then started struggling and at about mile 18 the wheels fell off and I had to walk about half of the last 8 miles. Ended up finishing in 5:14:10. Similar situation to my last long run - cardio was fine (HR was firmly in zone 3 except for those bloody hills) but my legs just couldn't take the distance. Got my medal and ticked it off the bucket list though so I'm tentatively happy. And finished injury free if you don't count sunburn.

Hi Rich! All things considered, 4:10 is not bad at all. I’ve heard some say that finishing a marathon undertrained can be just as impressive as a pb with proper training, it’s just more painful. On my end, my knee held up all the way through with no problems, and with semi-planned walking breaks all the way through finished in 5 hours 6 minutes. Everything below my hips felt like it had been ran over by a lorry. Also, that one long residential street from 30k onwards was bloody horrible, thought it was endless

Thank you so much! Yes now I've had a couple of days away from it I really do think that was a great time, and actually I was walking about completely normally yesterday, so I can't be in too bad shape. Very very well done to you! So pleased your knee held up, and I hope you're glad you managed it! Yes, I'm sure the passage of time altered significantly after 30K on that race! Well done again

Well done Rich, the heat and the wind made it that much tougher. I ended up adjusting my plan and running to heart rate rather than pace. Finished in 3:45 which I was chuffed with but I think could have been a bit quicker on a cold day. Much more importantly, though, my friends who I was running it with make a fleeting appearance at 11:14 and will no doubt be delighted to be minor characters in the Rich Keeble Cinematic Universe.

Hi Rich, loved the video, and a great effort to get round in 4:10 with your limited training. I was doing my first marathon and got round in a net 4:18 taking into consideration an enforced pit-stop, and I also ground to a virtual stop in Hove after 20 miles. A bonus was seeing myself wobbling around near you at 9:39 and 16:45. I spent the last few km saying “I just want this to be over” and Sunday evening planning my second marathon. Cheers, Tim

Well done Rich! I did look out for you on the day to tell you "I was a big fan of Dales and your wife is Hot" but I didnt see you. That is a great result. Well done to you and Dale. It was really hot and there was a lot of people walking and spilling over and needing medics especially late on. Well done to the volunteers who kept the water going even under such extreme demand. The support was incredible too! That Black guy with the glasses at 17:34 was amazing and really pepped me up when I clearly was a broken man. It was also good to see Norman Cook (Fat Boy Slim) at the lagoon as he listed my spirits enough to put on a sprint waddle for the last 2km. I did the first 15km in 1hr 34m which was bang on form but blisters on both feet and hip flexer issues meant my second half was woeful. 4hr 59m 20s but three hours in to the race I would have bitten your arm off for a sub 5 hour time. Treated myself to Fish & Chips at Bankers Fish & Chip Restaurant. Incredible food. Then waddled back to my car and drove home. I have got a week at home to recover before I head out to Ibiza for the Ibiza Media Maraton (Half Marathon) on 20th April.

Congratulations, Rich - amazing time, never mind the relative lack of training, especially considering how many people seemed to want to cross the road in front of you in the first few miles!! I crashed and burned at Brighton marathon in 2021 (the year they accidentally turned it into an ultra marathon), and also detested the Church Road slog. All the best for your next challenge!

Thanks so much Matthew! I know there was a period of loads of people crossing all together, probably realising I was running slow enough for them to get away with it! I was looking all over for you, but didn't see you - was hoping to get a 'double Rich' selfie - inspired by your last Brighton M, I ironed my name onto the shirt, but i couldn't fit Richard, so was also Rich for the day. Best thing I ever did, got so much support from the crowd. Alas, that didn't prevent an implosion at 32km - wobbling nauseous mess - but got it done in a very pleasing 4:24. Good learning-curve - i now understand why they say its a 10km run with a 32km warm-up.

Well done! U was very stong and fight to finish the race! Sometimes the race not go how to plan , but never give up and finish the race are better then DNF! And all those who say if u walk in a race dont know what they talking about! I was pro runner 20 years ago and I walk in 3 race when I hit the wall hard but I still was a pro runner 😊 from my experiences u should start this race in 6:00-6.10min/km pace u had go stronger in the end and never hit the wall and I think u had run all the way to finish this eace strong! Keep going on! I know u gona run sub 3.10 .. u are a strong runner and have strong head! ❤💪💪
@TheRichKeeble
@TheRichKeeble 8 ай бұрын
thanks mate - I appreciate that! Yeah in hindsight maybe I should've started slower, but I feel I would have struggled after a point anyway due to the lack of training. I knew this one would be hard... but still nothing prepares you! When I did Manchester last year with a good training block I didn't hit the wall or have to stop at all, so it just depends eh. I think the reason I mentioned the walking thing is that a friend of mine said something to me a few weeks about how you shouldn't walk, and someone said something to Dale as well... and I do strongly disagree with that - you're finishing the distance and that's all that matters! Thanks again

Glad you managed to get your bag out of the barrier 😂, I was that “fan” that saw you at the station. 👋 It was really tough out there and I had some similar struggles towards the end, but a great effort and a very respectable time, especially after that tap incident! 👏

Yep, conditions were hard, but it was well organised and had a great atmosphere. I found I couldn't get my breathing into a rhythm with the wind and really struggled on the last 8 miles. Well done on finishing it, especially as you missed much of your training 👏 Think I'll do Manchester or Newport next year if I don't get in the London ballot.

Nothing wrong with walking in a marathon at ALL. I actually did a planned run walk strategy from the very start of Manchester last year. Walked over 3km total. 3:35. Still by far the fastest marathon I’ve done
@TheRichKeeble
@TheRichKeeble 8 ай бұрын
I think there's a lot of people who walk for a bit at water stations just to get the HR down. 3:35 sounds very quick for all that walking! Very impressive! Thanks again for watching Conrad!

Awesome well done mate. That course looks hard to me. Windy and mentally just tiring having to go back and forth in it.

Thanks mate! Yeah some real steep bits to be honest. I do like the route overall though, and it's better than it was in 2022 when we had to go through this tedious industrial bit. The crowds were great! I would defo try Manchester again though at some point... speaking of which, hope you're looking forward to that!

Thanks Chris. Obviously now very glad I didn't sack it off, and despite never wanting to run again after finishing that, a few days later being able to walk completely normally again I'm already thinking... what could I achieve at another one with some actual training...

As i've told many a runner before, and will continue to do so again, they key to a successful marathon is 5 teabags. Not 4. Only yourself to blame on this one.

Sub 4 marathons is amazing. How long have you been running for. My goal is to complete a marathon in sub 4 I don't care if its 3.59.59. I have ran 1 half marathon in a time of 1 hour 46.
@TheRichKeeble
@TheRichKeeble 8 ай бұрын
Thanks Kevin! That's a very decent half marathon time so surely a sub 4 full is within your grasp. I started running March 2020, seemed to make some quick progress, but was very inconsistent until I started training for my first marathon in December 2021. I imagine I must have some lucky genetics or something because I've never done very high mileage in training.

Cool event. I'd love to see how much profit the organizers make from each event after paying for the water and the souvenir tee-shirts, the kilometer markers and permits. Surely they donate most of it to Ukraine?
